so whats the counterplay to a snowballing zed?

FOR JUSTICE··2 votes·693 views

I mean when he only has about 2 kills, before hes out of control of course.

ive been picking up support Leona, but it never occurred to me how cancerous he can be. if I save my CC for peel, I cant go ham like ive been practicing. if I save my CC to go balls-deep, I risk my adc getting one-shot from being too far away.

in these situations, what am I supposed to do?

Here is how you need to think of playing a support like Leona. Is their carry more valuable than yours? If yes, you should try to go for them. If not, you should sit back and peel yours.

FOR JUSTICE1 votes

oh I meant like actual actions, as far as builds go I was gonna go knights vow -> boots -> locket. I didn't think to take tabis though, thanks.

Mig891 votes

just stand behind your adc and q when he ults and wait for him to show up so he can die like the dirty ninja he is.

item 3047 counters two items worth of Lethality, so your entire team should rock them if there's a Zed on the other team.

VØIÐ1 votes

Is it weird that I rarely ever see a Zed player buy a lethality item first?

I been seeing a lot of Zed players buying item 3071 first, then any single item 3147 item 3142 item 3814 lethality item second followed by item 3036 or item 3033

Don't go ham unless you don't need to save your cc to peel.

You should be peeling the fed carry. This applies to any fed carry really. Zed is going to be waiting for you to blow your CC or else he's useless. luckily he doesn't contribute much unless he's diving. Here's not going to get to use his W twice in a single fight except for maybe very late game (levels it last and has a 22 second CD at rank 1)

the enemy carry or peeling for my carry?

Bilizver1 votes

You should probably play Lulu against zed the polymorph on target makes it super hard for him to oneshot your adc + you have shield and ulty on top of that.So just stay with your adc whole game and w8 for late game in 5v5 fights zed only strenght is to kill the enemy adc and yuo can prevent that. And encourage your adc to pick smth like Xayah or Ezreal that game if they can play them ofc.

FOR JUSTICE1 votes

actually the game I just got rekt in was a xayah adc, we managed to cheese and got first blood, but I didn't think zed was going to be a problem until later (I know now to always check how far ahead everyone is XD)

Krully1 votes

zed will always appear behind the target he has ulted, just hang back and nab the tool before he gets away as there is a delay on his r shadow

Don't be a Leona that forgets about her adc after laning..... If you won lane and your adc is fed.... Your sole purpose now is to keep them alive at all costs.... Including dieing to save them. Edits: autocorrect

its based on the situation, during teamfights you don't want to leave your adc behind at all. not that you shouldn't engage but your CC is far more valuable when protecting the one who can do the most damage and the adc can, in theory do infinite damage if they have an infinite amount of time to do so.

meanwhile in the early game leona's high base stats are great for going all in and that should be taken advantage of

in the end you are a tank and tanks require an ally to do reliable damage, if you are building like a tank that is.

FOR JUSTICE2 votes

yeah I go full tank after my item 3401

but during teamfights, especially when I'm the only form of reliable CC on the team, my team expects and tells me to go in, but once I blow my CC in pops the assassin, but then its my fault for not peeling (to which I would expect someone to take my place and peel if the adc is in trouble)

You should not be the only engage. I always encourage 2-3 forms of engage in champion select unless the other team's comp is ass.

FOR JUSTICE1 votes

so if we don't have reliable CC its better to just dodge the que then?

Mig891 votes

If you dont have multiple people to engage, dont play a support for the engage. Its a bad idea. Youll never have the gold income to initiate without getting blown up. Play a different champion. I cant stand when people want the support to be the only tank (im a support main) it just doesnt work. If the rest of your team is squishy, just go for a damage/enchanter support.

mute all

if you are the only reliable form of cc during a teamfight you should never engage but protect your adc instead. sometimes waiting for the enemy to engage is the better choice

imagine it like this, if you are playing rakan he has great engages because he can go in blow everything and come back out. you always want to engage

while tahm kench has a horrible engage, instead he is perfect for saving and turning around an enemies attack. nothing but master peel here

now leona has a much more basic kit which lets her be somewhat of a generalist in the two areas. this relies more heavily on your very own game knowledge, because you have both a great engage and decent peel although you can only choose one of the two at a certain time due to cooldowns whichever it is you can make or brake a game depending on the choice

i would recommend relying on your own instincts more instead of what others are telling you to do. that way if you make the wrong choice you will know it was your own choice and if you recognize those mistakes you will only get better at the basic game knowledge and what the specific champion is capable of

item 3157 item 2423 item 3047 seriously these 3 items can screw over any zed immediately especially when his ult is about to pop

webstar19951 votes

If there is a fed assassin on the other team (Kha, Rengo, Zed, Talon,Eve, Kat, Akali) Leo is a very good pick, but i like thresh better for these situations. As Leona you need to focus on the assassin and the other adc. Vs zed you can literally ult your adc at the right time and then E, Q zed for chain cc and your adc will never die. This action will keep you from "going ham" for another 10 seconds, but with the right build you will still have tools to help the rest of your team. summoner 3 summoner 4 item 3190 item 3109 item 3050 item 3401 item 3107 item 3110 item 3117 these are items that will keep your adc/other carries safe. Leona is a great support. Goodluck.

just a little iffy on zekes. I never know the appropriate time to build it :/

Zeke is not great for keeping the ADC alive, but if they're fed this will help the adc secure kills. If you notice, i put down 7 items. You can only build 6. I was just throwing good support items out.

FOR JUSTICE1 votes

ah ok. still dosent answer the appropriate time to build it though XD

Mig891 votes

If you snowball early IBG is good on leona imo but im only gold so idk

webstar19951 votes

Also if the adc is Vayne or Xayah they can take care of Zed themselves if they're not below Silver probably.

oortoomeebreesuu1 votes

as leona, you can actually almost always solar flare his ultimate location. Zed will always appear next to his ult target, on the side OPPOSITE his shadow(starting location). You can see this in action in clips like this, where faker charms behind himself the moment zed appears

https://youtu.be/hBKH-2ihOXM?t=12

This makes zed actually really predictable. With a bit of practice, you can basically guarantee a kill on Zed without him getting his q off after his ult.

The other thing to do would be to go redemption first. Just press the button the moment zed uses his ultimate, and with your exhaust or adc heal, it should be at least manageable if he doesn't literally triple Q your adc.

Mig891 votes

He always appears behind the champ he ults when he ultis I thought. Nothing to do with his shadow location. Makes Zed freelo if youre playing leona and he tries ulting your adc. as soon as he pops his ult, q, and then be ready to click him. You can q,e,q(if you have enough cdr) and your adc can melt him unless theyre behind but theirs and Leona's dmg will usually get the job done.

FOR JUSTICE1 votes

would he appear behind the direction they are currently facing, or the direction they were facing when he initially ulted?

webstar19951 votes

if Z is zed and A is your adc this is what happens Z...................A (before ult) ..................AZ (not matter what direction they're facing) It is this way with Akali R as well.

The Sword Saint1 votes

You can think of it as zed making a zenith blade type dash to the target, except he ends up on the other side of them.

Its All Skillzz1 votes

Hope zed player is bad cause boards thinks assassins are weak and cant do shit. there is a reason the top challenger players main shit like akali/kha zix.

Yaśuo Main1 votes

probably because those two are fucking broken, and not zed who is almost an auto-lose champion in high elo

The short answer is, you have to make a choice. This isn't special to leona. You have 4 skills, he has 4 skills, either you reactively counter, or proactively play-make... being the play-maker sure is more fun though.

The longer answer is, your jungler / mid / top should be willing to swap ADC-protection duty with you if you're the team's engage.... but they are likely to be just as bloodthirsty as you are and therefore likely to refuse and tell you "it is your job to defend ADC".

This chimes in to another point I am recently making. You as Leona have a choice. A more fun game-play, or to coutner zed. Whereas his design sacrifices the ability to have a less fun but also effective game-play pattern, to make his fun game-play pattern better. Therefore he gets to win the trade whenever you choose "fun" with him around.
