Why is smurfing for fun seen as dishonorable??

ryona··1 votes·1,404 views

I am a Diamond 3 - 2 player on average. I play on my Silver alternate account and rotate between playing as I would in my elo and then intentionally sabotaging my own games with subtlety to remain in low Silver than dodge (which would inevitably make my MMR kick me upstairs from Silver).

I get hate pretty much every game, but I don't get why lol.

yeah and he wonder why him purposelys ruining the game for 4 other players actually trying to climb is looked down upon.

5 other players when he actually tries. They didn't deserve to play against someone way above their skill level.

you are still gonna be a lot better skill/mindset wise though, so it makes it very unfair.. also you should probably know doing this is a punishable offense and riot WILL ban you (i hope at least, cant rlly trust riot, but they have told me normal smurfs are fine but those who intentionally stay in low elo will get banned)

  1. because you're manipulating the system so that you are placed in an ELO you don't belong in. Gaming / cheating the system is already disappointing, but then you take it a step further.

  2. Because in playing with and against weaker players, you're ruining the experience for others. You destroy the integrity of ranked matchmaking for all of the people who expect fair matches.

  3. By intentionally throwing matches that you could win, you're shouldering your team with a loss that they might not deserve.

If you want to smurf in Normals, I feel like it's not as big of a deal. If you want to smurf in Ranked, you're ruining the whole point of having a ranked game mode. The spirit of ranked is to have close competition and to have each game be as close to a 50/50 as possible. The average person is not going to enjoy playing a serious football game against Clay Matthews or Leveon Bell because they'll just be run over time and time again. However, they would perhaps greatly enjoy a casual game with friends of equal skill level.

Basically, you ruin the balance of low tier matchmaking. Then, once in game, someone who plays ranked only occasionally and another person who's fairly new to the game gets completely run over, don't have any fun, and quit the game.

Cuz you're ruinning the game for 9 other players.

5 really, freelo is freelo. granted they might feel guilty they didn't actually do anything, I doubt they would describe it as "ruined"

how do you not get why? There are players trying to improve their rank; especially silvers, to obtain gold for an exclusive skin, or even just to climb. They don't have the skill level to compete with a constant Diamond player. Yet, you're the douche bag that comes in, wrecks them, knocks them down back further into their elo hell and most of you jerks mock them or give them the GG (being a sarcastic dbag). Smurfing, plain out, isn't fair to low leveled players. You shouldn't have to be a Diamond or better quality player to advance in silver, let alone bronze. You want some fun, then play normals on your other account; dont be that jerk to step on players that are trying to climb. I'm aware riot cant exactly ban a smurf account, because of lack of proof. But, it should be a bannable offense. if you want it to be put in a different light; Imagine there is a kid. That child wants to buy a Foil Charizard because he thinks its awesome and its his favorite pokemon. His parents wont buy it for him ( he doesn't get boosted). So, he saves his allowance up ( grinding low elo) and hes about to get that Charizard he always wanted (gold+). And as he walks into the store with his eyes lit up, here you come (diamond player), Mr.Money bags adult, buy that charizard out right and maybe a box or two of the set it came out of (taking the goal away from a low elo player). well congratulations, you not only pissed of that child, but you came in with no regard or respect for what he was trying to achieve, and you F'd him over.... Which is EXACTLY what you do to lower ranking players every time you smurf into a ranked match.

Simply put, you're an asshole and you even admit and are smug about it.

Technically smurfing alone isn't that bad of a thing, sure you're purposefully pitting yourself up against players you know aren't as good at the game as you just to stomp them into the ground at the expense of their fun. Sure smurfs who loose games tend to vocally blame their teams thus spreading more toxicity in games. Sure smurfs have a bad reputation because most people smurf in order to basically run around half cocked and have fun, thus completely ignoring another version of the game you could do that in anyway. Sure people who smurf try to stay in lower elo, thus ruining the experience of four other people who are trying their hardest..... I- I forgot where I was going with this.

Just play norms or do it in Ranked. If you lose, I'm sure you're good enough to make up the LP. Stop smurfing.

I can't play normals because of MMR inflation. I face Diamond or Platinum players on average in blind pick, when I want to face Silvers and Bronze

HalcyonDweller4 votes

If you aren't at Silver/Bronze skill level then you shouldn't be playing with Silver/Bronze players. Doing so ruins the experience for them.

I mean there's no skill difference between elos, that's a misconception. Silver, Diamond, whatever is all the same anyway.

That statement seems very questionable. Do you have any evidence to substantiate that claim?

yeah I deal with terrible players in Diamond all the time

That's just as likely to be because people get boosted.

You're going to have to bring something better than anecdotal evidence to the table.

Also I notice you're failing to respond to comments that have perfectly explained why what you're doing is wrong. Why the selective hearing?

Just a few examples:

If they're the same, then why does it matter which you play? You said you don't want to play against Plat+, so obviously P+ aren't the same as Brz/Sil

Having seen a diamond play with silvers on several occasions, and having seen that Diamond dance around in and among the other team, spamming taunts and laughs and the like while wrecking silvers, 1 v 5 ing them while the rest of his team was just laughing, that statement isn't true.

Read that again and you might come to realize why it's dishonorable. Fuck, if you gonna smurf, atleast just make a new account everytime with a barcode name.

pretty sure this person is trolling....no one can be this clueless....but just in case.

The mere fact that you even admit to "intentionally sabotaging your own games" to purposely lose should be enough for some type of punishment.

Riot should just ban the op's main account and let work his way back up on his new one, keeping an eye on his IP for similar things in the future. Reported
