we should be able to see our ping pre-game.

Okay, I'm gonna say this because time and time again have I had a teammate who goes through the whole game on 400 ms, & then it becomes the sole reason we lose. There should be like a little text next to the play button that shows your ping before your game starts, and maybe even a warning that tells you you're lagging when you go up for a queue.

such a simple concept, we should have had this long ago. It's season 7, wake up riot.

Copy and paste "ping 216.52.241.254 -t" into a command prompt and press enter. It will display your ms delay on loop.

You can't tell what your ping is until you're directly connected to the game, league client would display 0 (Just like spectator) in that case.

Also you can't know when someone's internet is going to randomly spike up. It just happens.

Thats not true, the program Haste is able to look up what your ping is going to be very accurately. It works for both LoL and Overwatch, maybe other games in the future. All you need is for your league client to be up, don't even need to be qued for a match

No idea what that is, but most likely they use "ping 216.52.241.254 -t" too

That program is just giving you a rough estimate of what ping you will have in game based on your current upload and download speed. It takes like 30 seconds to run the test and cannot display an exact ping in real time.

But it would be cool if the League client had a test you could run that was similar to the programs/websites that do this.

No, it doesn't. I live rural and have a wireless ISP which gives me shittier ping in league. If it gave a prediction off my upload and download it would say 30 ping like every other speed checking site online. When a typical speed site tells me it would be 30, Haste would tell me it would be 70-120 (shows me exact amounts like 80.7 for example), whatever it would be in game at the time, and it's always right. The fact that Haste is capable of this is absolute proof that League really could do it themselves, I just don't know why they don't.

Well tell them to go in a custom game and sit there for 2 minutes to observe how consistent their ping is. There are plenty of solutions, but if they can't figure that out they're willfully stupid.

Then make a post telling them

(Nevermind, I found a post from a Rioter on Reddit where he states the IPs. Although you should add about 10ms to get your actual in-game-ping. Also, the IP I found is different.) Source: https://www.reddit.com/r/leagueoflegends/comments/4efy17/how_to_check_your_ping_without_getting_into_the/

(Old post) Which server is this exactly? Because Senior Wrenchman "AmShaegar" said that the Game-Server don't response to pings (which is kind of obvious because they could get DDoSed easily otherwise).

Source (German): http://forums.euw.leagueoflegends.com/board/showthread.php?t=905429 (I know that this post is from 2012 but I doubt that they would change such a fundamental security-option)

You can just type "ping google.com -t" for the same results.

Didn't know this. Thanks, this is easier to remember.

I bet that would take about 2-3 patches to implement. Incompetency and spaghetti code

Despite the unnecessary aggression (the new client, capable of features that were impossible on Air, just came out), I agree. That would be a great feature.

Download Haste. If your ping isn't already nice and low it can help lower it around 20-30 ping like it does for me, and on top of it you can test your ping on LoL and Overwatch before you decide to que up for a match.

I just use haste and its been pretty helpful and its free for now it takes like 30 secs and Ive saved myself from quite a few games when it showed like 200 ping
