Annie main unbalance is an extremely linear and short-ranged kit for an initiation mage that forces her to blow flash in order to do the job she is supposed to be designed to do. This not only destroys any viability in higher elo's, but also removes counter play. It also forces the enemy team's mentality to become "Does Annie have Flash?" As opposed to "Does Annie have enough mana/CD/MS/etc in order to do that?".
As a result of this she has insane ratio's, base damages, and defensive capabilities in order to compensate for a kit that is not suited to an Initiation mage.
Don't get me wrong though, Annie is not the only champion who is like this, but she is definitely the most infamous for it. Initiation mages are inherently broken to begin with. Anytime
is even remotely above-average - Strong, she absolutely dominates the competitive meta as an extremely powerful pocket pick. Even now, when she is in a relatively over-nerfed/under-tuned state she still pops up in the Professional Play and the LCS now and then.
If it weren't for her High Skill Ceiling and lack of co-ordination in Solo Queue games, Lissandra would also dominate Solo Queue games any time she sees any form of Buff or shift in the meta that favors her as well.
The main difference between
and
kits however lie in the fact that Lissandra's kit does not force her to shoe-horn flash into her plays.
People love to whine and complain about Annie's burst, which is honestly pretty meh by a DPS Standard. Or that Tibbers enrages and kills you after you didn't pay enough attention or have enough foresight to track her CD's and always kill Tibbers first.
Any semi-decent Syndra or Xerath is going to do considerably more damage then Annie, even without their Ultimates or any kind of pet.
In reality Annie's biggest problem is that she able to pull off a feat that NO other champion in League is able to pull off to the extent that she is able to.
Annie's Kit is not even that strong by a lot of standards. Her ranges are awful for a mage, she is immobile, her DPS is garbage and her kit is 100% combo dependent. Even her CC isn't THAT great, as it's only 1.75 seconds past level 11, and for it to be utilized she has to walk out of position.
However the moment you add in Flash (And by extension
) her kit becomes a constant ticking time bomb of when Annie is going to land a team-wide stun because 2 people mis-stepped in a teamfight.
TL;DR Annie's Kit is shit, but Flash (And
) turn it into a uncounterable mess of initiation.
