Taliyah 34.31% Win Rate, clearly means she sucks... right?

I know this isn't the most impressive match history for a champion, but yeah, Taliyah does not suck. Every single one of these matches that I played, someone said, "Taliyah sucks right now. Why use her?"

See, people don't seem to understand that the win rate does not mean everything. Remember when Yasuo first came out? He had a 37% win rate. Why? Because no one knew how to play him. No one knew what items to use, everyone was experimenting in various things and therefore, his win rate plummeted. However, Riot thought that this meant that he was too weak and buffed him, several times. Then... people learned how to play him. Then he became unstoppable. His win rate and his ban rate skyrocketed into the stratosphere.

This is something I'm afraid of happening to Taliyah. She is not a bad champion at all. If someone doesn't know how her kit works and they just walk around trying to harass with her Q about a million times, they're gonna create more little pits, until the entire lane is covered. Then they're screwed for a good 2-3 minutes. However, if used correctly, her Q is a dangerous move.

And her ult. My god her ultimate. Watching the enemy burn flash, only to get pinned into a corner because of your ultimate, feels so good and feels so evil.

I'm afraid that if her win rate doesn't change for the better, Riot is going to mistake it for her being too weak, and they're going to buff her.

She really, really doesn't need a buff. And I'm afraid it's gonna be Yasuo all over again!

Taliyah actually does have some problems that keep her from being good, her W has a very large delay making it very inconsistent to hit vs people who are paying attention unless they are already CC'd and you can't cast anything else during the animation, E is very short range and the Q damage can be inconsistent as well since in team fights you end up creating quite a bit of worked ground after a bit. Her ult is a utility ult, so it's going to very situational whether it's effective in fights. Doesn't mean you can't win with her, but as a control mage with no escapes and a relatively short effective range she has some pretty exploitable weaknesses.

The passive is pretty fun though.

Her passive is completely out of place with her kit. Maybe if it worked while in combat it could be useful but as it is it's just a minor convenience that consequently sucks up some of her power budget.

It's a decent roaming tool, non combat passives are always kind of awkward though. I was mostly just commenting on how it's a pretty satisfying ability, I actually debate whether I want to attack something sometimes while playing her because I would need to wait for the cooldown to start rock surfing again.

It just feels out of place with her kit. Everything else in her kit says "Zone control" but her passive is a situational speed boost. If she had a kit that was all about the wave clear then I could see her being a kind of mage split pusher than roams around everywhere to clear waves, if she was like TF with single target lock down and burst then it would be good for roaming and getting picks.

But instead she's a zone control mage with a passive that doesn't even work while in combat. I'd rather it even be a stat passive where she gains AP equal to 30% of her armor. Then it'd at least fit thematically with a lot of other earth/rock champs and it would make sense like, "Okay so I build armor and AP so I can be a tanky zone control mage that initiates fights with my ult".

I bet if there wasn't a special animation for the passive with her surfing and it was just her moving faster then people wouldn't find it nearly as fun. It just doesn't make sense.

There's only one armor/AP item in the game though so that kind of limits how well that would work, Vlad and Galio have a lot easier time finding items with a lot of passive synergy since there are a few items that give both stats they're looking for. I think one of the weaker parts of her kit is the E, it's super short range and doesn't really provide much protection, no immediate hard CC and only a very small reward for comboing it with her W, way too small for how difficult that can be to set up.

I was more thinking she could build tanky while still getting AP, not that she'd be able to double dip on stats she wants with armor/ap items (And you actually forgot about item 3050 ).

Vesarixx1 votes

Oh yeah, I always forget that item has any AP, I wouldn't really want to lose the current passive though, even though it isn't a combat passive it's still pretty cool. I've been sort of theory crafting with Taliyah recently and I think she might be best played as sort of a macro control champion, her wave clear is getting buffed next patch, and her Q worked ground is having the duration reduced. With a survival/utility build she could be really good for stalling out mid and also denying roams by her opponent by always being there when they try to roam. Gonna test this out a bit.

Mid thirtys is generally acceptable for new champions. Low 40's on release puts champions into reksai range and mid 40's puts them into ekko range.

Good point!

She is a little weak imo. You literally have to get item 3116 and her abilities are a little clunky but deadly if done right. What I hate is that her Q animation prevents you from using her W and E for like 1 second. Her W is hard to use like victor laser. But she has a lot of potential sustain damage from her Q.

I just wish I could play more right now so I could get her. Had a blast with her on the PBE, even with the small amount of times I played her.

Try out this build if you want: Rylai's, Morrelo, Abyssal, Zhonya's, Liandry's, Sorc boots. 45% CDR, kiting galore, and some good durability too. It is a bit low on damage compared to a full AP build, but it can be made up with with blue elixir and blue buff.

Your Q is up every 2.2 seconds, and your E has a .4 second downtime

Yasuo had a low win rate on release because his q e was bugged

No but really, if anything you claimed about the champion was actually true she would have higher than a 34% winrate. This isn't the first new champion release. It is how ever the first on to get this low since Syndra. Champ needs a buff.

No one knew how to play as them, if i recall the exact opposite is argued every time a champion comes out strong. So does everyone just know the perfect counter play to her already?

All I was basically bringing out that just reading the win rate and not knowing why the win rate was so low and just making a judgment that "oh, this champ sucks."

Yes, sometimes there is a situation where a champion is just... bad. I don't think that Taliyah is a bad champion.

The buffs currently on pbe don't seem overreacting imo. 10 mana cost reduction on q and 180 seconds-->140 seconds cd on q zone.

Her W delay is too long to be effective, and in my opinion her ult should do damage. Your launching a rock wall at people for crying out loud. Other then that she's an all right support.

Just throwing my two cents in ;P

people with new champs do a lot of experimenting resulting in a lot of losses. So her win probly be more like 44% once people find what role and build/playstyle is best for her. Which is still not super high though.

When Yasuo came out, people were playing as a bruiser/tank with bruiser/tank items, 'nuff said.
