Melee has Hydra, ranged has Runaan's and mages have..? NOTHING. Item idea for Season 5!

Alright so let's talk items.

item 3074 Ravenous Hydra: A melee-only item that gives lifesteal, attack power, regeneration, and makes all melee attacks deal splash damage. Lifesteal applies to splash.

item 3085 Runaan's Hurricane: A ranged-only item that greatly increases attack speed and passively creates two extra bolts that deal 50% damage to two other targets. Applies on-hit effects.

So what do mages have? They have nothing to fit the niche Runaan's and Hydra fit for ranged and melee classes.

So here's my suggestion, taking all things into account.

Orb of Magical Insight: **An item that only procs with single target damaging spells. What does it do? It gives AP and slight mana regeneration, but it's unique passive is that single target damaging spells shoot out a bolt of arcane energy from its point of impact that locks onto a single enemy within range (only if someone is in range and the original spell hit) and deals 50% of the original spells magic damage, with a maximum of 300 damage and it can only proc once every 3 seconds. **

Why? This makes it like Ruunan's, except for mages and only has one bolt instead of two. Not to mention it only procs every 3 seconds and does NOT apply on-hit effects. In exchange for this it has more burst damage, something mages often rely on. Ranged and Melee classes have an item like this, and it's bugged me that mages don't.

Whadd'ya think? :D

Mages with ranged attacks can use Runaan's Hurricane, Mages with melee attacks can use Ravenous Hydra.

... and AP by far has more itemization than AD. By faaaar.

What more do mages need, they already get the most itemization in the game.

THIS. This is what they need. Seriously though, the reason mages have so many different items is because they don't all use the same things, there's a lot of diversity.

actually AD has more far more itemization then AP champs do to the point that it could give an AD champ with no AoE capabilities the ability to AoE.

Is your aoe magic damage not enough?

Almost all mages already do significant aoe damage. Veigar probably has the least but he is designed to blow up a single target.

Where is my AD equivalent of dfg and zhonya's, id love one while we try to compare itemization for ridiculously different classes?

Suddenly Veigar is a LOT more advertising.

Melee bruisers and ADCs both rely a lot on their autoattack damage, which is why they both get the ability to make it AoE. Even then, both items are situational - Hydra gives no survivability so it tends to be a mainstay of AD assassin-likes (Riven) or champions with bad clear, and Runaan's is mostly useless on 95% of ADC builds, only sometimes finding a home with Varus, Kog'maw, Kayle, and Teemo.

An item like this would be outright broken on champions like Ryze, Nunu, or Veigar who have offensive high-damage single-target spells on a very low cooldown already (plus Veigar's ultimate is suddenly even more terrifying). Also, how would it interact with single-target DoT abilities like Swain's Decrepify and lazerbird?

Ravenous Hydra works as a great AD item that provides waveclear for melees.

Runaans works as a niche AS item that lets you proc on hits on 3 different people at the same time.

Mages already have large amounts of AoE damage for waveclear and hurting multiple people. Giving them even more waveclear is not needed.
