Having trouble against Zed? Play Cho'gath.

He wants to harass you? Kill some minions and recover.

Assuming you have half a brain and can sidestep the occasional Q then with your pots you should never be low.

Vorpal Spikes makes pushing back easier without mana.

He ults you? Eat him for half his HP.

Either that or play Lissandra Ahri Leblanc Annie Talon Xerath who can all beat/go equal in lane and be more useful in teamfights.

Wait what if you got counterpicked and can't pick these champions? Holy moly it's almost like Garen beats Riven. Assuming equal skill if you get counterpicked then don't expect to stomp lane.

Ziggs can be a pretty good choice if you take a defensive summoner spell like Barrier or Exhaust.

  • If you fall behind, you can easily farm from range and waveclear.
  • You can easily shove in Zed, to try and stop him from roaming.
  • You can use your ultimate to help other lanes without leaving Zed free to roam.
  • Zed's landing position when he uses his ultimate is pretty telegraphed, so you can easily drop your Hexplosive Minefield to damage and slow him. You can also position your Satchel Charge to immediately knock him and yourself apart and CC him.
  • Your Q's mana cost isn't that bad anymore unless you sam it, so you can easily rush Zhonya's Hourglass after 2 Doran's Rings (Mana Regen runes are optional).

Malzahar is another good option.

  • Ranged farming with E and Voidling which restores mana
  • Zed's position after using his ultimate is telegraphed, so you can easily drop your combo on him and kill him.
  • Your ultimate will instantly CC Zed, which can prevent him from using his abilities or autoattacks against you, which mitigates his damage greatly.
  • Deals a lot of damage even with more defensive iems (i.e. Rod of Ages, Liandry's Torment, Rylai's Crystal Scepter, Zhonya's Hourglass)

Cho against any assassin is a good choice. seriously, cho is an assassin's worst nightmare.

Cho beats assassins as long as he doesn't feed early. He does well against them with equal gold.

He will also match Zed's waveclear usually, and will pressure mid lane hard if Zed tries to run bot lane.
