Rest in peace Gangplank

Stinger Total Price reduced to 1100 from 1200 Attack speed lowered to 35% from 50% Now Builds into Trinity Force.

Trinity Force Now Builds out of Stinger instead of Zeal. Total price reduced to 3600 from 3800 Attack speed increased to 40% from 15% Cooldown reduction increased to 20% from 10% Critical Strike Chance reduced to 0 from 20% [Crit chance value display is messed up atm, in-game it gives 0%]

Yeah, I know this is meant to be a change so that champions like Irelia and Jax, but come on. Gangplank doesn't really even use the attack speed on the current Trinity Force, and now the only way to get a viable sheen proc is to go Iceborn Gauntlet. This also means that Nasus has less options, because this means he NEEDS to go IBG, as I've noticed, strangely enough, Nasus doesn't scale with Attack Speed either. I just don't like this change. GP might need compensation buffs if the New TF is bad on him. If any Rioters see this post, please try GP out with the new Trinity Force, because right now the current one is considered his 'first power spike', and the removal of that Crit chance could mean disasters in his build, especially since you're wasting so much gold on that unneeded attacks speed. Just the thoughts of a Dumbass Silver V Player, but please look into it.Gangplank item 3070 item 3078

Survived ship crash while his entire crew drowned and he assumed dead, and only nerfs since update. He can survive 20% crit nerf.

The problem isn't just that Triforce is getting nerfed for him. It's that he has literally no other good options for making up that lost crit chance.

The other semi-viable crit items that he could buy to compensate (static shiv and phantom dancer) give even MORE attack speed.

To add insult to injury, one of his only two remaining crit items (ER) will now overcap his CDR when combined with trinity. Resulting in even more wasted gold.

Yea the lack of crit on trinity force completely messes with GP's crit synergies, and yet his entire kit is balanced around proccing the sheen effect, while benefiting from crit, so he needs crit items and the trinity. GP will need help if they change goes through

As a GP onetrickpony, I'm quitting league if this nerf actually gets implemented. I really just can't stand Riot's overnerf s. They basically kill a champion. I a one-trick-pony style player who used to main Fiora, playing only Fiora for 100 games. Then, riot killed her. So I changed over to GP (after he got nerfed like 5 times, so I hoped there wasn't any major nerfs left for him). I played him for 100 games. Then this. Honestly, the overnerf patches make players like me have to entirely re-learn the game. I can do it for couple of times, but it becomes too much. I have a friend who used to main Ryze before it got reworked. Riot decreased the Ryze lv 1 Q damage to 60 from 90. He said ryze became unplayable and then quit the game. I never saw myself following his footsteps, but srsly, you really have to nerf triforce this way? When I'm playing a game where I know that my main champion can be killed any day, it's a terrible feeling.

If you only look to OTP top tier champs, don't be surprised when they get nerfed.

A real OTP would continue playing their main when it's trash tier.

sexdontsell1 votes

Why do you have to make a champ trash tier? Isn't preventing that the whole reason we have a balance team? And I didn't start playing GP when he was OP/permabanned. I played him after the 3-barrel nerf. That's when the toplane meta was dominated by tanks like ekko, maokai, and poppy.

WoonStruck2 votes

Why do they have to make a champ trash tier? Let's see, 2 champions take a significant nerf from this change....and...

Ezreal Corki Fiora Irelia Jayce Jax JarvanIV Nasus Skarner Udyr Vi XinZhao MonkeyKing...13 champions that used to at least uncommonly pick it up, and many more potential buyers, benefit more from this change than that 'nerf' detriments merely two champions.

Why should an item remain trash-tier so only 3 champions basically ever use it?

BluePolarizer2 votes

A real OTP plays their main when they aren't top tier LCS picks.

All those Lee Sin, Shaco, Fiddlesticks mains out there? they still played when Lee Sin, Shaco and Fiddlesticks sucked.

I kept playing Hecarim in January when he had a 45% win rate.

HotChilly1 votes

I feel what your saying, but saying lee sin has ever not been top tier sounds silly to me, that guy is always good. Maybe he was bad for like a month or two once I feel like I remember, and then they dumped a ton of % health damage into his kit because reasons

I prefer essence reaver on GP to be honest. Though it doesn't help him with durability.

Sahn Uzal8 votes

You never skip TF on GP, even IF you get an Essence reaver, you get both. GP's barrels apply TF's sheen effect as an AoE, it's an absolute core part of his damage output.

Problem was his build was both reaver and infinity. Now he just has 20 less crit.

Ralanr1 votes

That's where PD comes in.

kile1471 votes

He doesn't need the extra AS on Trinity, why would he need it from PD?

Ralanr2 votes

I get PD for more crit and the passive that comes along with it.

I'll admit I don't play GP all that much nowadays.

kile1471 votes

His barrel chain is where his true value lies, making AD much more valuable than AS on him. With that in mind the better bet was usually to get Trinity, ER, and IE for the crit and AD combination, then after that decide if you want to build a couple tank items for a high damage bruiser-ish build, or just keep getting more AD and be the team AD carry.

I'm by no means a GP main but that's the kind of builds that I had most success with and the ones that made the most numerical sense to me.

Ralanr1 votes

Ahh. That does make sense.

Personally if I ever get the budget for it, I like to get BT and Visage on him as well.

kile1471 votes

SV makes so much sense on him for a lot of reasons, so that's usually pretty core for my bruiser builds. I think DMP also procs as a melee off of his Q, making it pretty good as well.

Ralanr1 votes

As much as I use DMP on him for his armor item, I'm not the best at timing the use of the charges with his Q. I'll admit that when it comes to charge abilities that proc off of autoattacks, I'm not great at saving them.

It's on of the reasons that Poppy top is somewhat annoying for me to play as. I want to poke with my shield passive, but I feel I'll waste too much time setting up the shot.

kile1471 votes

So what you do is you put yourself in a position where you will be able to poke with your shield immediately after last hitting a minion with your melee, at which point you botch the timing and instead end up wasting the shield to point blank execute the minion then walk away in shame.

Ralanr1 votes

Yep...Poppy top is frustrating and makes me miss her JG.

Though once she gets a BC she becomes surprisingly powerful (I mean she can be very powerful, but I only built straight tank on her before the nerfs).

You get Essence Reaver with Trinity Force so your build will have 40% CDR with just an IE on top of them.

ER + IE + TF will still be 40% CDR after this change. TF losing 20% crit means 10% less CDR from ER, but TF itself gains an extra 10% CDR anyway so it evens out.

Honestly, if Gangplank misses that 20% crit THAT much, they could just give Parrrley an extra 20% chance to crit itself, but negatively modify its crits until max rank.

Q: Parrley

  • Now innately has a 20% chance to critically strike, but critical shots deal modified bonus damage.

Modified Critical Damage: 140 / 155 / 170 / 185 / 200%

In layman's terms, at max rank Parrrley functions the same as it does on live, but has the 20% crit chance that TF lost. The crit penalty at earlier ranks is just a concession for it being 'free' crit chance, like Shaco's Q. By level 9, you should have TF, so that'd leave GP more or less back where he is now. (Sure, he'd have 20% less crit chance on his basic attacks, but you're generally using Parrrley to detonate the kegs anyway. Besides which, if THAT turned out to be an issue as well, you could just lower Trial by Fire's cooldown or something.)

Point is, modifying Gangplank to accomodate for a TF change is easier than trying to modify the many champions who were saddened by losing the TF they liked to build.

ViashinoWizard2 votes

I mean, there isn't really ever a time where TriForce is the correct choice over IBG on Nasus anyway.

kile1472 votes

Really? Since my sheen item is my only offensive item I feel like it's worth it for the extra 100% base AD scaling on the trinity proc. It not only increases the synergy with sterak's, but it lets you reach important damage thresholds sooner (two shot/one shot carries).

I also like using the minion kill speed boost from phage to surprise my lane opponents and get into melee range. Sure you give up on wave clear but as Nasus your wave clear is really always limited by how fast you can get your Q off anyways.

ViashinoWizard1 votes

Really. Triforce is too expensive for too little defensive stats. You want to capitalize on your midgame as Nasus and Triforce delays that too long.

kile1471 votes

Hmm maybe I will try building IBG on Nasus instead next time then, though I doubt I will be able to capitalize on his midgame well enough to make it worth it for me.

ViashinoWizard1 votes

Basically you farm up to 250-300 stacks, get IBG, Spirit Visage and either Swifties or Merc Treads, then push push push while having TP ready for teamfights or big skirmishes.

Nasus is strongest midgame and mid-lategame. He starts to fall off in the late-lategame because everyone is finishing their builds and his weakness to kiting and heavy focus-fire becomes more relevant when the game starts revolving around 5v5 teamfights. Even then, though, he can still push incredibly hard with his Q, E, and a Zz'Rot.

Vistha Kai2 votes

I'd rather have Irelia nerfed, not buffed.

I mean, unless you gang her with 2+ people, she negates any counter with half an item, due to the nature of her kit.

Ultîma2 votes

As a Platinum IV dumbass with about 180k mastery points on GP, this a more of a shift of power than a straight up nerf. Yes, it will take him longer (and more itemization) to reach 60%+ crit, but he gets more immediate CDR early on, allowing him to use barrels more effectively in lane and during the mid-game. His upfront burst will suffer, but he'll be able to apply more overall lane pressure and take tower more easily. I think this might even encourage people to build more crit-intensive options on GP rather than ER since hitting the CDR cap earlier might make it a less gold-efficient/attractive purchase.

kile1472 votes

Maybe we will see 10% CDR from masteries and lucidity boots come back on him.

sexdontsell1 votes

As another plat player with Lv 5 GP masteries on two accounts, I don't see how the attack speed on triforce can be considered as a shift of power. Attack speed on GP is completely useless. He's not the all-in champ like irelia or jax. Taking towers easily? You take towers when you WIN a lane. Taking off 20% crit for almost nothing (10% extra CDR which is unnecessary, and attack speed which means nothing to GP), I don't see how GP is going to be winning lanes at all.

Ultîma1 votes

I.... didn't mention attack speed in my post. The shift in power I mentioned stemmed from the loss of early crit for more early CDR. Imo more CDR -> More barrels -> More reliable lane pressure, passive resets and damage. Don't get me wrong, I understand that the removal of crit will hurt his overall burst damage, but there are certainly benefits to be found elsewhere.

GP'll be fine. He'd probably be fine building Iceborns then going into his usual build.

sexdontsell3 votes

Iceborn doesn't proc on GP's barrel. Iceborn makes you go over 40% CDR. It doesn't have any crit as well. No offence, but please don't write about champs you haven't even played.

I don't know what the OP was referencing regarding it harming Nasus. Nasus will benefit from the additional CDR on triforce and the lower cost. He doesn't need crit chance if he farmed well. I think this change opens up the item to being bought by more champs. I only build Tri-Force on Nasus if I am super ahead. Otherwise I build sheen early and build FH and SV. I usually build IBG later unless the match-up requires me to rush it. It probably hurts GP a bit, but there are plenty of other items he can build instead that are comparable.

Toastersaot1 votes

I'm saying that because you're wasting stats on the attack speed. And I said it just forces Nasus onto one Sheen option instead of two

I think Nasus players will still build both out of Sheen. Right now most are just building IBG, so it is not like Nasus players have two options at the moment. The lower cost and additional CDR will make them consider tri-force more than IBG.

This trinity force change hits hecarim pretty hard too. RIP pony :( Guess ill have to get IBG cause thats the only other viable option
