Riot's Reasoning for PD Changes is Downright Laughable

So, in case you missed it in the patch notes, here is how they're trying to justify the existence of a crit version of Sterak's Gage. "Existing defensive options for crit marksmen (Maw of Malmortius, Guardian Angel, Mercurial Scimitar) set users far enough behind on core damage builds that they can't contribute carry-level damage in fights even though they're living longer."

Basically, Riot is saying that when ADCs build one of the current defensive options, they live longer at the cost of dealing less damage, and that the point of this PD rework is to allow ADCs to have the same level of survivability while not losing any damage. So, I mean, when can Zed Talon get a Lifeline item that gives AD+Lethality? When can Katarina Diana get some magic pen on item 3157 ? If we're giving ADC a defense item that doesn't get in the way of them critting our faces off, then we all deserve to have some defensive options that doesn't gimp our damage at all, right????

Or is this just ADCs getting spoon fed game-winning advantages once again, for no reason other than the fact that Meddler is a Gold AD main?

Let's not compare magic pen to armor pen. Magic pen is far far stronger then armor pen, which is why its significantly harder to build.

Why is magic pen stronger? Look at base stats.

Ranged champions tend to get significantly higher armor per level, as compared to MR per level. A few seasons ago, they didn't even get any MR per level.

If magic pen was made as easy to buy as armor pen, we would see mages doing true damage to every ranged champion that doesn't have an MR item.

building PD still makes them lose damage btw, lower Attack speed, no energise passive or AOE crits.

Im okay with it, pd gives a shield? What do shields block? True damage.

What is true damage supposed to counter? Literally anyone who builds resistances.

Adcs SHOULD have an easily accessible counter to true damage, even if its limited.

Especially considering most true damage dealers apply true damage consistently (vayne and yi) or use their true damage to execute (darius and cho and I guess vel and camille)

When do we use ignite most of the time? When you intend to finish off the enemy. (I guess there are a few instances where you just don't want them healing

Even if its just 2 seconds its very likely the pd user`s shield would block true damage despite needing to be so low for it to proc.

A lot more fair than the pd user getting constant damage reduction as if they were supposed to be a tank.

The only potential problem I can think of this causing is a champ like Kled building crit now that crit is better earlier and pd can consistently give him a better chance at remounting.

Okay first of all. Zhonyas gives AP and CDR which is objective damage. Theyre arguing Hexdrinkers MR+AD isn't enough damage and CDR doesn't contribute much for most ADCs. PD was already the best Zeal upgrade for anyone not named Ashe though so it didn't need changed ... or the changes make it less 'perfect' and healthier. Depends on perspective i

Agreed.

If you want ADCs to build defensive items and still do damage, make changes to the existing ones that are too lackluster.

Like that time Mercurial Scimitar just lost 15 damage for no reason.

I have mixed feelings about this post.

I HATE the Phantom Dancer changes because this item has literally been a dualist item since season 1 back when PD and Ninja Tabi's were the two main sources of Dodge chance and it is very obviously not in any way, shape, or form a dualist item anymore: and it hurts all the champions who had formerly relied on it (In example Yasuo, Tynd, Lucian when he goes crit, Ashe, Draven, Kalista, Vayne, Kindred, etc).

After this it's not like ADC's are the best class in the game anymore. They're probably the 4th or 5th best class in the game so they can use the help. But this isn't even that helpful to ADC's. It's legitimately the worst crit item in the game. Basically the only reason you buy this item is if the enemy team has an assassin or other kind of burst or hard engage champion: and even then it doesn't feel good. This item considerably lowers you DPS and the shield isn't even that good until late game.

FYI there was no defensive item outside of GA for ADCs. Now they finally have one.

Every assassin item has some defensive utility already. :/ and mages have items that give defensive utility.

Have you seen how lackluster literally every adc but Lucian and Ez have been up to this patch? They've been incredibly frail, and so getting some way of avoiding dying instantly in teamfights is a welcome change.
