Nobody is ever going to ping again...

...and when you complain about it? "GET IN VOICE CHAT SCRUB!"...

...and when you get in voice chat, so begins the immature(literally or figuratively) toxic players screaming at their mom for a PB&J at 1am in 7.1 digital stereo surround sound.

Oh boy...

Rito pls. Do not do the thing. We no want yelling.Unless we're in discord with friends. That's what it's there for.

voice chat brings a better balance of champions in high elo as a lot of champions are unviable in soloq by the lack of communication

disable it and if you don't do it then don't blame riot for it

Revali1 votes

if they even give the option to completely disable it.

i'd enjoy voice chat for others that want to use it, but i'm not gonna subject myself to people being obnoxious over the mic just because people want to.

Fondling Gems4 votes

You really think they aren't going to have a mute option?

IcyPepper4 votes

A mute option won't have the guy unsay that he did my mother

Glory ln Death3 votes

I mean, unless it's true, it really shouldn't be a huge issue. Just mute them, laugh about how dumb and childish they are, and move on.

IcyPepper6 votes

It's obviously not a big issue, it was a tongue-in-cheek joke (I mean, I've played CoD when I was younger. I've heard MUCH worse).

The point is muting people doesn't change the fact they already said something. Playing Overwatch and other voice chat games, I've had some experiences. My main aversion to using voice chat is when people scream over the mic and blast your eardrums. They already annoyed you at that point, muting and reporting is just a recovery method.

I'm not entirely opposed to voice chat being an option, but I am going to exercise my right to not use it since I don't play ranked.

Ralanr14 votes

What about low elo huh? I get that Riot doesn't do balance for champions in low elo, but most of their playerbase is there so our actual enjoyment of the game should be important to them.

Ahristocats7 votes

i already said it low elo can disable voice chat

Silverjust17 votes

The problem we are talking about, is that you will have to use it to be effective, even in low elo. I think talking about tactics would be better than writing about it in the chat. But I dont want toxicity in voice com, and I dont think riot can take care of that. Thats the reason I am very sceptic about voice com.

Glory ln Death12 votes

Hate to tell you this, Rubick, but nobody cares about high elo. Especially your definition of high elo, which is less than 0.5% of the playerbase.

There are definitely pros and cons to voice chat, but "making more champions viable in high elo" is one of the least noticeable effects it will have. Nobody really cares about that when they're now getting flamed and harassed in their games in voice as well as chat and pings.

but nobody cares about high elo.

pretty sure some people care about high elo

justl like some people care about low elo the difference is not everyone is forced to use voice chat

"but then you have a disaventage" no shit, not using communication is a disaventage in a teamgame? that's new to me

DrCyanide9 votes

The problem isn't cutting ourselves off from a new form of communication and that causing a disadvantage, I think most people would be fine with that.

The problem is people will use existing communication (aka: pings) less and less as time goes on. You can already see this with premade groups, especially groups that have newer players in them. If you record 5 average games and count the pings now vs 5 games a year after voice chat you'll see a decline, even among those trying to keep pinging. Any since new players typically end up closer to Bronze/Silver than they do Diamond/Challenger, the bulk of the community will be effected.

It's with that perspective that this whole "opt-in" idea looks like nonsense.

Glory ln Death12 votes

Yes, 0.5% of the playerbase cares about high elo. Meanwhile, 99.5% cares about "low elo" (based on your definition).

I'm not saying voice chat is a bad idea - I think it will be extremely mixed and I may not use it most of the time (it can already be pretty bad using discord with friends, much less using it with complete strangers). I'm just saying that your argument is unimportant to most of the League playerbase.

The vast majority of players couldn't care less that you can't play Darius ADC effectively without voice chat. That doesn't affect them at all. They want reasons why voice chat will improve their games, not why it will improve your games.

Or, you know, make it opt-in so that people who want it can have it and people who don't aren't forced to use it...

Dextix LT2 votes

Except that this creates a problem. What if people who rage opt into this and then dont use pings anymore, so those who dont use it are at a huge disatvantage?

What if i get ganked with no ss and then someone says "I used ss in the voice chat", this will screw over those people who cant or simply wont risk voice chat for any reason.

Keira Helsh16 votes

Yeah... Going to have to do something about the definition of 'refusing to communicate with team.' Because otherwise people will be banned for opting out of being thrown off their game over immature voice chat.

Mira Arya Enthe11 votes

Tbh I am quite sensitive to people yelling. So I will never use it. Hopefully how much I utilize pings will encourage team to do so.

RainbowIcee7 votes

Idk If you've used voice chat in other games but this is not what actually happens. It's a hilarious and sad story but most of the time people just leave their mic on with their music playing idk if they forget but they just leave that on. Some times you hear their tv, or just the dramatic family arguments and you feel 3rd wheel embarrassment from listening to it. Most of the time is extremely awkward to have open Mic so if they implement it i hope it's more of a push to talk thing. I once heard some kid singing their foreign anthem or god knows what the hell he was singing, sounded like a horrible singing voice or maybe it was the right way to sing? i have no idea.. but experiences have been very very awkward and third wheel embarrassing.

I remember people saying the same thing about voice chat being put into dota. Boy were they wrong.

Lets be honest for a second, people in mobas simply do not flame nearly as much in voice chat as they do in text chat and the gains from communication far outweighs any perceived losses.

This.

Kind of redundant, you're innately subhuman if you play League.

"Why aren't you using voice chat?"

"Cuz I don't wanna listen to you."

Due to toxicity and hate speech, your account has been banned permanently

Malicious Metal10 votes

Maybe on NA, here on EUW I have yet to encounter truly toxic team mates.

Apart from Draven mains that is.

Mira Arya Enthe6 votes

Well you can have VC. Here in America the better 'man' is decided by who can scream, mock, act like a child and KDA measure with their team mates. In TF2, Halo and Counterstrike a majority had either extremely gross/annoying mic habbits or were just plain assholes. I cannot see it being much better here, considering you can far more easily be fucked up by your team in this game.

The people who say "Oh people are less toxic by voice" yeah no. I worked in a call center for years, this is bs. People are perfectly fine treating others like scum even face to face. In my current job 2/10 customers are assholes regardless of being face to face. It is just the American way.

Doozku2 votes

I remember when I used to play dota, that one player that lived in the UK said that he switched his server to the US because of how toxic people were on the VC. He said it was way better in NA than it was in EU. It's not region specific, its more about experience. I've yet to see a real inter in my games except maybe one time. (and it was a draven main lol)

Salson6 votes

Well be prepared for French, Spanish and German.

I know I'm muting the whole team if I hear a word of Polish.

Ahristocats4 votes

who the fuck is going to speak french?

i have yet to find a single mate that speaks in french in chat with random people dafuq

Salson2 votes

Well my voice com in CS:GO and Dota is full of Russians/Poles/Turks and stuff.

Going by that logic, EUW would be full of French.

Ahristocats3 votes

{quoted}

Dota is full of Russians/Poles/Turks and stuff.

Dota is full of russian in 2k

above 6 or 7k no one speaks in russian anymore except in some games and everyone communicates

you might watch streams of RTZ and SingSing

Everyone wants to win in high elo, and they will all speak english if they want to win

Salson1 votes

Dota is full of russian in 2k

I'll just put this [zombie-nunu-tears]

Ye, you can apply this for every game. Wonder where League threshold will be Gold/Plat/DIamond.

Good? i want communication, and my champions are infinitly better with communications

so let me have communication, and those who don't want it can not use it and mute it or disable it

i don't get why is this hard to get

Salson2 votes

Good?

Well the language comment is 90% a joke/meme, I don't actually hate Poles because I don't have a weird mustache.

and my champions are infinitly better with communications

I do however think botlane would benefit the most from this.

Anidan2 votes

Jungle will benefit immensely as well. Ganks are always better with communication, so if you have an entire role whose job is to go around ganking and acquiring map control early on then communication is huge for him.

NineTailedMystic4 votes

Because people who don't use it will be flamed and reported and otherwise disadvantaging themselves.

Ahristocats5 votes

No riot don't have the logs of voice chat you can't be reported because of not using voice chat, riot won't know if you used it or not

the ignorance on the topic is trong

Good thing I'm pretty fluent in English, German, French and Italian then.

Salson2 votes

That sounds really....Swiss.

Don't you guys have a joke nation, like Poland on EUNE?

EndlessSorcerer9 votes

I'm against implementing voice chat. There are just too many potential issues with it.

  • It will be more difficult to monitor toxicity in voice chat than text chat (since automated scanning is more time-consuming and less reliable)
  • Personal information (i.e. rough age, gender, name, etc) could easily be revealed and lead to harassment
  • Background noise (i.e. television or people talking in the same room) could be a distraction to other players
  • It provides a distinct advantage over communicating through ping and text, leaving those who opt-out of it at a disadvantage

Honestly, I just hope they aren't doing this in an attempt to reinstate dynamic queue. One of the main complaints (aside from boosting) was regarding the communication advantage pre-made teams would have over solo-players which this would be (partially) removing.

Doozku6 votes

Have you ever played dota? That game has voice chat but still people use the chat and pings. Voice chat is just less important in a moba than it is in say, a shooter, where you will get flamed for not being in the voice comms.

Every modern online game has voice comms. Hell, 2005 Xbox live games have voice chat and this game is one of the biggest in the world and it still doesn't have it. Not to mention voice chat will help the balance. I'll finally be able to play Ryze again now that I can actually communicate with my teammates about using my ultimate.

Odd, Every time I played COD, VoIP was used for talking smack, and not for anything of strategic importance, Probably because the main game mode was Death match. And of coarse when you have a game that's often played on a console, you may not even have text chat available.

Honestly, I think a lot of people are just going to mute everyone by default. It's possible that Riot may set up VoIP to default to "Party only." With all of that in mind, emphasizing the importants of the strategic value of VoIP, is likely going to backfire. I bet it will create more volatility in the numbers than an actual balance.

option paralysis6 votes

And another thing that US players don't even think about, imagine the EUNE and EUW servers. I know a lot of people, if not everyone knows english by now, but maybe not everyone is comfortable using it every day to talk with other people in chat or something, so by default you'd be in a disadvantage if enemy team and all 5 players will use it. It's the same shit as with dynamic q. I know I sometimes don't wanna hear or talk to anyone and just play the game, and if I'm a support main this season, imagine going no voice chat against a voice chat bot lane.

Blakers16 votes

I seriously doubt this will actually happen. I mean the post is a great meme and all, but players of all elos including myself continuously ping even when using voice comms. Look at the LCS they still use pings when trying to communicate ganks, dives, team fights, barons, etc. Pings will always have a place to allow you to more effectively position your team the way you want and if some immature teen in voice comms forgets to ping for you when you aren't using it and rages at you then report his ass because he would have been toxic without voice comms anyways.

Jet Sett6 votes

People still use pings in Dota 2, and they've had voice comms for years. Even the people using voice use them because I can't tell you the exact spot where I want you to go, but I can ping it.

You guys are overreacting hard, at least wait til we see some of it in action first.

It's pretty lame how you socially awkward typical league weebs are trying to keep the rest of us from getting voice chat. If you don't like it, don't use it. It's that simple.
