Why is support Darius suddenly a thing?

I get that off supports are popular, and a season is new so people are trying new things, but REALLY? Support Darius? Sure, he has Apprehend and a minimal slow, but any support with CC (Nami, Alistar, Thresh) can keep him away long enough for him to be irrelevant. I've had enough games with "supports" that just don't work that I've started just dodging matches to avoid wasting 30 minutes of my playtime. So why is this strategy suddenly rising in popularity?

Cos Darius with Talisman doesn't care about your disengage support. Or the Darius will just go full AD and kill your adc and support together.

Well, let me say 1 thing:

I'd rather have a support Darius, who has never even played Darius before, than some random guy playing some other champion he doesn't understand.

Darius is one of the easiest champions in the game, and he has potential to do Support things (peel with pull and slow, soak damage, deals damage, etc). Maybe at a high level of play, Darius is complete trash as a Support... but if I'm matched with some guy who has no clue how to play any Support I'd much rather see that person taking Darius than risking them feeding on something else.
