Why is being bronze such a bad thing?

Worst Kench NA··32 votes·5,044 views

Some people just aren't good at this game. I'm one of them. I'll never get out of Bronze and I know that, but I don't have a problem with it. I seem to be winning as many games as I lose, so I'm not going anywhere. I don't see why others in Bronze look derisively on it, like it's some sort of thing to escape from. Isn't having games that you can actually be competitive in a good thing?

I guess I can't speak for everyone in Bronze, but knowing that I can't get any better, I'd much rather stay in Bronze forever than burden someone in Silver with my inability to play the game.

well there's a couple of reasons for it I think.

  1. You get more "casuals" or less skilled players that either feed, don't ward, afk, etc. so it is used with a negative connotation to describe someone in that group.

  2. People on the internet have a level of anonymity that allows them to act like total &!@$wads. Therefore the people that have inferiority complexes, personal insecurities, a spouse who dominates them, or who have crappy RL existences feel the need to come on here, flex some epeen, and ruin other peoples' fun.

If you are having fun with the game and play in bronze, that's awesome! The game should be just that. A fun source of entertainment that you can use to fill the monotony of every day life. Enjoy playing Reaper. :)

So what if those people are like me, and do the same things in real life with our friends who are also grade A dicks to each other?

Paquay3 votes

Well there's a big difference. You know your RL friends and also you can put out a lot of other cues as to what you really mean in person such as voice inflection and body language so they know you don't really think they are a steaming pile that needs to kill themselves.

I joke a lot with my friends and we all give each other crap but I have the chat acuity to know that doesn't always go over so well in a game. There's a world of difference between talking to a friend and saying "bro you suck and need to uninstall" and saying that same thing to someone you've never played with who may be new/bad.

vOmvbrawfU1 votes

But maybe they just really do suck and need to uninstall?

I see this a lot from teammates in my games though. A lot of them complain about how they're much better than the elo they're in, how it's all our faults that we lose, and stuff like that. Never mind the fact that they'd be doing a lot worse if they were in Silver. I just don't get why people think like that.

KraDEsluP2827 votes

i'm in silver 3, they say that too.

was in gold 4 last season, they say that too.

they say that in every rank.

Zen Ineth5 votes

It's a pride factor. People want to think that the amount of effort they place is equal to their skill. They can't be honest with themselves that they don't know enough about the game or aren't quite good enough yet to climb, so they make up excuses. It's that way for a lot of people, and I'm no exception. I have some expectations of how games should go without considering my elo, even in unranked games. I feel that some decisions I make should be backed up by my teammates, so I frequently tell myself that my team is at fault when my opponents have better team cohesion in some ways. I'm wrong to do so, and I need to stop.

They need to protect their ego. It's not that easy to admit you suck at something, especially if you've been taught being mediocre is a bad thing. Also, it's much easier to just blame someone or something else.

I personally see bronze as "a thing to escape from" because I want to get better, and obviously if I'm in bronze, I can improve. As far as other people, I've met some very nice bronze players, but you will find VERY toxic people in bronze, most of which is credited to their lack of knowledge on the game (a.k.a. rito pls nerf yasuo). Trying to climb out of a place where half the population seem intent on keeping you there can be frustrating.

SmileInABox1 votes

What frustrates me the most about Bronze is the inconsistency. It feels like such a grabbag of people who barely know how to play, toxic assholes with massive egos, people who tilt and feed after one death, etc with some decent people who just want to climb and have fun mixed in.

While I agree in the sense of wanting a legit competitive experience in a game it is depressingly rare. Sure there will be games where even though you or a teammate did terribly you overcame that, focused, and turned around the game into a win, a lot of the time this is only a fantasy. Most of the time you end up with games where:

  1. One person is completely out-skilled and their mistakes eventually gets an enemy ridiculously fed to the point they start roaming and nowhere is safe, including under your turret.

  2. Somebody doesn't get their pick/a kill and will proceed to feed and/or be a complete asshole and then leave when it seems like despite their efforts the game might be turning around.

  3. Your team actually does fine all game, doing successful roams and wiping the floor with the enemy laner(s) but one 4-man gank bot costs the game (1-3 kills, first turret gold and possibly the second turret, along with drag) as few people ward or even notice that their lane opponent is mia and that small lead completely flips the game a lot of the time.

  4. Someone gets camped or the jg gets constantly counter-jungled and nobody does anything to help until it's already 0-5.

  5. One or two people don't know what they're doing or how to play their champ, nor how to safe farm/ward/farm under turret.

  6. Somebody actually knows what they're doing and probably don't belong in bronze and steamrolls your team because again, few people ward and even less dare to go ward hunting item 3364.

  7. Someone does too much. A lot of the time I'm the one doing this so i'm not sure if all bronze players do this but, one player roams too much. Even if the roams are successful and get a lot of kills or assists this means nothing in the face of all the free, uncontested farm the enemy laner will get in addition to free damage on the turret.

There's probably more I forgot to list but most of this is just salt anyways.

TLDR: Stupid people cost games, nobody likes to lose and many of these stupid people are in bronze. Plus bronze is the lowest rank and nobody likes being at the bottom unless it sexual.

It is a part of human nature to degrade others as it makes you feel better about yourself. That is why racism exists.

just remember the actual point of the game is to have fun and enjoy it.

here is a though about rank...

rank isnt something to be ashamed of. i feel rank is just a way for riot to put players of similar skill levels vs each other so they can have fair games and enjoy and have fun playing the game... hear me out...

you are bronze.. what if every game you matched vs plats and diamonds? and you get stomped up and down the map and the game is no fun to you.. are you likely to keep playing if that is what happens every time?

on the other hand if your plat/diamond whatever "high" elo if you playing vs people lower skill level then you is that fun not every being challenged? it would be like if you were to go play a game co op vs bots or a custom game vs bots and the difficult is set on easy?

how fun is that?

so in theory rank is there to put us vs people we have a chance to win against while being challenged so the game is fun and rewarding at the same time and keeps you playing..

but riot makes a team game without having voice chat lol its like they just wanted this shit to be the most toxic game known to man

only way to enjoy urself is just play champs u like but even then its never fun losing espcially when the game last 45 mins

It's less about being bronze and more about having a bronze mentality I believe. I mean seriously. Some games are so easy but it feels like your teammates don't even care enough to even put out 30% of their effort and play smart.

Stephenizgod2 votes

Nothing wrong with being Bronze, but there is something wrong with being Bronze and not understanding it is because you are not good at the game. I don't believe you can't improve, I believe you don't care enough to improve. I don't mean to be rude or mean, but it really isn't hard to get out of Bronze. I guarantee if you spent 2-3 hours practicing farming, making sure you missed as little CS as possible, you will start climbing purely because of that. You just got to put the effort into practicing.

Being bronze isn't bad Accepting bronze is bad though

Also some bronze players are so bad they may as well be playing a different game

but then there's the whole "i'm good cuz I belong in silver" thing, that's even worse

Bronze players who accept bronze are worse than just bronze.

I'm literally unable to get gud though. I've got what it takes to maintain my rank in Bronze, but I can't get to Silver. I don't see why I should just completely uninstall the game because of it.

but I can't get to Silver.

I thought the same thing last season and just somehow ended up in Silver after something like 1000 ranked games. I fell 4 times back into Bronze and was able to climb back up to Silver each time. Climbing is about mass gaming in my opinion.

Yes because overestimating your abilities or not being able to self-reflect is far worse than understanding your strengths and knowing it's not being ultra good at a game. Smh

Besides in bronze everyone dies... A Lot.... Like no seriously... WE DIE ALL THE TIME AND IT'S AWESOME! I can take my Teemo wherever I want and get away with it because people don't know how to punish weird stuff in bronze and it's awesome. I purposely don't play ranked anymore cause I don't care about it and I like my Toxic blind pick games that everyone tilts and rages in and it's fantastic......

Also props to this guy who made the original post and was willing to say and think that much out loud for us all to see.

It's not bad, it's just that it means you don't have a higher level of knowledge about this game. I have a degree in Computer Science. I know literally nothing about Chemistry though. So I'd be Bronze in Chemistry and maybe Plat in Computer Science. That's all it really is.

If you enjoy playing the game at the level of understanding that you have, that's fine. For me, I don't mind reading guides, watching videos, and trying to learn how to be better. Am I ever going to be an LCS player? Probably not, but I still want to be the best I can be at this game.

if by "know what you do" you mean "play lee sin, zac, vi or some other meta champion" then yes i know what to do, but those champions i either dont own or dont play. I play people like Aatrox Camille Diana Evelynn Graves Shyvana Udyr who are not really that meta but still very viable carry options
