hes talking about poppy being pick and pan, not one player's pocket pick.
That's it in a nutshell. Poppy getting picked occasionally doesn't worry us. Poppy as regularly played though, pick/ban especially, would be a problem. Because of that we've got a Poppy rework in progress, with one of the aims of that project being to make it so if Poppy's strong enough to get regular play that's fine, rather than something we feel compelled to deal with.
Are you happy with the thought of Poppy being changed into a yordle tank as opposed to a bursty champion? Doesn't that change her theme to much?
I do feel tank is a good fit for Poppy. She's a determined, honorable, warrior who wants to be right in the middle of the fight. Her signature gameplay traits are a hammer smash, charging someone into a wall and being extremely hard to kill, all of which can fit well with the tank class (think more Sion as a tank, than Braum as a tank).
Certainly, she's also got a lot of kill potential at present. Extremely hard to kill or CC, really burst champion with some mobility's not a good combo though, and it's only held in check at present since Poppy's early game is atrocious and she's kept a bit weak in general. Of the two sides of her we could focus on the tank/fighter side seems like a much better fit to me than the assassin/burst side.

Gonna be a bit of a black sheep here Meddler, but I gotta say I agree with you. I know you guys will do her right to make her a fair and balanced champion, as opposed to her current get ahead completely invalidate enemy adc/mid. Also looking forward to her visuals being updated... just keep the lolipoppy splash, plz :'(

I haven't dared ask what the plans for that are nightmarish creation are yet.
I think tank is wrong for her. If you check out her guides on solomid or lolking, a lot of them might have options to build tank, but you'll see plenty that encourage you to go either mostly AP or mostly AD. It'd not that she can't build tank, it's just that going tank for her is kind of weak and a lot of people like her as more of a bruiser or assassin.
Her 2 most common items are
. I'm sorry but I just don't see those two items as her most popular core items as being a tank. She's got a 77% winrate with IE. Yes it's rare on her, but yes it's that good on her too.
Statistically she's not played as a tank: http://www.lolking.net/champions/poppy http://champion.gg/champion/Poppy http://www.leagueofgraphs.com/champions/items/poppy
Frankly, as someone who plays poppy from time to time, you only really build tank if your team needs a tank and you are falling behind. She's just so much more fun and better if you are building heavy offense. I really wish you all would reconsider this.
So I have to ask, why does riot see her as a tank (in riot's definition of a tank) when it's plainly clear that a lot of her fans don't? Should you keep those players in mind first when it comes to the rework? A lot of the popular guides that I've read have her pegged as a hypercarry (yes there are some tank guides, but ATM she's like eve in that she can build towards what her team needs).
The thing is that, even though no one plays her like a tank, her kit sort of reads tank, or at least a confused fighter with tank in there. Her passive makes her pretty hard to burst down or kill in general and her ult gives her a lot of survivability and the ability to hang around in the middle of the fight, and in general that's the champion Riot wants her to be. And tank is the proper term for a fighter that does that. If her kit is updated, in keeping with her identity as a glowing ball of death in the middle of a fight, I agree they should give her more tank
That's the big problem. Thematically, yes she's supposed to take damage. Mechanically, which I feel is more important because this is a game, she's played as a damage dealer; the tank is just there to give her the time she needs to get to the carry in order to delete the carry.
Most assassins in the game either come in from the side, play clean up (katarina), or have some trick to get to the carry (leblanc). Poppy is the assassin that just charges straight in and chases the carry down.
I think she's a problem mainly because of thematics vs gameplay. This is the problem with ranged champs vs bruisers in LOL and it's been a problem for ages. Just ask Hashinshin. Melee champs need to have a way to get close to do their job. Poppy's way of getting in there to do her job has been speed plus ignoring damage/cc.
Her job though is an assassin/DD. That's why riot can't focus on tank.
I certainly look forward to the Poppy update.I hope it's as good as the Sion update.
I wish I had your optimism.
Between the VU team being great at times and terrible at others, and her being forced into the wrong role, I'm scared for this rework.
I do feel tank is a good fit for Poppy. She's a determined, honorable, warrior who wants to be right in the middle of the fight.
I'm taking this out of context for a reason, mainly thematic. Doesn't this seem more than a little stereotypical to you? That honorable people are only around to wear armor like good little meatshields and not do damage? I can't help but feel like the gaming world is a little prejudiced against paladins as if they were masochistic submissives who flagellate themselves as a hobby.
I mean look at all those martial arts films. How many of them featured honorable warriors in no armor walking around, determined as you can be, getting into the middle of a fight, and kicking a lot of butt with their hands and feet?
I'm with you that honorable and middle of the fight aren't the same thing. I'd describe both Ashe and Lee Sin as honorable in terms of personality for example, yet neither wants to be right in the midst of everything (Ashe wants to keep her distance, Lee Sin usually wants to be killing or ulting a prime target so spends more time around the edges waiting for his moment). In Poppy's case though I feel both honorable and middle of the fight do apply.

Why not just make her W give MS instead of AD/Armor, Passive give a Shield upon taking a certain level of damage, Q being more straightforward, and her R not remove her ability to be CC'd instead of drastically reworking her?
I'm not sure why you guys want to drastically change her instead of just adjusting the problem areas. Her kit as a whole functions and is heavily iconic. I don't see the issues with it beyond her passive and R making her immune to everything.
That's half of what I was going at as I included the tank part on purpose. It seems to me a lot of games (DnD 4e, WoW, etc) take the honorable role and equate that directly to soaking up damage as the only thing an honorable person does. While there's certainly a part of that in honorable behavior I feel like too many games go in the direction of if honorable then tank.
However if you look at real life tanks (tanks, calvary in the middle ages, battleships), yes they had heavy armor but they also had a ton of killing power. You needed armor to stand up to the other guy's big guns and you needed big guns to get through his armor. A calvary's armor wasn't meant for him to sit around and block for the archers, it was for him to be able to literally run over the opposing force's foot solders and devastate their lines. Mechanically the only game I've seen do that really was the original GW with their warrior class.
Here's a great example of an honorable person who lacked armor, got into the middle of a lot of fights, and was a deadly warrior: Obiwan Kanobi. He could go through drones and arms like no one's business.
So what I'm trying to get at is honorable shouldn't equate to being happy to sit back and take damage on one hand and in terms of Poppy show that her inclusion of tank is less because she's supposed to be a tank (see my other posts in this thread) and more about how she enables herself to do her role: hypercarrying/anti-carrying.
As myself and others have said, she's a hypercarry and I think that's what her players really want out of her. I just needed to bring this up because it was a moment where I could talk about my other pet peeve which is honorable people being forced into the meatshield role exclusively.
That's... really well said.
I'm going to argue and say poppy isn't exactly honorable. She doesn't fight for honor she fights cause she hates Noxus for killing her father. She shows no respect for her opponents and doesn't seem like the type to show mercy. sure she could be "Honored" by her city but. shes not the kind to not kick while her enemy is down. I fell like i would prefer he not be changed to another bland Demacian the only fights cause its right, keep her anger
I'm not sure if tank is the best fit. Fighter, certainly, I'd rather her be better in long engagements than her current 'burst someone during ult then GTFO' pattern and that's be better for the game, too, but I just feel a tank kit has too much disconnect with her current kit. Maybe it's just me, but 'tank' reads like 'brings a lot of CC and durability, only does enough damage to make people want to kill them' and I don't feel that Poppy should do 'enough' damage.
Wait, are we talking about Poppy being a full tank like Sion or a bruiser/fighter like Garen?
I think making her a Tank is too drastic and its 100% not what the fans want. I don't know anyone who wants to play her as a pure tank. I could understand why you guys would want to get rid of Poppy's assassin role but i still want to build damage on Poppy. She should be more of a bruiser like Jax.
It would be a shame that i could no longer build Trinity Force or Hextech on Poppy anymore. The core items every Poppy main got.
Do you have an ETA for Poppy rework? She is one of my favorite champions and I have been waiting for quite sometime for her rework, maybe I'll be good with the new poppy lol
Meddler sir, you're needed on the Vayne discussion.
Please keep her a hypercarry Please keep her a hypercarry Please keep her a hypercarry Please keep her a hypercarry
Poppy is a great example of how hyper carries should work. Her early game is awful, but if you play smart the reward is so worth it.
By the time it is Poppy's time to shine, you should already be on a spree against her. Like, every champ counters her in lane. She has 0 range and can't do anything but take all the abuse thrown at her
if poppy is turned in to tank i am most likely giving up on league of legends she should be buffed by making her e deal more dmg and maybe 0,5 sec more stun at final max and doesn't need to be nerfed or tuned in to a tank
when?
when?
Last time Poppy was played was yesterday.
That said, she's being reworked, screw nerfs.

i saw it but she sucked she is not in need of nerfs in my opinion

Clearly you haven't seen a poppy get 1 kill early - mid game, she goes from a meat shield, to a wall of spikes that runs at you at the speed of light and does stupid damage.
"Reworked", possibly on a Yorick-like timeline.
She's on the update schedule right after GP and MF, so I don't think it's that far off.

No, like they've already got the kit and stuff done. They're working on the models.
What's Poppy's Winrate? also, her early game was still trash.
Riot said that the only way they'll nerf Poppy is if someone can negate her abysmal early game.
There is a challenger high elo poppy main from EUW called Graceland. Not only does this poppy main absolutely punish toplane and jungle, he plays poppy as a support too, which sounds crazy I know but take a look on youtube and you will see how effective and capable she really can be. In this game vs a vlad a champion who can just zone you under a turret he still comes out on top and ends up thrashing him later on. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rxPKdrpCXcc
I wouldn't say she hasn't any impact early game either! Vs a melee champ 1v1 she can usually win with her passive trading with q or w stacks.
In the unicorns vs fnatic game, Fnatic closed the game out before poppy got her second item. Sry but poppy has no impact early game and LCS teams know how to abuse it so she doesn't work there.
I know its out of context. but anything about kassadin? i know he was picked just to counter azir in LCS but now he is going to be out of it completly after the azir nerfs. (as a pro pick azir counter, tho his theme should be anti mage as a whole--not just azir's) . and hes been at the bottom for quite some time.
