RP Through Matches

I understand that RP is Riot's way for players to buy things in-game through IRL currency, however what if you could earn RP from matches? Not a lot, just a little so hear me out 1st.

You get RP based on your kills OR assists (whichever is higher) minus your deaths. This means say you go 8-2-7, because your kills are higher than your assists you'd start with 8, you died 2 times so you would lose 2 RP giving you 6 at the end of the match. 8 kills - 2 deaths = 6 RP gained kills/assists - deaths = RP gained Note that you won't lose RP if you go negative like say 2-8-7. 7 assists - 8 deaths = -1 but it would just stop at 0 RP gained so you don't end up losing any that you buy.

This is just a thought, but I feel like this would make players be more mindful of how they play the game and want to make smarter decisions (like say ward, watch mini-map more, actually be helpful to the team, etc.). Possibly also have you earn half the RP gained if you lose the match rounded down (so lets say you earn 3 RP, half of 3 is 1.5 so you'd gain 1 RP instead of 2)

This would also give players who can't buy RP access to the things players that do can.

Let me know what you think down below about this.

Good KDR != a Good game. You can have a bad KDR, sometimes even go negative, and still play well, contribute to the team, and help secure victory.

They aren't going to do anything that'd impact how players play the game, as they want the focus to be exclusively on victory, even if that might occasionally mean someone needs to sacrifice themselves in the process. You also don't want people unnecessarily prolonging games to farm kills.

RP would also stack up quite quickly with such a rate which is no bueno business wise. Theres already hextech loot to get RP stuff for free, so we don't really need more.

I wouldn't mind if there were occasional special events that included RP as a reward, but I don't think we need a consistent source.

That isn't fully true because they announced a high possibility of them creating "Missions" for players to complete in matches.

The context on that I'd heard was it was just a centralized place for the various events that happen that unlock stuff like icons (e.g. "play <insert game mode here> with a full premade"), which have always been things that either don't directly impact how you play, or stuff that directly furthers victory (as in so many thresh kills in dark star). By completing those 'missions', people would then be able to collect their icons directly instead of needing mto wait a few weeks and not being sure if they even qualified.

Kills in SR by contrast don't directly further victory (although it often helps), so plausible SR missions would be more along the lines of "Get X wins" or "Get X wins with a premade" or "gift someone after a game".

I mean I could be wrong, but Riot has always been very conscious of avoiding things that could impact gameplay integrity, so any events that change that (Get X kills, land Y of Z ability, etc.) would show a potentially concerning change of heart.

Here are a few examples Riot gave us on good/bad missions

Good mission: Win three games with at least 10 kills/assists. Bad mission: Win a game with 300 AD as Lux.

Good mission: Win three games as Leona with an A grade or higher. Bad mission: Play 100 games as Leona.

Also : Missions will offer players new challenges to solve on the Rift for rewards like unique skins, Summoner icons, and loot. Since this is uncharted territory for League, we don’t quite know where we’ll end up years from now, but we do have some guiding principles to separate a good mission from a bad one.

Apparently we'd get special skins from missions too.

Interesting, I see they very recently (as in 3 hours ago) added more info on them which I hadn't seen. I'm rather wary of the impact of what they're doing there (especially as a 'completionist' who is going to be compelled to try to earn things for champs I don't even play), but we'll see.

Still, from the sounds of things it may open up even more opportunities for free 'paid' content (i.e. skins), so even less reason for direct RP handouts.
