Clearing this up once and for all, because I've constantly been told to "play tank support" in champ select because "our team needs a tank" :

Supports aren't gold gold-efficient enough to be the team's only tank. Yes, They can play tanky supports, but technically speaking it won't matter how tanky they are, since they're very behind. Top and Jungle shouldn't rely on the support to be the team's tank, in fact, this is completely incorrect. If the team needs a tank, Jungle and Top need to stop complaining & play tanks themselves since a support tank is** not an efficient tank**. Tired of Top and jg thinking they have options but support doesn't.

and than when you skip sightstones or other support items so you can be the tank, for no one else on the team wanted to play tank, you get flamed up the ass. Sometimes i'll skip redemption or sightstones, and I HATE making that sacrifice. But when my team comp consists of Fiora MasterYi Yasuo Tristana Who all decided to go pure ad, without a single tank item, Than you guys didn't give me much choice.

Honestly it's really hard to fuck up picking as a adc, almost any adc works in any team comp. The only time you fuck up is when you pick something like a jinx or kogmaw without any peel on your team.

That being said i said lucian because at the moment his damage isn't as much as other adcs.

Honestly as a tank support I always get sightstone and upgrade it to ruby at one point. 500HP is sweet.

People who demand that others go a certain role, pick or champ while not communicating who they're going to pick and why, do not have any valid input because they are hypocrites.

i.e.

Teammate (Graves): Locks in graves as our 3rd pick Teammate (Graves): go tank, we need a tank Me: Why don't you pick a tank? Teammate (Graves): I only play graves Me: Wait... so you only play 1 champ, 1 role yet you expect others to accommodate to your demands? Teammate (Other): lol

Ehh is kinda depends. Taric is a free tank stats. Braum can help with that too. Leona is free tank stats. Naut can help with his Shield. There are a few Supports that can take the tank decently well. But with those people just say fuck em and pick Sona bot.

yea, but how long is a team fight supposed to last? I think at most a regular team fight will last for maybe 15-25 seconds once they start to fight. Not going to include testing the waters with poke.

It's not the gold that's the issue. It is the fact that the support should be the lowest level champ in the game due to being in a duo lane and missing some xp to ward for team. Furthermore, if they are the sole tank, they will almost certainly die in every teamfight - whether the team wins or loses. Due to this, they are lower level, and behind in itemization to tank effectively unless you have say a bruiser jungle and top who can tank a decent amount of damage. Even in gold, people don't look at team comp and adjust: ap vs ad - mix of damage too many tanks and no damage too many squishies vs a team with tons of aoe burst and cc picking a champ who needs to gank early and just ff while enemy jungler ganks and still outfarms them ganking lanes with 0 kill potential (ex: malphite vs maokai - malph isn't going to help you kill maokai pre-6)

Nautilus is not a Support, he's just a Tank with really good peel. Taric does his best when he has another beefy front liner, like Yorick, to team up with as his shield scales off his target's max HP. Braum can function as the team's only Tank, but his durability greatly drops when his W and E wear off. Same for Ali and his R.

I feel like mage supports have an easier time getting gold because they get rewarded with gold for harassing enemies and have the potential to pick up kills

I'd agree with you on any other patch, but right now this just isn't true.

Support tank items are straight up on-par with full tank items right now. They're absurd in their gold efficiency. You get a Locket and a Gargoyle's, which although not a true support tank item is in a price range that support tanks like on any champion and you're a mega tank who makes their team also mega tanks.

In the game at current you can get away with a support as a true tank.

From my toplaner pov, usualy its the supp or adc whose ask this. Anyway just don't care, if someone wan't a tank in their team, they pick him themself or ********. Just don't care about gold efficient or not... If ennemy are fed u will be squishy anyway.

This is another area where I find these people completely delusional. Main engage, and peel really aren't one and the same.

To peel for your ADC, you need to be with your ADC. (Which is not in the front line) And if you don't have any back line peel, your ADC could be screwed, if they get jumped without any mobility or self peel.

I've noticed that if an Assassin or Diver get's past my initiation and dives the back line, they fall into disarray. (And then I get melted when the followup isn't there) Though peel from a strong rear guard could turn that around, and that's something a support tank can do.

But on the same token, that support doesn't even need to be a tank. Enchanters like Lulu, Janna, maybe Karma, can have enough CC to peel off enemy attackers, and use their shields to soak damage.

Even jungle isn't really efficient enough to go tank(other than broken updates that didn't get changed yet), it cost more to be a tank early and mid game than a carry now a day with how shitty early tank items has gotten.
