Question for riot's network people

With all the net neutrality hubbub going on, not that I believe anything terrible will come of it, I got curious about one thing: how much bandwidth does league take up compared to streaming 1080p videos on things like netflix, youtube, twitch, or that adult site?

I can give you some information though im not "Riot's Network People" Streaming a 10 min 1080p youtube video is ~277 MB A game of league can be from 10mb to 30 mb so its not that big

Oh, that's pretty low. 30 MB for a game that runs an hour is a drop in the bucket compared to a 90 minute video.

The numbers check out.

Video is a lot of information. Even with good quality modern compression, filling a 1080p screen at 30hz requires far more numbers than the game state of League. If you think about it that way, you can draw a relation between, say, knowing the position of a unit - 3 32-bit numbers, to the color of 12 pixels with 8-bit color channels.

That particular comparison isn't fair to video - the compression techniques there are very well developed past the concept of sending individual color information, but the general idea illustrates why the difference is so big.

Thanks. I figured league would be on the lower end of bandwidth, especially if you realize not all the players are even in the US.
