Would prefer to have a new PvE mode, or some of the other RGMs we had in the past.. oh well, wont get to experience them for a while now..

would prefer they make ANYTHING permanent.

Most of the time my only option for a "fun" mode is... aram. Ugh.

I don't think that would work for the long run. The good memory comes from the few times we actually had it, where it was a nice change to the stale SR and Aram games we have all the time. After a longer time the game mode becomes less and less "fresh"; you could see it with the last urf and Nexus Blitz. But we haven't had anything for a while now, urf was there for months I believe. It's time for something else. Not Autochess though, if I'd want to play that, I could play Dota 2. The Odyssey event was the best they ever released IMO.

RavenMagus2 votes

The reason it won't work is because they only offer one thing at a time, and it's the only alternative to an already stale mode, so it runs out really quick.

Even before the explosion of custom arcade in Dota, there were plenty of awesome playable side modes like AR deathmatch or ability draft. They were always open and you could just about always find a game of them.

Maybe it's just a sign that League's player base is simply not large enough to support having fun things, but it sure would be nice if we could pick fun modes like that any time. It would stop them from growing stale.

If the RGM queues arent considering ranks, I wouldn't say it's a lack of players. I think the main problem for Riot is keeping all the different things updated. TT hasn't been touched since the rework. ARAM is getting balance patches every few years/months. They are just so focused on SR and producing reworks and new champs every 2-4 weeks who have to be balanced around 1 map already. They can't afford to keep another game mode up for longer than 1 or 2 months because god knows why. Can't be a lack of payment, I'm pretty sure.

IDK about you but I played NB quite a bit and I never, no seriously NEVER, had more than 40 second Queue time,(usually less than 10 sec) and dodges were much less common than SR.

You could tell the mode was popular because even content creators that usually never do non-SR stuff were throwing the odd NB video in there(i mean even on YT not just twitch game with the viewers)

It's true. But I would say the reason for that is, because NB was something entirely new. What I meant with Urf was, that we've had urf annually. So, over the course of the event, the gamemode becomes less and less "fresh". Especially since we had it multiple times before, so it won't statisfy the needs of variety anymore.

It's Tencent now - Rito sold out years ago.

And you know how these Chinese are with regard to copyright laws.

Tencent can’t really make decisions for Riots. I think it’s a term of their acquisition agreement.

And it’s sarcastic that the original DotA Auto chess was also made by Chinese people.

Sõna2 votes

they have never created original idea even Teemo itself.

It's nice we are getting more content, but they took auto chess, and said let us monetize this by making cute little characters. Be nice if they took the effort they put in this, and come up with some other game modes. Granted it wasn't a ton of effort, but still.

what exactly is auto-chess? it seems like you move champions and they do all the fighting, it sounds like you do barely anything

That's pretty much it. In Dota 2 Its a rock, paper, scissors kinda thing. Strength heroes beats agility heroes, agility beats intelligence and intelligence beats strength. You have to balance your team with assortments of heroes. Each round a random assortment of heroes will be available. You can pay to "reroll" them so you can find what hero for your team. You fight ai controlled enemies for the first few waves, getting gold and experience and grind your heroes and give them items. After a few waves, you then fight other people for 1-2 waves and then back to grinding again.
That's all I can remember from watching 1 auto chess video so don't count my word on it.

I looked up autochess in dota 2 that you mentioned and honestly it looks boring to me, you improve heroes, you recruit them but when it comes to the fighting it all happens automatically, looks like a sportsmanager game to me where all you do is get a good team together and everything happens on it's own, won't be playing this.

So Riot is basically making a copy of a mod... for it's own game... and trying to pass it off as a new game mode- Why not just Give us a Community workshop, the players could literally do this kind of thing for you and probably do it better.

That's the real sadness of this new client - even with a supposedly open-source code language (Chromium), they have locked everything down with proprietary file formats.

I'm talking about custom login screens, skins, HUDs, VOs, champion splash arts...in many cases, the modding community is what has made a game both great or even kept it alive at all. And yet in this, they have actively sought to kill it off.

I mean the current Beta LoL client is written in Chromium, the same as the browser Chrome.

It was regarding modding etc. They got an open-source code, yet locks everything down behind their own file formats.

I played a bunch of Squadron TD on SC2 so I'm cautiously optimistic. If you go on a losing streak in the "real" game modes this is a fun alternative and these modes are pretty fun and addicting usually.

My main concern is the price of the avatars, 750 to get a default one and 490 for a small chance of upgrading the one you like (but you'll be way more likely to get something you don't want) is nuts. Fully upgrading the 6 launch avatars, assuming you buy them all at the randomized 490 discount, is 8820 RP which is ludicrous.

yeaaah i fear it will be an actual cheap shitty version of autochess that functions as a milking machine to rip off the hype instead of putting in the effort to make a high quality version of it considering how popular it is even among people who have no clue about dota i'd say this is a big chance riot is going to let go if they fuck up to promote league even further beyond SR and that's something they always wanted.

I was concerned about the avatars also what exactly are they cosmetic or do they affect ingame stuff

Naalith1 votes

From what I can tell they don't affect gameplay but they are the representation of you in the game. It's cosmetic only but the fact there's not another way to unlock them and it could cost you 8820 to upgrade the one you want is asinine.

Cheini3 votes

waaait.. soo this is supposed to be a strategy, yet.. depends on which champions you get once; and which your opponent has picked - leading to a perfect team comp model everyone would try to reach.. and the games would be like i win this time, yours is next?

if that's the case, i pass

CLG Rampage3 votes

Yeah, this won't last long. Unless it can get significantly more players than ARAM and keep those players, this will fall to the wayside just like TT. Hell, I wonder if it even makes it past the beta stage before being locked into the game mode abyss.

FSRER2 votes

If it is based on Leagues classes (Duelists, Divers, Juggernauts, Wardens etc) this should be a very exciting gamemode. If it is like Dota...it will be boring as heck.

Jerry SeinfeId2 votes

Little Legends will also join you on the Howling Abyss, where they'll cheer you on from the sidelines while you battle.

i was interested as autochess seems interesting but dota doesn't, but the lil legends initially put me off. but the idea of them being on aram is cool.

Total Violation2 votes

Wow, i can't wait to play this for 3 weeks before Riot locks it away forever, much like Invasion/Nexus Blitz/Overdrive and many other great game modes that SHOULD BE PERMANENT!

Ragnaveil2 votes

You mean Nexus Blitz and its random aidsy shit? Cuz man did I never have fun with that mode with either Veigar or Yi being shoved down my throat if they were not banned.

Rumpus1 votes

Both yi and veigar are manageable in anything that isn't urf... Blitz was a sped up version of SR which is what a lot of people like. Salty people will always gravitate to these seemingly unfair champions no matter how predictable they are or what game mode it is. That very same argument was used for every game mode before NB and probably after it.

Cheini2 votes

The thing is, that auto-chess does not need map maintenance like sr/tt/ha & the rotating modes.. save for card balance, ofc

Jeddy0172 votes

Yeah, this is getting a hard pass from me.

I can't wait to enjoy playing it until pros form a meta and remove all the fun.

I guess that's the sad irony of it all. Tencent claim they do not enforce the meta in any way, yet when the pros find something "broken" and begin to exploit it, it is being swiftly nerfed.

Over side man2 votes

For those unfamiliar to Auto Chess let me explain.

Basics:

  • There's 8 players, each player has their own chessboard (Battlefield).

  • Everyone starts with 1 gold and 1 gold heroes will be available for hire.

  • You can reroll if you don't like the heroes given to you.

  • You gain extra gold as every round goes, round 5 is the max for gold gained. (5 gold every round.) You also gain gold on win streaks and lose streaks. (Lose Streak meta lmao.)

  • The first 3 rounds are Ai grunts. They might even drop a item for you to give to your heroes.

  • After that round 5,10,15,20, etc are tougher enemy grunts.

  • In between your duelling a random player's team.

  • You can level up which allows you to add more heroes on the field and have higher chances for stronger heroes.

  • Heroes gain "mana" when they deal damage or receive damage.

  • You lose health based on how many of the enemy remains. (For example, four 1 star enemies survived the end, take 4 damage for losing.)

  • You can combine 3 of the same hero to make a stronger version of it. Combine three 2 star heroes to make a 3 star hero.

  • In Dota 2 Autochess: Classes: Assassins, Hunters, Warlocks, Druids, Knight, Warrior, Priest, Mech, Shaman, Demon Hunter and Mage. Races: Beasts, Humans, Elves, Demons, Orc, Ogre, Dragon, Dwarf, Elemental, Satyr, Troll, Undead, Naga, God, Goblins.

Advanced:

  • Each hero has a class trait, a race trait and a unique ability.

  • To activate unique trait you need to have the things you require. Multiples of 1 hero won't count as 2 uniques. They must not be duplicates.

  • For example, "If there's 2 unique goblins on the field, gain 5hp per second for 1 random ally hero." "Having 6 unique assassins gives 50% dodge chance for all assassins."

  • Positioning is key. You might place them in spots where it could give a advantage in a fight. Do it poorly and you might lose that 4 coin hunter at the start of the fight. (My biggest mistake in Autochess was losing my most important support character in the fight because the assassin got to her easily.)

  • Economy is super important, waste too much cash you will starve late game.

  • There's also a demand for a hero. This is the tricky part, imagine everybody wants to buy... Leona for example, only 15 Leonas exist in the deck. If everyone wants a Leona, it would be impossible to get Leona 3 stars. Someone would have to give up Leona by selling her or wait for someone who has Leona die.

  • There's RNG, but like poker it can be manipulated and predicted. (Pro AutoChess players keep track of which hero is the most bought and least bought.)

maembe2 votes

This sounds awesome. I still want Nexus Blitz back though.

TwitchInMyPants1 votes

If they make it good I'll play the fuck out of it

If they get beat out by the DotA 2 mod team who are making their own separate game that'd be hilarious, LoL has way more resources to make this thing great

Kai Guy2 votes

There are some great mod teams. Xcom Long war 2 for example is a huge effort.

Jeanne fan club1 votes

Hopefully this doesn't kill league since Dota autochess kind of killed dota 2.

Zerenza2 votes

Don't worry, it'll probably only be available for a few weeks at a time to ensure that people don't play it more than ranked or normals SR.
