Why does Kha'Zix's W, Void Spikes, heal scale with AP?

I understand that once upon a time there were several ways that you might find yourself with a little bit of Ability Power from Runes, Masteries, or hybrid items like old Trinity Force, .. but now, .. there is really no good reason to have Ability Power on Kha'Zix unless you're building Hextech Gunblade, which already gives you sustain, .. or Guinsoo's Rageblade, which doesn't make much sense on Kha'Zix because he isn't a great on-hit champion.

So, ... why?

Should this be changed?

Or should this just be an odd ability that he has for no good reason?

Or, is there some obscure build that I'm missing out on? Is AP Kha'Zix actually a real thing?

It's a relic from a time when everyone had random AP scaling and riot encouraged off meta builds

Also probably had something to do with trinity force when it used to give AP. They had buffed rek's Q ap scaling because of it.

Right, I get that, but they have changed Rek'Sai's Q to scale on both.

At least with Rek'Sai, she did work well with on-hit builds. That at least gave her two uses of AP items.

Kha'Zix has nothing but his W.

So why hasn't it changed yet?

I would honestly be happy if they even changed it by adding something that scaled with AP.

Even if it was to buff his movement speed or his duration while in stealth from his ultimate.

I prefer when champions have unique characteristics based on the way they are built.

I think the real question is why does Kayn's heal scale with AD? It's a heal.

if that started to scale with AD we would have a Riven Passive and Shield like effect in which you would heal alot cause kha get 400+ ad so it will be negate the damage dealt and with a AD scale passive it would deal even more damage with his auto and it would refresh everytime he get out of sight. So it can get really more snowbally than he already is and may get him the azir/kalista/shaco nerfs.
If they replace the AP scale with HP scale then he will have the base damage from abilities plus the isolation bonus and then we would have a Tank khazix similar to tank fizz tank yasuo tank ekko and the recent one tank viktor.
If they get 3 infernal with baron and/or elder the bonus AP you get from baron would be wasted so champions like Kha and Noc and Shivana (Noc passive and Something in Shivana -i dont rememeber the patch and the exact reasoning RIot gave-got a 20 % AP ratio) . Plus the AP ratio is low so it wont become too high with 3 infernals+baron+elder ( NOTE that blue Buff used to give some AP too but that got removed- i dont remember the patch).

Because the damage from his W already scales 100% with bonus AD. Having his heal scale with AD would give him over 100% return for his ability. Would be incredibly strong for any Khazix hard committing to AD. So it’s assigned to AP so that there’s still an option for it to scale with something, but suboptimal at best. This is the same reason a lot of shields scale with AP on AD bruisers (poppy, j4) it’d just be too strong otherwise.

A lot of champs have random ad or ap scaling on abilities or passives. Ex: kat has a huge ad scaling on her q I believe. And the only ad she buys is generally from gunblade. Renekton has ap scaling on his ult instead of ad scaling. Is it logical? Probably not. Is it the end of the world? No.

It does mean there's the potential for an ap or hybrid kha build though. Gunblade, liandri's, abyssal, etc. and he is some weird ap/hybrid bruiser.
