Warwick jungle, rushing Rageblade. Worth or no?

Elite4Runner··3 votes·3,173 views

I understand that a lot of people don't like Rageblade at all, so I suspect that I'll get a lot of nays, but try and be objective please.

Obviously I would expect to start Hunter's Talisman for the mana sustain and bonus exp.

But would it be worth it to skip the jungle item and rush Rageblade?

Or would it be good to finish the jungle item and go for Rageblade as your second item?

Or to get it later, 3rd, 4th, 5th, or 6th item?

Or of course, is Rageblade just not a good item on Warwick right now?

As for the last one, I honestly believe that it IS a good item on him, but again, I suspect that people don't like it at all. Being the most attack speed available in a single item is substantial considering that he relies so heavily on his on-hit. Scaling on both AP and AD is good for him as well. Then of course the double-hit only emphasizes his on-hit even more. I would be willing to believe that there are simply other items that are more efficient based on how expensive Rageblade is, and how awkward it's build path is. If this is your argument, please give me an example of a build that is better.

And I am also looking for an offensive WW build, not so much a tank build, but suggestions on that would be appreciated as well.

As a Warwick main, I have found the best build path for me to be item 1419 item 3047 item 3091 item 3748 item 3153 item 3124. Allows me to have enough tankiness at the right times to keep up a good streak, and to recover easily if I'm not doing so good. All the items except boots give on hit as well. I do sometimes go Guinsoos after Wit's End if I am fed already though.

Your 4th item makes no sense because you didn't build health....

Altonius Amakiir2 votes

Its meant mostly for the health that it alone gives. Warwick has a high health pool as is, so you don't need a lot of it. It also has an on hit effect which works well with his kit. At full build it does about 33 damage per hit which is decent, and given his ult procs it 5 times, plus the extra guinsoos procs, it adds decent damage and well needed tankiness to the build.

You sink 3600 gold into damage as a jungler that has no dodges or escapes. The kicker is that you farm slow, so other people are going to have more gold than you.

How are you going to avoid being burst down in teamfights?

IMO, warwick should rush Tiamat or Bami's Cinder so that he can farm fast in between ganks and that leads to easy itemization paths to sunfire+bloodrazor or titanic hydra + cinderhulk. With Fervor and either bloodrazor or hydra he does massive damage.

My thought was that the bonus attack speed/double-hit and effective double damage statistics would help to increase his clear speed. I can agree that either of the Tiamat items would probably be good for his clear speeds given the AOE damage.

Maybe pick up Rageblade after completing the Tiamat item??? Especially if he is well ahead.

Also, his passive should apply the additional damage and healing from with the double-hit, so I figure it may also be good for sustain.

I'm clearly not a WW main, which is why I'm asking to begin with.

Thank you for your comment.

WW sucks right now because he's one of those champs you need to farm to 6 to have strong ganks, so you should be powerfarming as hard as you can 1-6. However, since he has such a slow single target clear speed a lot of other junglers will outlevel him while also being able to gank and countergank.

Rageblade is way too expensive especially since he has zero means to disengage or escape so it's all in, meaning you need spirit visage & armor item by mid game or you're dead within seconds of a skirmish.

  1. Bloodrazor easily. Never skip it
  2. Botrk or just cutlass if behind then start to tank up. The on use from this item gives you what you need to stick onto targets, especially if you take blue smite. Mallet is too expensive to full finish before you can get your stick on champ ability, but fine for late game as a later item. Extra lifesteal will five you a bit more tankiness before the enemy gets too much damage
  3. Spirit visage for even more healing, MR and CDR.
  4. Armor item after. Can swap 3 & 4 depending on their comp
  5. Flex slot. I still wouldnt pick rageblade for it

While it is true you need 6 to have strong ganks, it is still possible to gank a lane if they are pushed up as Warwick. Also, I have never had a problem clearing camps quickly, in fact I end up higher level than the other jungler 9/10 times. This might be attributed to AS and lethality runes, and the highly efficient clear path i go with from playing him so long, but it definitely shouldn't be slow.

As far as disengaging goes you are correct, he has none, thats why I build defensive items first(ninja tabi>wits end>titanic), after bloodrazor of course, because once you engage, you are usually just going to stand in the enemy team and wail on them until either you die, or they die/run. On occasion you can run away with your e, but usually expect not to be able to do that. So basically the strategy because of this is to have enough damage to kill everyone before they have a chance to kill you, or at least that's my strategy.

The biggest problems with Warwick right now, is if you want to play him you have to be really good at clearing jungle, have right runes(some lethality makes a world of a difference), and know really well when is a good or bad time to engage. Otherwise you have to build him tanky, low damage, and in my opinion that's no fun. Also you will have to steal some cs from lanes whenever you pass them/gank them(about 4 each time).

Just finished a game with this build: item 1419 item 3047 item 3091 item 3748 item 3153 item 3124 and had about twice the damage output of anyone else in the game. http://matchhistory.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/#match-details/NA1/2374130311/209800917?tab=overview

If you are outleveling the other jungler, they either don't know how to jungle or they were AFK. It's simple math: if both junglers farm to 6, warwick does it slower than 90% of any junglers including things like Jungle Brand or Jungle Leona because he can't clear raptor or krugs nearly as fast.

By the time you get rageblade, you don't even know if you will have the time to farm camps or if the camps will even be there. Rageblade is 3600 gold. Think about that. 3600 gold is huge. It is getting 12 kills in a row.

And if you go tiamat->rageblade, you have something like 1400 HP as a melee AD jungler. If you have 1400 HP as a melee AD jungler, you better be able to burst people like a Rengar or Kha'Zix otherwise they'll kill you instantly - ah, but you bought rageblade, which is specifically not for bursting.

Just remember: in a teamfight, even if everyone only autoattacks you with 0 items, at level 14, that's 300 damage from a single round of base damage autos. The average ability in league does 250 base damage when maxed at level 9. If everyone just autos you once and hits you with 1 ability once with 0 defensive items, you're dead.

That's why engage tanks aren't "engage assassins" and that's why champs like Zac don't build full AP. If all they had was their base tankiness and rest damage, they could literally die in mid-air before their jumps even go off. The reason that champs like Kha'Zix and Rengar can build full damage is because 1. they only clean up low HP targets after the fight starts or in ganks where the target doesn't fight back 2. they can jump back out with either roar or jump reset and 3. they still get a little tanky later with item 3071 item 3156 item 3026 .

If I remember the ult doesn't apply on hit anymore so imo it's not worth getting such an expensive item. It's only really worth in cooperation with other onhit-items for which you need more money. WW doesn't have enough Potential to autoattack someone long enough to make rageblade worth it.

It does, but it doesn't apply rageblade which does not exactly work as a classic "on-hit" effect

I was thinking more to increase his clear speed and the off chance that he does need to duel. I suppose Tiamat is probably better for that, but maybe getting Rageblade later could still be good to further increase it's effectiveness.

Rageblade in itself is a good item on WW. But it's too goddamn expensive and he's shitty at clearing the current jungle. So either you're really ahead and can afford rageblade, but then it doesn't matter because you are WW and ahead, or you are behind and you're just going to be an useless piece of filth with that item providing no defense at all.

Then again you can argue that dead people can't hurt you.

Dont rush...you will never be able to auto long enough in a fight to keep the stacks up.

Dont rush...you will never be able to auto long enough in a fight to keep the stacks up.

From what I understand (which is actually supported by your comment) Warwick spends a majority of his time farming jungle camps, and very little time actually ganking/dueling enemy champions.

Which means this would be good for improving his clear speed, instead of improving his ganking/dueling ability.

Granted, I will give you that it doesn't make much sense to grind enough gold to buy an expensive item so that you can farm faster afterward instead of investing less gold into an alternative item that could be just as effective.

Thank you for your comment though.

Just get Wits End..makes him clear faster and the item only costs 2500...but imo go Bloodrazor----->Bork---->Wits End------>FH----->Spirit Visage

Perhaps if you were snowballing like mad, and your team has a good late game, but is doing poorly you could go rageblade 4th item (1st devourer 2d bork 3tird tank item 4th rageblade) and splitpush, with all the attack speed from your items some tankiness and your W, you should be able to take towers faster then the enemies team combined a good stratagy is to since you take towers so fast is to split bot and tell your team to 4 man siege top, if the enemy team sends 2 people to kill you, your team can win a 4v3 or take baron, if the enemy team sends one person to kill you, well you can either just auto them to death, or ult them if they are dangerous the suppres should cock block them hard enought for you to get a kill and you then take tower, then run, if NOBODY comes to stop you you get towers+inhib but your team might die if they get hard engaged after inhib they either baron so you should be able to get nexus towers before you need to go, or they go after you, in which case you B and basically AFK until your teams back up Guinsoo isnt a bad item its just that their are better items if you think the situation needs you to get Splitpushing power Dueling power Sustain and tower taking ability then Guinsoo can be what you want

pfffffffffffffffffft Devouer is an item, its just removed I was suggesting to hack it into your inventory space, not like anybodies going to notice with guinsoo, (I ment bloodrazor I thank you for correcting my mistake)

If you would like me to make you a guide to how I play Warwick I can make you one. Although it may not be viable for much longer with his update coming soon.

The thing with rageblade is: U have to leave another offensive Item outta your build cause no matter how much dmg you have u wont be able to apply it mid-late game.

Also it's more of a sustained dmg item, if going offensive on ww the best start to the build is: jgl item, wits end and titanic

These 3 items give u incredible burst on your ultimate. And if even only slight ahead u will onehit squishies. (Don't forget to activate titanic before r)

Rageblade is a highly situational item against teams with no cc/mobility/high burst as they will just shrug u off after ur ultimate.

So either u take rageblade as 5th item instead of bork then build a defensive item or u skip rageblade/bork and go for 2 defensive items as ur dmg output will be higher if u can survive.
