So.. Can we give Yi some counterplay by considering his alpha strike as a dash?

ShadowParker··13 votes·2,288 views

If we consider his alpha strike a dash we can counter it with abilities such as Poppy w or Taliyah e. On top of that, tethers(karma, lb, fiddle) would be more effective.

We can better balance him if we do something like this.

What compensation buffs would you give him?

ShadowParker2 votes

Depends on how hard it hits him. I imagine it wouldn't hit him very hard to be honest though.

AgeOfTheMage7 votes

Yeah, being invulnerable every few seconds isn't something i like to fight against.

MissingKayo7 votes

Or you can just CC him after he uses Q and stop crying about balancing a champion who's trash-tier.

CC him? Only if he hasn't killed you in the next 3 seconds

MissingKayo7 votes

So CC him first lmao. He dies in half a second once you CC him.

Alpha strikes right as it's about to hit....got any other ideas?

MissingKayo2 votes

So then CC him after he comes out of Q.

Or does your entire team only have 1 CC ability?

Once he's outta Q you're likely almost dead already

MissingKayo2 votes

? You CC him the second he gets near. He Qs. You CC again. He's dead, you're not. There goes pretty much one of the only people that can probably bumrush or surprise jump you.

your CC to stop him is on cooldown after he dodges the first one, you're dead.

??? So then your teammate would CC him instead. Duh?

And what if their only cc is a slow? How do you get Yi CC'd then? (Most don't silence/stun/snare unless they're supp)

MissingKayo2 votes

? You only have one hard CC on your entire team? Then that's your entire team's fault for making a bad composition. You should always have at least a few sources of hard CC across a few champions regardless if someone like Yi is on the other team.

If you only had 1 hard cc on your team, you deserve to lose for being a moron

Not every champ has CC, besides, why make a champ that likely forces you to not play the ones you like? There needs to be an ACTUAL counter to him

Spicy Rice1 votes

There is, its called killing him, as he is one of the squishiest fuckers in the game.

If you don't want to use it, so be it, but don't clutter the boards with this nonsense. Some of us are actually trying to balance the game

Mig891 votes

Yeah this is harsh but true. If yi kills you with a q and an auto or two then he was squishy enough to be blown up in a half second window for a stun or snare. People want to complainn about a champ who is balanced around just being a damage threat.

ShadowParker2 votes

Or we could implement my idea and give him some compensation buffs

MissingKayo2 votes

Or you can stop complaining when his Q is perfectly fine and he doesn't need compensation in return for changing it to a dash which would completely trash the whole point of the move as well as Yi overall.

ShadowParker1 votes

Can you explain to me how it would trash yi?

MissingKayo2 votes

The whole point of it being untargetable is because he randomly zips between up to 4 different targets. The path is random. The resulting dash would also be random. The point of the Q is to use it to dodge skillshots or other key abilities Yi would not want to get hit by (some burst spell for instance, or some CC ability). If the dash is completely randomized, then his chances of dodging it are also completely randomized, and he will probably run into the projectile 99% of the time because of the fact he has to zip back and FORTH meaning he'd cross over both paths where the projectile would pass anyways.

The whole reason Yi is even semi-playable by onetricks in high ELO is because they one, pick him into low CC matchups (extremely rare), or two, can dodge pretty much perfectly with Q untargetability (despite its ten thousand and one bugs).

You're asking to make Yi completely fucking unusable if they have even a single ability out of all 5 champions on their entire team that he needs to dodge.

ShadowParker1 votes

Counting it as a dash doesn't mean that he'd still get hit by everything. Look at aatrox. His q is a dash but he still has a moment of untargetability. If you were make yi's alpha strike untargetable but still be considered a dash, he isn't affected by all the problems you outlined. All he'd be affected by are dash related counters(poppy w, Taliyah minefield).

I never said to allow yi to be hit during his q, I said for it to count as a dash. Calm yourself.

MissingKayo1 votes

Wrong. Aatrox does not have any untargetability in his Q. The jump up is just visual. Absolutely anything can hit him and almost any CC at all interrupts it.

You realize if it's a dash, projectiles and skillshots and other abilities can hit him during it, right? Which is completely retarded and trashes him because the whole fucking point is to use the Q to dodge it in the first place?

ShadowParker1 votes

No. He has a moment of untargetability by abilities. When he goes down and up he can be hit. It's a small window but it is a window. Also only knockups can interrupt his cc, not anything else.

Again. Not all dashes work that way. So calm down and stop with the unnecessary swearing. It doesn't help your case and just makes you look arrogant.

Anags1 votes

Dude, are you seriously suggesting another champ should be like Aatrox. He is the last champ you want to use as an example. Aatrox is so bad op.gg doesn't have enough statistics on him to even show a winrate because he is played so little.

Just stop...Yi is fine. There are so many other champs that are flat out stronger currently in this game.

Ultra Rapid Fyre5 votes

if youre not counter picking yi you deserve to lose. if youre playing blinds you have no place to bitch

Leaf on Bush3 votes

and rename it to beta strike?

EndlessSorcerer3 votes

On top of that, tethers(karma, lb, fiddle) would be more effective.

Untargetability doesn't remove attached tethers unless he leaves their range.

IIRC, Alpha Strike doesn't remove them.

Vlasec1 votes

Yeah, also the said tethers aren't very effective way of stopping Yi anyway:

  • Karma (similar for Nocturne) only stuns after two seconds which is enough for Yi to kill at least one if not two champs
  • Fiddle only does damage with it, but Yi usually has some lifesteal, so it is completely irrelevant
  • LeBlanc tether is a skillshot, making it hard to land on someone as Yi, also it takes about a second to snare anyone.
Ruin Lance3 votes

tethers still stay on him when he goes untargetable.

on another note, he already is balanced lmao

Asayake 5150glow2 votes

The only change I want is for it to not cancel auto attack commands.

Nothing is worse than right clicking on Yi to auto him, he Q's, and then you stand there doing nothing, or if you spam click, you clicked on the ground and are now walking, and if you miss, you walk instead of autoing.

That's why I hate Yi - yes his Q is really disorienting for skillshots and abilities, but it also fucks auto attackers because it CANCELS THEIR AUTO ATTACK COMMAND.

WitchQueen Annie2 votes

His counterplay is that if the team he's facing is not incompetent, he won't get ahead. And if he doesn't get ahead, he's an over glorified melee glass cannon that relies on perfect engage.

poppy has stun yi got untargetability

ShadowParker3 votes

I fail to see what point you're trying to make other than compare Apple's to oranges

SlashStriker2 votes

the point is that Poppy is top tier champions across all tiers and LCS pro pick Master Yi is not

Poppy kit is overwhelming while Yi's Kit is lackluster

Poppy Steadfast Presence gives 32% bonus movement speed on basic ability at level 1 Master Yi Ult gives him 20% movement speed at level 6

Master Yi suppose to be all around speed but poppy runs faster than him

Glîtchy1 votes

{quoted}

There's a big difference, Yi can kill you in like 2 seconds while Poppy just tanks and is very controlling of the situation, besides, you only get stunned if she slams you into a wall

Darth West1 votes

Master Yi is actually balanced compared to most champions.. As other people have said.. CC him. If he Alpha Strikes your CC then I'm sorry but you plain out got out played no matter how cheap you think it was.

MissingKayo2 votes

Or just make him dodge it with Q, then hit him with a second. There's no reason an entire team should have only 1 CC ability.

Darth West1 votes

You make a good point, sadly people rather ignore your advice and try to dumpster a champion who's already fairly balanced.

Hallbuster1 votes

By the time you cc him, half of your team is already dead. And if I'm not mistaken stuns and slows don't seem to negate his q.

Mig891 votes

Slows dont work during his ulti but every form of cc aside from that does. People make the mistake of either throwing the cc too soon or too late and miss due to his movement speed/alpha activation

VoraciousX1 votes

Alpha strike removes anything like that if timed correctly. Think of it like Shaco ult.if you do it at the right time you can remove tethers, avoid skillshots and even auto attacks. Also Yi can alpha strike a lot late game. If he makes it to late game you're donezo unless you somehow get a good team fight without him killing a single person. Also you guys know he's gonna be using new GA which means he will have more damage late game than he does now. There's your compensation buffs. Also Yi is no longer trash tier. In terms of pick and win rate he's in the top 5 junglers.

Vlasec1 votes

I think I just start banning that stupid champ. There is counterplay against him, but only a little. It depends on reaction times and prediction of players if he can get stunned by a skillshot or AoE stun or he disappears into the air. Since he can use the Q multiple times, he can dodge more stuns than a Fizz would, making him one of the most slippery champions (Olaf can ignore stuns, but hey, he doesn't run at ridiculous speed using just ult and he doesn't have dash in his skill set either).

The original solution to champs like that was a targeted stun. But Riot seems to be removing those one by one in reworks. There is still Fiddle's fear - it makes enemy slowly walk away in fear (but Yi cannot be slowed in ult, so he runs super fast, hehe), and there are some melee champs who have a targeted stun in melee range (e.g. Irelia if she's lower on HP than Yi), but in a typical scenario, a Yi that can dodge skillshot CC rather well by his Q is almost impossible to counter. Which is quite sad. A fed Yi can be worse menace than a fed Darius or a fed marksman. He just 3-shots you in 0.3 seconds and then leaps to someone else while making you throw your skillshot stuns into the air hitting nobody.

So I agree, Yi is damn annoying to play against unless his team loses hard enough because of is unwillingness to gank.
