Tips on facing Ahri?

Ralanr··1 votes·1,066 views

I hate fighting Ahri. I hate her ball, I hate her charm, I hate her fox fire, and I hate her ult. I tend to not like mid lane in general, but if I'm stuck in it (rare but it happens) I always fight a hyper mobile champion of some regard.

So does anyone have tips for beating Ahri?

Funny thing is that I do have Kennen.

Veigar

Edit: In all seriousness, Galio works too.

I have been wanting to try Galio.

He's real fun against AP mid laners. Nice CC; all you have to build is every magic resist item you can think of. You might not win the game, in fact you probably wont given the current meta, but you'll win lane.

unfortunately if you go to cast R (.25s delay) and you dont see that ahri is casting her charm ( also has a .25s delay) her charm will travel, and cancel your ult. you'll hardly get any damage off, if any, and put you on that giant CD, dont get me wrong, galio is a good choice, its just that its more situational rather than hard counter.

I'm so bad that I died to Ahri as Yasuo.

I have too much of a tank mindset. I was stuck with mid.

Hold the phone here... Are you saying that you played Yasuo against Ahri and forgot that you were playing a hyper mobile champion yourself?

You claim you have a tank mindset and you don't like going mid. That there is your problem so that is telling me you cannot adapt to the play style of mid lane champions so what makes you think you will not have a harder time against other champions?

Guilty as charged. I rarely play mid (both because I don't have a particular interest in the champion pool and because there's usually always someone else with mid) so I lack a good understanding of how it works. I'm not really used to playing hyper-mobile champions, usually I'm just beefy enough to take their hits before I slap them upside the head (CC them) and say, "NO!".

From my last two experiences with mid (as Yasuo and Karthus) I faced an Ahri (her match is the subject of this thread) and an Ezreal. They really just moved too much for me to really deal with, the Ezreal fight in particular went from annoying to boring because I knew I couldn't hit him.

I don't mean to say I believe I'll have an easier time, I apologize if I have given that impression. Mid lane is my worst lane (though I'll take it over most ADC's) and I had hoped to find some tips on how to improve there or general information against this particular champions because she's a decently popular champion in mid.

Karthus is one of the champions that Ahri shits on so of course it's not going to go well for you even if you are a Karthus main. He relies a lot on farm and getting to late game.

Yasuo is all about mechanics. He is only as good as the player who knows how to utilize his kit.

If you are really that clueless how to mid but are forced to play the role, you shouldn't even be playing these champions to begin with. These are for the more experienced players that know how to utilize their kit.

If you have no choice but to play the role, I suggest going with Annie.

The thing I realize about my enemies when I play Ahri, is that they seem to forget I have mana costs. Seriously, pay attention to her mana and when she uses abilities. The amount of times I'm like "Crap, I need to kills creeps to get back some mana stat", and they didn't take advantage of this is amazing. Now I just stand there and bluff them with non-existing threat while I farm peacefully. Overall though, if you want a specific champion, Annie or Morgana.

annie/anivia works well too

My personal favorites to pick in to this match up are. Leblanc Annie Anivia

Also forgot to add that LB is probably more of a skill match up but it's a fun one.

If your looking for how to play LB in to Ahri go to youtube and check out Fakers LB 5.23 patch vs Ahri mid challenger solo que. I'd post the link but I'm at work currently and youtube isn't a site I can go on. I'll post the link when I get home unless someone else beats me to it.

<-- ahri main, play any champion with sustain, or any champion that rushesitem 3144 / item 3001 /item 3010 first item.

ahri is a very squishy champ, you use targeted abilities against her and she just takes it, very hard. it will always force her out.

i recommend you play Annie (literally just stun her with your Q whenever its up, she gets zoned easily, and anyone on your team can follow up and pop her) Yasuo ( windwall that charm and orb, then just dive her, you will always get her ult, always let her initiate first) Zed ( just spam Q indefinitely in lane, and W + Q for guaranteed damage, see her at half health? press R, get results, its a "skill" matchup but you have the innate advantage, beyond 6 just bully her endlessly by shoving the wave in on her ) Diana (wait till your 6, you just have higher base damages, and if you're even in farm you will come out ahead on trades and just general 1v1's)

Malzahar + Swain are great counters, ahri cant 100-0 them, nearly ever. these are very difficult lanes to win, at best she gets farm and goes to other lanes for kills, but she shouldn't be killing/winning against you.

overall, the best thing to do against ahri, is to bait her charm, then go in on her, or keep minions between you and her to avoid the charm, and then just out scale her (shes quite weak compared to most mid laners and needs a lot of free damage to bring kill potential)

You dodge her Q. That just 'bought sums it up.

The key with Ahri is really getting her to come to you. She's a kiting focused champion who punishes people who attack her directly. However Ahri has short range on half of her damage and will need to jump forward at some point to do real damage. That's usually when you want to get her. Good Ahri's will poke you before doing so and if she gets your health down she can definately close out a kill, so you will need to dodge the q.

And oh, the people who think Annie counter Ahri. I can't say how many of them I've abused in the past... Annie does not counter Ahri in lane. Quite the opposite, Ahri has the tools to abuse all of Annie's weaknesses. She is frustrating to Ahri later because of her targetted stun.

if your far behind, play passive, and build abyssal or anthene (depends on what type of kit you have) if your an AP assassin/mage, if your an assassin you can buy hexdrinker, and if that isnt enough get merc threads boots, if she is super fed late game, you can buy banshees veil so she cant 100-0 you

And know when to engage as well after each and every ability she uses, and know that CD she has, her 2nd half of the Q that comes back can be dodgeable as well, but when further away its more difficult.

Mistikal1 votes

Malzahar dumpsters her. but also, dont stand in the minion wave to farm or youll get harassed by her q, stand behind the minions though to avoid getting taunted. respect her level 6 all in and hope you can dodge skill shots better than they can throw them.

I personally like starting boots and pots v her to dodge a little better.
