Only two assassins have positive winrates (so far)

kha 'zix and shaco sit at exactly 50% winrate . according to leagueofgraphs. the rest are around 47% winrate

Umm. I guess the rework didn't introduce them back into the meta. as the only meta assassin was pretty much just kha zix and some shaco (i think they are also the only ones that had above 50% winrate). and they are the only ones that still do. didn't work out so well. huh. ranged marksman and mages have too much safety in team fights and assassins are still too risky.

I mean there are 5 assassins in the bottom 10 . not much to say

a good way to fix this is to give melee champions higher tenacity.

When you nerf every single ability of a champion that already had a below average winrate to begin with, you get new Akali

Her win rate was not low prior to the rework. It hovered between 50% and 52% for mid and top lane.

It hovered between 47 and 50 actually. Considering her pick rate was 1.7-2%, that's abysmal.

well, mage update had a similar case. Let's give these champions some time, shall we?

MunchCrunchLunch10 votes

after the mage update malzahar had 56% winrate. zyra was sitting somewhere like 54% winrate. vel koz is same as zyra. swain was at 55% winrate. anivia was at 53% winrate. fiddles was at almost 54% winrate.

i think after the mage update more than 5 mages where in the top 12 highest winrate

and a cpl of them were not tuned and had 45% winrate.

yeah remember that bullshit jungle malzahar. that was fun. solo dragon at level 2

Mage rework packed much less "punch". Most mages had their playstyle barely altered. Meanwhile new assassins got shifted 180% from their point-click-burst pattern. Some pretty straightforward champions got turned into actual mechanical nightmares. It is obvious that assassin playerbase needs more time to adjust. New Malz playes pretty much like the old one, new Kat is very different from the old. Itemization changes were also much more pronounced in the assassin rework.

If there is anything concerning about well being of the assassins, it's not their state, IMO it's state of new support itemization. Bursting through item 3109 and item 3190 seems undoable.

dragon1xx1 votes

Ah yes, but these new items make support somewhat interesting and fun again.

New changes mean people aren't used to it plus new people playing said champions. This happens all the time.

Look at Rengar and Fizz, those 2 are actually pretty good. Shaco is now an AP assassin and annoying as hell.

Shaco does? Really?

I thought Shaco would be at the 45% or lower mark right about now. Interesting. Just wait until more people start playing them in flex queue (as most sites determine those win rate stats based on ranked queues). Most of the time the sites that use winrates are from plat+ so just keep that in mind also :)

i will say that. shaco damage is lower. however. the maxed Q is so good. that it makes him more like a fighter. and his animations are much better and he feels better. his E does less damage if they are full. and about the same when low. but they cleaned out some bugs and i played him and i think he can be annoying. he isn't the ignite and run down the enemy jungler at level 1. but hes better mid and late game he doesn't fall off as bad.

try building gunblade on him now and maybe going deathfire touch instead of tld. dft damage is a nice for executing with E.

Illuminati traps are busted. If the clone is present, you just have to disengage the fight. If ambient AOE kills the clone, you lost teamfight, period.

Execution on 2shiv is cool too, but I feel that most of Shaco winrate comes from the fact that players don't know yet how to outplay the illuminati. I sure don't.

before you fill up your item slots pack a control ward for when the clone explodes so you can disable the boxes in a timely fashion. that or item 3364

i mean i'd be more worried about being near the clone when it explodes and nukes you. the boxes themselves aren't really that bad if they're all that hits you but if the clone bursts on top of you and you're in the middle of the triangle you're pretty fucked

Epicanian2 votes

Yeah, naturally. They are new, and it's gonna take some time for people to figure the new assassins out

Astôlfo2 votes

I wonder why the Assassin Gutting smashed their winrates. How weird.

dominusx1 votes

well what do you expect? Assasins need to get a lead to be usefull. it's not like half of the gay tanks in the game atm who buy 1-2 cheap items and become immortal and can duel most in the game. But noo let's not nerf tanks because a few autists play ranged toplaners and can bully them around around

I think rework made Talon somewhat worse honestly, not in terms of gameplay but in terms of actual gameplay team fighting power. His kit is fun to use and very intuitive overall as well as rewarding but I feel like Talon simply has too much of a window for counterplay.

None of the "new" assassins is exatly easy to play. Buffing the likes of LB or Katarina without giving people the chance to adjust first could easily end up disastrous.

...except Akali where every single change was an obvious nerf. Rito pls.

Enlegacy1 votes

Ok, let's not forget that Leblanc and Katarina are incredibly hard to play now when compared to before, along with Talon now having a not completely different, certainly somewhat more of a roaming playstyle. No idea why Rengar is lower, he seems just about the same. And for the mini reworks, I have no explanation there. Although if it is only 47%ish that probably just mostly means they are under tuned a little.

Khazix should have a way higher win rate considering how fast his jungle clear ans objective control with the new evolve Q is, people just need to figure things out.

TeemoXNidalee1 votes

Yes Shaco isn't as bad as I thought after playing him a few times. You can't 1shot anymore with Q, but if jungling just build adc and you can 3hit kill squishies. Red smite warrior -> Tiamat -> phantom dancer and you can solo anyone

Final build example: item 1412 item 3046 item 3074 item 3508 item 3031 item 3006 You also get max cdr with this build and your clone has enough dps to kill squishy enemies in teamfights late game, so you can just Q in, R and order the clone to attack the adc/mid etc and the enemy team will focus it, when the clone explodes you can finish your target.

For AP Shaco: Gunblade isn't that good and nashor's tooth is better than lichbane as it increases clone dps and tower pushing (ap shaco's clone deal a lot of damage to towers because of ap mechanics). Maxing cdr with morello -> nashor's is a must then swarm the map with boxes for control, rylai is good as boxes apply it. Teamfights just Q in the middle then ult, finish someone with dagger/autos.

I thought Shaco was supposed to have been totally dumpstered, at least according to Boards and Shaclone. Good to see that's not the case.

As for the rest, this update is a rework, not a rebalance. If assassins are weak, which was also the feedback on PBE, they can be buffed, and the point of their update is that they can be buffed more easily without going nuts. This is also ignoring the initial learning curve that comes with every champion release or rework. Remember when Gnar was thought to be hopelessly weak on release? What about Tahm Kench, or Bard, or new Sion? All of these were champions who were thought to be weak and therefore irredeemable forever, yet eventually found their way into the game once people became accustomed to their quirks. Assassins are different now, and play a bit differently, and just because they aren't dominating the game now doesn't mean their update failed.

I'm surprised tbh, cause Shaco rework was simply gutting the living shit out of this champion

I'm also surprised Rengar has lower winrate considering he simply evoprates enemies in even 2v1 scenarios...

Is Lolking busted or what?

MunchCrunchLunch1 votes

nah the problem is assassins are still god awful in team fights and the rework was supposed to make them less instagibby in 1v1s and early game and make them a little stronger late game and in team fights and that didn't work out
