The IP values are insanely low for aram.

For a game mode that is meant to encourage a fun and a non-toxic environment. These IP values actually encourage you to never play this mode if you want to get anywhere in league in terms of champions and runes. The game I was in someone used a skin boost so we all got 136 IP for that game, 36+100, we get a bonus 100 for the skin boost. That means that we only would've gotten 36 IP for that game. 36 Like what the hell? Surely somebody at Riot plays aram and can sympathize with this.

That was a 16 minute game...

Zenthon Prime15 votes

A 16-minute loss, too.

A Miss Fortune7 votes

Can't you get like, 75 IP for a 20 minute loss on Summoner's Rift though?

36 for 16 min -ARAM

75 for 20 min -SR

Yeah.

My match history.

**ARAM: **I got 68 IP on Karma where I basically carried my team throughout the entire thing going 18-8-26. The game lasted 23 minutes

Summoner's Rift: I got 79 IP on Quinn where I didn't do the BEST but I did average I guess. 12-9-9. The game lasted 45 minutes.

Summoner's Rift: Again I lost another game on Summoner's Rift, I fed and went 4-9-7 as Karma again. The game also lasted roughly about 20 minutes longer. I still got more IP than on ARAM.

So basically, even if you feed, the fact that your game lasts longer by 10 - 20 minutes on Summoner's Rift means you can get noticeably more IP than in a game where you single handedly carried your team, got extremely fed, and won on ARAM.

Mathematically, you do get less for playing ARAM and it's noticeable.

Zenthon Prime2 votes

Look at it this way: -You got ~35 IP for ~15 on ARAM (loss) -You got ~80 IP for 45 minutes on SR (loss)

Do the math.

So actually, in the cases you gave us you got far more IP-per-minute in ARAM than SR. Oh, and personal performance doesn't affect IP gains in any mode.

I want to play a quick match, plays for 20 minutes, expects some IP, gets a rock instead.

I also did the math, and yours seems off. I've played 40 minute matches on SR and saw the opponent victors get above 90 IP (92 to be exact from one the players). So doing the math, 3x35=105. At 45 minutes, the enemies would had pretty much gotten the same amount, averaging to 100 to 105. You do not get far more. I'd like to get a extra 20% more win or lose in ARAM. So, If I were to play for 15 minutes and get either 35 or more, I'd get 7 extra IP or more. If I were to come out with 40 minutes of play, I'd get 70 at least and have 14 extra IP even at a loss, or 18 extra if I'd won with 90 IP for a total of either 84 or 108 IP.

"Your math is wrong because I've seen other numbers you weren't aware of." Using only those variables his math damages your argument. 33% time for 43% IP. Seems efficient. But obviously that's not enough variables. I think the worst argument in this thread is that ARAM SHOULD provide you with the same amount of IP. I just can't agree, personally.

EDIT: Just because I know the point will be made, I know you aren't saying the two should modes should give the same IP gains. We can all agree SR should give more. I still think ARAM is at a reasonable spot considering the much more casual playing the mode is. I do think perhaps the time scaling on ARAM IP gains could be adjusted. I'd have to see some numbers first on different intervals, possibly every 5 minutes, varying wins and losses.

A Miss Fortune2 votes

Your performance doesn't have any effect? I was always told otherwise by a lot of people until now lol.

Before those games I also won a game with Evelynn where I got 100 IP and it only lasted about 15 minutes longer than the one with Karma.

Aeolian Melodies2 votes

whether you carry or get carried doesn't affect your IP and it shouldn't

A Miss Fortune2 votes

That's like saying because I single handedly carried my team throughout the game, I shouldn't get a bigger reward from my teammate who intentionally fed and trolled the entire game.

Zenthon Prime3 votes

Yep. That's exactly how it is. The reason is to weaken "Vayne-syndrome": players that only care about their own performance at the cost of their team.

A Miss Fortune2 votes

So I can't care about doing good and also winning the game with my team at the same time?

Because believe me, even if I'm 20-0 with Caitlyn after I just 1v5'ed and got a pentakill, which really happened, I still warded and I still tried my best to win without just going around killing people for no reason at all. Of course we won but I don't think the "Vayne-syndrome" or whatever is a logical reason to not give me a bit more IP for carrying my team.

I think there's a difference between carrying your team and just simply going 20-0. You can get fed all you want, but it doesn't mean you will win the game and it doesn't mean you're actually carrying necessarily. Now if you're warding, pushing, taking objectives, trying to get good teamfights going and win the game overall, that is much better.

ARAM could use a higher IP reward.

Has Riot seen how much their champions, runes, and rune pages cost?

disregardable4 votes

The IP values are the same across all PvP game modes. Shorter games just get less IP, as do defeats.

Laraso15 votes

Not true. You get more IP from playing Dominion than other games, there is a small extra IP bonus for finishing a game.

disregardable6 votes

I personally wouldn't consider dominion a pvp match or playable, but if that floats your boat.

Ariel the Cruel4 votes

Just because Riot has forgotten it exists. And allows the bot population to roam free there away from the prying eyes of SR.

That doesn't make it any less of a PvP mode. It just makes Riot look bad every time someone remembers it.

Yeah but the formula for coming up with your IP is the same across all game modes

Blue Moon Wolf1 votes

I assume due to the fact very few people play it, so riot gives more IP as incentive.

Desiderium4 votes

16 minutes is extremely short. IP gains are meant to be small in those time frames to prevent exploitation.

Doctor Dyment3 votes

Well, ARAM is kind of a gimmick mode. (Sorry for those who play it frequently) ARAM games are supposed to be short, straight to the point, and fun. Because the games are kind of shorter, and the way of choosing champions is entirely random, (so it could be a team of all tanks versus all ADC's) it would make sense that the amount of IP gained from it is lower than that of the other game modes.

and the way of choosing champions is entirely random,

I'm sorry but that isn't true. ARAM uses semi-random mechanic. As it's random of players pool.

Which we, ARAM-players, hate alot, because you can abse it.

it's fun until you face

Azir Ziggs Sona Nidalee Nami

Actually Azir is kind of meh in ARAM. Varus ,Jayce ,Ezreal on other side... are face-melting-machines-of-pain.

and KogMaw

Kog can really make enemy teams miserable, but he takes very long to be real pain in butt (second level of R).

While those 3 i mentioned are annoying/hurtful from the beginning.

It probably has a lot to do with the game time and the fact that you get less ip for a loss. A 27 minute game where the enemy team surrendered on the rift gave me 80 ip. A 29 minute win on the abyss gave me 82 ip. A 15 minute ARAM win gave me 49 ip. A 15 minute loss was only 35. The ip gains are really close if not equal unless winning by sureender gives less ip. The big difference is you can play more ARAM games per hour than SR games.

doiminat0r36001 votes

Riot - "But the champions owned will balance out the IP between SR and..." Everyone else - "No. That's not how it works. If we own 36 champions, we still only get ~70 IP per game."

FantasySniper1 votes

It is a much faster game-mode, and it actually gives more IP/min than any other. (Especially since there's no lobby or wait-time shenanigans)

Phife1 votes

You gain IP based on time played and if you win, or if it was a surrender.

This game was a loss and only lasted 16 min. Id say 36IP is good....

Starcall Casey2 votes

36 IP is never good, even if it was an 8 minute match where everyone got stomped. It's never a good reward.

Phife1 votes

It was a 16 min match and you did get stomped... idk what you're getting at.

Akali MIA Care3 votes

If you think you deserve more than 36 IP for losing a match in 8 minutes, getting "stomped" as you said, then you're spoiled and have a self entitlement issue.

Krigjer1 votes

Well you only get about 50 IP if you surrender Summoner's Rift at 20 minutes.

Besides, why would you care about your champ pool if you're playing ARAM exclusively. You can't choose your champion to begin with.

EternalDarknez1 votes

bottom line is this

the more ip they give you the less real money you will spend on champions

Mannysmoker1 votes

I dont play aram, but I know those games can end really quick and why would you want to get more than 70 IP per win in a 15 mins game when I on Summoners Rift get like 90+ for a 30+ mins game.

Fowus1 votes

well it's aram so you're obviously going to get less IP since the games are much shorter than SU ones

arcinex1 votes

IP gains are pretty low for any match
