Aryzen - Ick hoab mana ready
Warning: The title and following text contains horrible puns unsuitable for good taste. Read at own risk.
Ryze was one of the dominating picks during the 2014 World Championships (Fact I), with 31 bans, 37 picks and 22 wins. This means that he is a strong champion, a fact nobody can deny.
He is a minor flex pick that gets mostly played top-lane, but can be rotated to the midlane if he gets a favorable matchup there/an unfavorable match-up up top.
Generally, Ryze has a strong or weak early game (match-up dependant), an ok mid game and a strong late-game, to the point of being called a hyper-carry. His early game is strong against pure melee champions without a way to gapclose onto him (many champions classically played top-lane), but weak against longer-ranged champions and most other mages. His mid-game is ok - he doesn't bring too much damage if he is still in the mana-building phase, but the CC threat from Rune prison is always real and good for making picks. His late game is fantastic, with good sustained magic damage and good tankiness. Him being a major sustained magic damage source is key, as League's itemization isn't set up to combat sustained magic damage well.
So, how could Ryze possibly be modified to make his early game weaker, while retaining his late-game identity as the mana-ready monster (the mana-ready phrase comes from my circle of friends - "Come on already", if pronounced badly, sounds like a mix of heavily accented German and English - Ick hoab mana ready, I have mana ready. And Ryze has his mana ready, indeed).
I'd suggest moving some of his base damage of Q and/or the mana scaling of W and E to the AP ratios. Both would have the effect of weakening his early game, but keeping his late-game, aryzen form intact:
For definition, full build Ryze in this context is:
. (3.3k mana, 308.7 AP, both without runes and masteries)
-
Q damage reduced by 15 on all levels. AP ratio increased by 0.05 to 0.45. Break even: 300 AP, which is fully-build Ryze with the build above.
-
W mana ratio removed. W AP ratio increased to 1.1. (Sidenote: What?)
-
E mana ratio removed. E AP ratio increased to 0.45.
The numbers suggest the Q change to be very reasonable, the W change to be completely bollocks and the E change to also be reasonable.
TL;DR: To decrease Ryze's lanebullyness against melees, move some base damage from Q into the AP ratio. Possibly, remove E mana ratio for increased AP ratio.
Or, another idea: make (single-target?) spells draw creep aggro.
