Banshee should be against Champions Only

Being attacked by dragon which destroys banshee shield does not make any sense. I thought the item is against Champion not Monsters and Minions. This Completely destroys its purpose - to Block Enemy Champion' Spell

As arbiteroftruth stated, dragons attack is a spell, not an auto. This was because panth could solo it after blue buff. This is the same reason why jax cant block the auto.

It shouldnt stop banshees, though.

Couldn't this be resolved by simply;

  • Making Dragon's attack an auto attack.
  • Increasing Dragon's attack speed by 100%
  • Decreasing Dragon's AD by 50%
doiminat0r36004 votes

No because Jax would still be able to dodge and Panth would still be able to block it.

Literally the entire reason the comment was made was to say it was to prevent certain champions from blocking autos. Your only real point was to make it an auto attack.

Eedat1 votes

It wouldnt affect Jax but it would fix Panth. The increased attack rate would be much too fast for him to stack his passive. Before the change (at dragons current attack speed) its just barely possible for him to stack his passive factoring in his attack speed and the CD on his E. The increased attack speed would make it impossible for him to have his passive up every time.

Panth isnt the only problem. Jax is a problem as well. It isnt very healthy to be able to solo drag at level 3 period.

Can't wait till they do something about Malz soloing drag at level 3...

Aatrox can solo dragon at level 4.

Lots of heroes can solo drag at level 3.... Weird how it's not a problem. You give up a ton of map pressure doing it and it's really risky.

Aheadatime1 votes

Er. Along with making it an auto attack, my point was to increase it's attack speed. Panth can only block autos so often. If the attack speed on dragon is high enough, the % of damage he mitigates is lowered. Same with Jax, as his dodge is on CD. The more autos that hit him while its on CD, the less damage he mitigates.

doiminat0r36001 votes

Just because you increase it's attack speed doesn't mean Jax can't still do it. It only solves part of the problem. Malz can do it easily if it's not infernal or mountain.

If a team is just pure magic with 1 attack damage character i get both spirit visage and banshees

Alüe2 votes

i don't bother the reduction in ap damage combined with health from other items out weighs the use of 1 spell imo.

I don't think that's the case any longer. Banshees is 500 gold cheaper, gives 15 more MR in exchange for no CDR and 200 less HP. I think the trade offs are actually pretty good, especially if you aren't going to make use of the 25% increased healing spirit visage gives. Sure it works on base hp regen but I'd honestly rather pick up an early banshees at this point. It's recipe is nice, it's cheap and it's passive is still decent.!

Hey HateDaddy. Question.

I've been buying a banshee with the intent to sell it if a game drags out (due to its low price and bad late-game slot efficiency.

Is this a valid strategy on non-tanks? (Fall behind, buy banshee, get ahead, get to full build and sell banshee for 6th damage item).

Hp regen isnt a super useful thing late mid - late game anyway unless you're specifically building for it.

Support Evelynn11 votes

No it makes perfect sense. It makes it more risky for the team doing the objective.

MrryZ3 votes

Not sure why you're getting downvoted I think it's a good way to increase the risk of dragon. A team shouldn't get a free dragon because the other team can't engage due to them having banshees up.

ArbiterOfTruth5 votes

It was originally an attack and people were abusing Panth's passive to get really early dragon kills so they changed it to a spell to get around his shield.

General Esdeath 5 votes

Dragon auto attacks are coded as spells so Pantheon can't solo it

Lirik7 votes

Riot's Spaghetti code ! [slayer-pantheon-popcorn]

General Esdeath 1 votes

How?

I was Lupxel3 votes

Riot couldn't make Pantheon passive not be affected by Dragon, so instead they made Dragon attacks spells; leading to that problem

IntakiNine2 votes

That's not spaghetti code, that's just working within the parameters of an established system.

PB4UAME1 votes

Its spaghetti code, but only loosely. Any time you have to work around the simple or obvious solution, and it negatively or non-intuitively affects other situations based on how you coded it-- that's what spaghetti code is.

ForeverLaxx7 votes

"Spaghetti code" is just the playerbase's catch-all term for things that they think don't make sense, despite the fact that a spell acting like a spell is doing everything as expected.

The reason that dragon and baron attacks are counted as spells was because of how pantheon was able to solo dragon extremely early.

I miss when it had a 20 second cooldown, that was actually useful back then in season 1 & 2. Then they nerfed it because 'champions didn't have spam-able abilities to pierce it'. Now look at the champion pool being played, spam-able abilities everywhere! Yet no veil revert.

DREADN0UGHT1 votes

The problem with the 20 second cooldown was that it could be abused to countersiege. You technically could get 2 banshees within a single minion wave. So it gave alot of power to the defending team under their tower. Now the item kinda feels useless for countersieging. More of a teamfight-ready item.

ZT Xperimentor1 votes

It's always been a unique passive so that it cannot stack with itself, to avoid exactly that problem. Same thing with several other items; sunfire cape, bloodthirster, black cleaver, warmogs, ext. Several champions have low cooldown abilities now thanks to either reworks & the excessive cooldown reduction on items.

DREADN0UGHT1 votes

[zombie-brand-facepalm]

Sorry, I think i wasn't clear. Let me rephrase.

''You technically could get 2 banshees within a single minion wave''

I did not mean that in the literal way, I meant that with a 20 second cooldown, you could technically get the shield twice within a single wave. Since minion waves spawn every 30 seconds. Which meant that with one minion wave sieging, the defending team could avoid alot of diving.

Sorry I wasn't too clear haha

EDIT: And iirc, I think that is exactly why Riot made the cooldown longer. I think it was in the tl;dr in patch notes.

ZT Xperimentor1 votes

Ohh I gotcha, yeah I wasn't thinking particularly clearly myself since I was waiting on dinner to finish cooking.

Granted, it would still be useless against spam reliant champions such as ezreal & zed; but it would be significantly more helpful against the all-in styles like vi & vayne. But with it's cooldown being nearly as long as the average respawn timer, it feels like just a bundle of stats since burst damage is often quickly accessible.

Tuning it between the original & changed timers I'd think would be a more fair trade off in the long run; something like 30sec. As there's still a few champions played that have lengthy times of being unable to fight while waiting for cooldowns or combos.

DREADN0UGHT2 votes

I agree that 30 seconds would seem like a reasonable cooldown. Idk why rito hasn't done it.

ZT Xperimentor1 votes

There's plenty of things that they could do to make the game more enjoyable & balanced; but they gotta make it over-exciting for no better reason than greed.

GawnMower1 votes

Its probably back when pantheon could take dragon at lvl 1 without taking any(if you were V.good)/hardley any damage with the correct runepage. so i imagine they changed its attack to be an ability cast rather than a basic attack in order to stop the interaction with his passive
