Thoughts on Garen's laning strategies
Most of Garen's opponents have conditions to get big bonus damage
hit vitals
- stand in Q/ crash in to wall
- get 3 stacks of lightning debuff
- stay in range
- hit sweet spots
- Drag the spirit sword through opponents
doesn't have conditions to do bonus damage( outside of attacking the villian), but he does get alot of built in power at lvl 11
So maybe it's best to either try to play around the opponents mechanics or just farm safely and get what cs you can while soaking up as much xp as possible and taking advantage of jungle ganks.
On the head to head route
- Garen's lack of mobility makes it often difficult to play around opponents mechanics
- Garen's Q has a delay, allowing his opponent to often be able to squeeze out an attack or ability right before the silence lands if they see it coming and trade equally or greater during laning phase -Garen's E is solidly gated behind levels, so his all in will often be lacking compared to his opponent's early on.
On the passive route
- Some champs do outscale garen and need to be contested
- The enemy top laner will be free to roam and cause havoc
- Lots of cs tends to be lost under tower due to garen's poor last hitting and long spell cooldowns
These are just some thoughts. I'm still new to the champ so I could just be doing it wrong and he's actually a major lane bully that wins 80 percent of lane match ups as some youtubers claim.
