If you aren't Diamond+, don't assume what Diamond+ play is like

chipndip1··62 votes·2,798 views

Why? Because just like any of you, I also did that thing where I was like "Man, people in Diamond definitely group/rotate/itemize/use meta champs/ward/don't flame/land skill shots/have proper manners/aren't racist/respect women/eat balanced meals/donate to charity".

We really don't. We do these things more, but the same stupid shit you see in your lower elo games? Same thing up here. Same stupid shit. Same flaming. Same defeatist attitudes. Same everything. It's more manageable and all, but generally it's still the same game.

"Im a bronze 2 but I deserve Diamond, my team just sucks"

Meanwhile in Diamond

"My team is boosted omg"

ChaoticPinecone24 votes

Same attitudes. With better CS.

ChaosThief2 votes

This is probably the most accurate.

Malicious Metal9 votes

You haven't seen my CS.

Keti2 votes

not going to lie, CS differences are not that big across the elos, at least in evenish matchups. jg is the exception.

My Heartshaker20 votes

Does this mean I can't agree with you then, since I'm not Diamond+?

(even though I do)

chipndip14 votes

I imagine you can, I guess? Didn't think this far ahead...

Let's say you can "based on what a Diamond player told you.", since that's not an assumption at that point.

Katie Killjoy11 votes

Are you telling me everyone doesn't have a 100% winrate and adds each other while gifting each other skins and going to parties?

Skins Project6 votes

I just want to say, vise versa. If your Silver- Don't assume what it's like below silver. Some people think everyones mechanically dead, in reality you can see people in bronze even whom have great mechanics but don't know how to end games. (& the other way around)

NAY Wrecksauce4 votes

and then you realize the people with great mechanics are smurfs that just don't want to end to maintain their ranks [slayer-jinx-wink]

:P

Skins Project2 votes

Not always...

There are people that don't know how to end a game. They keep solo pushing and dying to 1v3s 1v2s whtever.

Maszii1 votes

So if they have good mechanics and are good at the game they should be able to win those 1v2/1v3's aswell

Skins Project3 votes

Ehhhhhh..

Think about it this way, you could be a god yasuo, but if you get irelia cc to tf cc to annie cc, all the mechanics in the world aren't going to save you. However the thing is you shouldn't be in this situation, you should be with your team, so if they do blow everything on you your team has an advantage, if they don't, you can go and outplay or whtever

Maszii1 votes

Of thats the point but if you are way better mechanically then you can 1v2/3 a lot of the times.

Skins Project3 votes

My point is, while good mechanics generally speaking will let you climb, people with good mechanics or decision making can still be stuck in low elo.

Maddened King 1 votes

No, I can assume that is wrong because no one at silver and bronze has good mechanics. You think they are good, but they ain't.

Skins Project1 votes

Really now? Just like there's nobody who's trash in diamond right? Please. As someone who plays in about 5 diffrent LOL servers, I assure you mechanics honestly doesn't mean shit in the long run. If mechanics were all that mattered, how does annie work in high elo? It's about decision making and cooperation more then anything.

Get over your pride. I assure you somewhere in the millions of players in bronze/silver devisions there is someone who could easily 1v1 you and whup your arse without being a smurf.

Karunamon1 votes

Except for smurfs, placements, and scripters.

Being racist and flaming is all nice and fun... but y'all don't respect women?

chipndip13 votes

Surprised no one upvoted this yet so I'll just chip in.

NickMP5 votes

If anything watching Dyrus and even some LCS has convinced me it's the same up to challenger, players just get a little better each step of the way, the game never really just instantly transforms into some mythical world where a level 1 Soraka's going to solo a full health tower with just a Rejuvenation Bead and a Control Ward.

Birdie Sànders4 votes

With the way towers are now, I wouldn't be surprised if she could

Catastrophic4 votes

With all the streams all over twitch, no one has to assume.

At least in diamond I don't see flaming like "you and your family have cancer", "hang yourself", "you fucking degenerate" and any insult that involves my mother and sexual intercourse. That's the kind of stuff I used to see up until low platinum. And I'm not even joking. So yeah I got that going for me. Other than that, my experience in diamond is pretty much how op described.

Rain00192847233 votes

I can vouch for this in platinum too. In fact, Plat can be more toxic then silver and bronze sometimes. feelsbad

SpecterVonBaren2 votes

In silver and bronze, at least everyone is legit just not that good at the game and so it doesn't feel that bad losing and things are more free and loose. Now that I'm in Diamond myself, it just feels really constrained and extreme.

Big Lincoln8 votes

i dont know if you've played in plat recently

everyone i have on my teams, ranked AND normals, is tense and easy to agitate

Tormentula2 votes

Ranked Plat: tilted demoted diamonds, people who climbed to gold and think they're faker for that, people who are agitated for losing as they delay the diamond they're so close to in their eyes.

Normals Plat: the team is still mostly silver and points figures at the plat for not carrying, nobody is trying their best with their best champs and get frowned upon and called shit, sometimes one other player on the enemy team is plat and shits on your silvers and says ez.

Bârd3 votes

Only thing that stays the same here is Ego.

Everyone's still pretty shit, we just refuse to admit it and just blame our allies for our shitty performance.

Low diamond is notorious for this.

chipndip13 votes

Attitudes in Plat/Low Diamond are actually legitimately deplorable. Honestly, I think mid Gold is like the least toxic elo I've been in.

MardukOne1 votes

That's soooo true.

undesirable team2 votes

cus riot wont do shit about boosting services low elo getting high elo cus of eloboosts

Rewt2 votes

That is a tiny portion of the community and you know it. Stop trying to grandstand and say that legit diamond players dont do it on a regular basis. because they do.

chipndip12 votes

Boosted players are bad and just sink out of Diamond eventually. Doesn't change the notion that people in Diamond fall apart just as bad as anyone else does in ANY lower elo as soon as their game starts to go south. People that play this game in general usually lack the mental fortitude to see their matches through when they're in less than optimal situations.

its really hard to sink out of d5

At least there's someone that can tell us this while not be a condescending jerk. I try to ask people on my friends list what it's like in gold-platinum, but they don't tell you a word, and instead make you feel useless and don't give you any advice you don't already know without asking you any helpful questions.

Sir Fuzzi2 votes

Anybody who does not play this game professionally plays on the same stage of relevance. #reallifemeta

Drunkèn Master2 votes

I heard this from a Diamond friend, he said "The only difference in elo, is how much you grinded at one point in time."

I'm sure this is 100% true, cause I have an acquaintance that has been stuck in B5 since season 2...:P

Though I think it may have some relevance.

chipndip13 votes

Depends on how you look at it. The lesson here is that anyone can get higher elo if they put in the time to get good enough to land it. It's not some crazy magic more than it's understanding and application. Diamond players aren't genies, and they still bleed when cut. That's if you ask me anyway.

RK N0va1 votes

If I can attest to anything having gone from Bronze to Plat, it's this: Stupid shit still happens, but less often. I still see people face check every now and then, I still see people attempt baron when all 5 enemies are up and clearly heading towards baron. Stupid shit still happens, but just not as much. I'd also say I notice a significant difference in aggression. People in silver really like to play passive, where as high elo players tend to be more apt to force trades in lane and try to bully.

chipndip12 votes

People in Silver play passive because they're either too afraid to poke, can't juggle poking and cs'ing at the same time, or were told to focus on cs'ing so much that they magically think that hardcore farmville is gonna carry them to the challenger series. People in higher elo, however, are way more confident and decently more polished, so they bully and shove more in an attempt to force you under turret so you miss farm. Is the latter method just blatantly better? Not when you don't remember to freeze the lane when you get that advantage, but no one I lane with knows what a lane freeze is. -_-

As for the former part of this post...A1 top notch 10/10 couldn't agree more.

Troll for Trump1 votes

Plats are the worst to play with. Diamonds seem to pretty chill. Golds are slightly better than plats. Silver is a mixed bag. Bronze is horrible, but not as bad as plat.

chipndip12 votes

That's what I'm telling you: The toxicity and stupidity is the same all over the game. Diamonds play the game better more consistently, but that doesn't mean the tom foolery just "magically ends". We aren't less toxic in the slightest. We just play X amount better X% of the time more than others and capitalize on more types of mistakes, depending on the difference in elo. Doesn't mean we don't make the same mistakes or do the same stupid shit.

Troll for Trump1 votes

I disagree about the toxicity thing; some rank brackets just have more toxic people. It's anecdotal, but still. Up to yesterday, haven't seen anyone in ranked try to use personal insults; only heard it from a plat.

I though the whole schtick about plat players thinking they were gods wasn't true, but it was. Plat players are selfish.

chipndip11 votes

Oh yeah, Plat players are absolutely ridiculous. Diamond gives me headaches sometimes, but Plat's the freaking worst.

Catastrop1 votes

This is why I treat everyone the same in my games, you're bad and I will treat you like it until you actually stomp me and assert your skill. It's why I didn't bother climbing past S1, I can get a way more competitive feel in my Normal games at pretty much the same skill level, than the snooze fest that was Ranked.

Hyperiön1 votes

Uh... Ranked and normal MMR are completely different.

You could be in challenger ranked, but have normal mmr of gold fella.

Catastrop1 votes

I didn't say anything about MMR, I meant player quality. I could have the same Silver and Gold players that I was getting matched against in Ranked, but it would be way more competitive in a normal environment despite being a casual game. Why that is, is beyond me.

chipndip11 votes

The thing you're noticing isn't player quality. It's that people are more chill in norms, including you. You aren't getting better teams in norms. You're getting opponents that don't care about the outcome, people practicing champs when you might not be, and the good old Rito match-making. Put these same dudes in ranked and watch everyone turn into a bunch of degenerate bonobos.

Hyperiön1 votes

Reason why normals are like that, as chip said, is there no nothing in normals. You go in with friends and just have fun.

Id rather play with diamonds and plats though because It makes me better at the game. and sometimes I can actually keep up with them, if not beat them.
