Skins have become worthless now. Especially legacy skins. You don't have the great "special" feel about owning a skin when you know anyone can easily get it for free.

I recently bought Elementalist Lux and even the enemy told me "Who buys skins anymore when there's hextech crafting?" Now you're just seen as an idiot for buying something that can be earned completely free.

It CAN be earned completely free, but that involves massive amounts of luck. "Who buys skins anymore when there's hextech crafting?" should be enough to tell you that you are insecure because that guy is an idiot and you use that statement as an argument, and hextech crafting CAN be more expensive than several skins.

My other point is that legacy skins got killed. Now they're worth less than non-legacy skins which is pretty sad for collectors.

Most legacy skins come back at every major event so they didn't really get killed. The legacy skins that are not available unless hextech crafting are still really rare. I mean there are what? like 600 - 700 skins in the game. Getting exactly the skin you want or just some random unavailable legacy skin is really unlikely. Besides there are also skins that you can never get again not even in hextech crafting. eg black alistar, pax tf etc.

Since when did spending money make you special?

It's just cosmetic, it's not a big deal. I've never seen anyone scoff at someone for buying an expensive skin. If they do, they're a dumbass.

That's why I put "" over it.

I have 2 elementalist lux skins sitting in my hextech crafting thing that will never get used because I can't play squishy champs. People buy skins because the chances of you actually getting a skin for one of your mains that you will use are very slim.

Basically; You don't feel special for having enough/more money to spend than players who didn't pay for the skin. Seems like kind of an elitist attitude tbh.

I mean i get were hes coming from wit legacy skins. The hextech crafting sorta kills the whole i was playin at this time point of it.

Sure, seems like a pretty valid point. But sometimes you have to look at it from the other side; Like if a brand new player sees a super cool retired skin and they think "fuck, i wish I could have got that skin." Is the "pride" held by the people who own that skin really worth the excitement and enthrallment of a new player getting really lucky and obtaining that skin?

In my opinion: No.

I think Riot wants players to be excited with their overall league experience, players getting that rush is what makes league fun and opening boxes with the chance of getting something rare is just something for players to look forward to, even if it means slightly "stepping on some toes" of "that one guy" who doesn't like the whole thing.

You do have to be extraordinarily lucky to get any particular skin though.

And most of 'em are just seasonal stuff. Not particularly that exclusive.

Dokkaebi1 votes

Yeah well if you use your hard worked money on something instead of getting it for completely free out of nowhere, I think you should feel more elite.

AbiwonKenabi2 votes

Yeah so many rich adults playing this free game that need to feel special.

Pretty sure the vast majority of League players are poor college kids. If not, they're high schoolers. Basically people who shouldn't spend too much money on this game.

Well I mean, there IS still a chance of getting shards that grants either duplicate skins or champion shards, so technically, it's not completely considered a "free self-Mystery Gifting".

Legacy skins were never "special", and anyone could easily get them at least once every year, if not two or three times. All Harrowing Legacy were available for Halloween, all Festive Legacy for Christmas, etc. etc.

Dokkaebi1 votes

They were still rare and had to be paid a price for.

DeathBurst2 votes

They ARE still rare even now. There are literally hundreds of skins in this game, and most aren't legacy. The odds of getting a Legacy Skin that you'll actually use in Hextech is very slim.

Not originally. Things like the World Cup skins and the first Harrowing (maybe the second as well) were limited, gone forever after their sales were done. After they introduced the Legacy scheme, then they became obtainable again. I have a couple skins that have a special watermark on them because I purchased them prior to the introduction of Legacy, Riot also refunded the RP spent on them, and got a nifty summoner icon.

And they are still "special" because they still have that watermark and were not Legacy. Hextech Crafting did nothing to diminish that.

Skins have always been worthless except for the limited skins.

the bulk of my legacy skins have been from lunar reveal and what not. offering me whistler village twitch? FINE, ill go buy some RP.

shamrock malphite was from a random mystery surprise from riot for being extra sportsman like. w/e never even play malphite anyway

the only legacy skin i own from hextech crafting is definitely not blitzcrank, by far the best reward ive gotten from crafting.

but i have several other legacy skins too but they were either made legacy at a later date or again, from reveal/sale.

and i honestly cant remember when i picked up hextech galio but its there, and i use it, always, but its been so long that it definitely was before crafting came out.

cant remember my underworld TF either =D so old.

I've gotten more legacy/legendary skins from mystery gifts than I probably ever will from crafting. I can think of maybe 2 skins I actually got the shard for and earned that I actually wanted. Half the time when you open a chest you get a Champion shard and the other half you get skin shards for a Champion you don't even own. And when you do get a shard you want, you hang onto it forever until you burn enough other skin shards to unlock it. Don't even get me started on the slow rate of keys dropping, especially if you aren't winning.

If you want a particular skin, the best way is to just buy it. Hextech Crafting is nice, don't get me wrong, but it's more of an occasional "hey thanks for playing! Here's a skin" than an efficient way to unlock the skins you actually want.
