Janna gets a slap on the wrist while all the other enchanters get fucking bodied

riots favourite is janna, im not surprised

The others also have a lot more going for them. (>_>)

Sire Hippington50 votes

Don't forget that janna has her AD-buff tied to the shield beeing on, so less livetime on the shield(and a decay usually leads to a much lower lifetime on the shield) is less uptime of that buff aswell. The others have the duration of the aditional effects seperate from the shield.

Hong Kong Annie1 votes

Lulu gives her passive to allies with the shield, but hers is still drastically reduced.

Ariel the Cruel12 votes

Pix stays with allies after the shield breaks. Janna's buff is only applied while the shield is intact.

Hong Kong Annie1 votes

Only for the duration of the shield though, which is now 2.5 seconds.

Terozu6 votes

No, the pix buff stays after the shield ends.

LordGeovanni1 votes

I think he was referring to the attack speed portion. But i dont believe that the attack speed portion is tied to the shield uptime but rather it was activated the same duration as the shields uptime. The shields uptime is being nerfed but i dont see anything on the attack speed buff uptime

My Waifu Vanilla4 votes

Her attack speed buff is a different ability.......its her W.

Glasss of Water7 votes

Yeah but the rest are also not reliant on their shield to be a factor. As great as Janna’s knockup and slow are, she’s pretty much a shield bot. She needs a rework not a nerf.

Weiss Guertena29 votes

Out of those, Janna's shield is the only one which loses its associated buffs when broken. When Karma's shield is broken, target still has a MS buff. When Lulu's and Orianna's shields are broken, their companions stay on the target for the full duration.

Janna's is still nerfed, tho in a different manner; instead of lasting shorter it's easier to break. And arguably it's a harder nerf that way. But since Janna is apparently Satan incarnate and anything short of straight out deleting her from the game is "a slap on the wrist" according to the community that might fly over people's heads.

To be fair janna IS her shield.

They nerf it. They nerf janna in her entirety.

Where as lulu brings alot more than just her shield to the table.

Yea, Lulu's shield isnt even the primary reason you play her.

Up you go!

big boi edri4 votes

It's probably because janna has the buff tied to her shield

The Yetii Rider7 votes

Janna is different because Janna's Eye of the Storm gives her target Attack Damage for the duration.

If you cut Eye of the Storm's duration, Janna does not provide enough damage to her team even when she is played well.

GayFluffyUnicorn1 votes

If at all the AD buff needs to be removed completely. On the fact alone it goes against every of riots "philosophies" especially the one about invisible power. No fuckin joke until last season (i play since season 1) i didn't even know janna shield gives a bf sword worth of AD.

It Hertz When IP7 votes

It isn't invisible. There's an expectation that you, the player, will bother to do some research on how other champions work. For the entire time that Janna's allies have an AD buff, there's a white shield hovering around them. That's not "invisible power", that's buffing an ally. Might as well complain that Ori's ball gives defensive stats, or that Lulu's pixie adds on-hit damage. I'm honestly not sure how you made it this far without even reading the ability descriptions of one of the oldest and simplest champions in the game, but I'd suggest budgeting some time to sit down and do so for at least the most popular picks.

Then you have me, the guy who goes AD janna top.

Oh my god. Real talk if these nerfs have the desired effect We will probably see some assassin nerfs too and a nice dent in this powerflood we have been having. Win-Win.

Jesus, they're nerfing Karma when she's already basically a worse Sona.

Automated Riven13 votes

I imagine that they are simply fixing the problem with shields being too good and hopefully will adjust the power after.

Jesus, they're nerfing Karma when she's already basically a worse Sona.

True but if they nerf her shielding then they can put power into the rest of her kit making her midlane viable again. I know it's a trade off but it's a potentially good one :)

Skeletons Grave3 votes

sona doesnt get played in the mid lane on a regular basis. Karma is the go to safe mid lane support. Great wave clear, poke and has kill pressure against immobile champs.

jocomotion20 votes

Well deserved Janna Ok I guess Lulu I mean she actually needs a buff, but at least she’s not too shield reliant Orianna What in the actual fuck. Not even a compensation buff Karma

SociopathFriend18 votes

item 3156 Magic shield duration increased to 5 seconds from 3.

Oh geez WHY? The item is cancerous enough against anyone who can rush it into an AP match-up. It doesn't need a longer shield to make the slugfest even harder to win. They already get lifesteal and spellvamp so long as they're fighting literally anything.

3215025 votes

Because hexdrinker is 5 seconds long and you lose duration by upgrading

Azadethe17 votes

erm ..... last patch they took away its scaling..... it's a flat 350 damage shield now. Not 300+ 100% of mag resist. So it no longer scales up to 500-550 shields.....

The Bearded Bard10 votes

I don't think Orianna should be lumped in with the rest of them. She's a mid lane mage, not a bot lane support.

PrinceOfStorms7 votes

And she's really irritating to play against, just like Janna and Lulu, though I would have been satisfied with a huge increase to the mana cost on Command: Protect.

Azadethe2 votes

Her shield isn't why she's irritating to play against, and is almost never used on allies. Ball is usually used offensively to harass enemies and keep them at a range.

What makes her irritating is the fact she gains insane AP > Auto attack conversion and has a 1 skill ult. Her shield basically behaves like Viktor's.... who is FAR stronger with it.

Z3Sleeper11 votes

The only reason the autos are a problem though is because of the shield that makes it safe to walk up and auto for free.

Chicken or the egg my dude.

Azadethe2 votes

But without the shield, she can't even exist or use half her kit.

Z3Sleeper9 votes

It's not gone, it's just not up for 4 seconds.

It's still usable, after all it doesn't take enemies 4 seconds to pop the shield even in laning phase, it just means she has to time it now.

Also the ball remains attached to someone after the shield duration is over anyway if that's what you were referring to.

Daddy Ants4 votes

My question is as follows

Why are the others getting flat duration reductions but Janna escapes with "decaying" over it's full duration.

Can you stop showing preferential treatment to Janna please, Riot?

{quoted}

As I doubt riot's actually touching any of the damage numbers afterwards, the damage creep of this game continues stronger than ever.

Seriously, if you plan to make nerfs this big to the class that essentially holds Zed, Talon etc. back from being perma-banned, you might wanna touch some of the offensive runes while at it, too.

As much I think these changes need to happen.

I totally agree with the Zed and Talon comment.

I can see them being perm banned.

Rhai19 votes

Probably due to the ad Jannas E gives as long as the shield remains

Weiss Guertena9 votes

It's probably because AD buff on Janna's shield lasts only as long as shield holds. Karma, Lulu and Orianna all provide buffs with their shields too, but those buffs always last the full duration whether the shield is broken or not.

Would you have rather had Janna's shield duration reduced but with AD buff always lasting the full 5 seconds? It's still a sizeable nerf, just in a different way - making shield easier to break rather than having it expire faster.

Tesladin3 votes

Thats horrible

Shields take skill to use and this makes them far less rewarding

HowAboutWeNaut11 votes

This is a joke right? [sg-lux-2]

Tesladin5 votes

It takes skill to shield your ADC just before they're about to take damage

IxtaliKing14 votes

Reducing the duration of shields emphasizes timing. So the gameplay you're referring to here is being made clearer.

Tesladin2 votes

My problem with it is, in case you miss, the shield has less chance of paying off. So you have less motivation of getting right something that already takes alot of effort to use right. Because if you don't get it just right, you'll be punished for having had wasted it entirely more likely than before.

IxtaliKing11 votes

But that's where skill (timing) comes in.

The shields are currently very forgiving for the caster, especially when you throw 45% CDR into the mix.

Riot has a good reason for what they're doing here, i see that even as a Karma main. It's not as bad as it looks (I've tested it on PBE), especially if Riot ends up compensating them.
