I'm pretty sure someone made a post about this already but if you are getting 5 man hard CC'd the shield is useless because they're not hitting you. Also I think most of the time when that Malphite dives into your team and you see the enemy running behind him you're not thinking "OSHT WE GOTTA KILL THIS MALPHITE RIGHT AWAY" and start putting all your damages on him. I don't think the mastery is that OP, it's great, maybe will be a bit tedious to deal with, but not super over powered.

Disclaimer: Of course I haven't even seen it yet so I'm not sure but I imagine those huge 5 man stuns won't be that great for COTC

Usually the front line who's aim is to deal with the other front line have damage that will be going into that Malphite, Zac, or whatever Tank is charging in that CotC looks to reduce. Also, most CCs dont last longer than 4 seconds and there is only a few CC chains on one champion that possibly go longer than 4 seconds.

I think you got 1-2 seconds of CC that means you have a shield for 1-3 seconds left and I think the shield won't be that useful in those situations unless you're in a 1v1 scrap, people can hold onto their spells

Any hard CCs, so Alistar's Q or Thresh's E work well to maximize the shield in fights

Yeah I think so too, they will have more ability to survive but at the same time you're making a concious choice of not taking Bond of Stone, I think that's a good thing though cause it adds diversity in masterys. Also Alistar and Thresh don't have much threat level, yeah they can do a bunch of damage but if Thresh or Alistar manages to get into the middle of my team I think I won't be trying to focus him unless he's the only target.
