The Imbalance with kayn is as bad as people think

Short version just what the tytle says.

Long version: Some people say kayn is broken, others say he is underpowered. Both is in a certain way right. DEPENDING ON HIS FINAL FORM.

Rhaast kayn is very strong because of all his percentage max HP damages and his fat chunk of sustain from his passive and his ult, said ult being a nuke with it's flat damage and an AD scaling percentage of Targets max HP as an extra.

Shadow Kayn however lacks that Little umpf as an assassin because of his ult only refreshing his passive and doing nothing else than the raw flat damage.

If you ask me, the Problem here that creates this imbalance which in just 2 days gave people the biast mindset of "only idiots and noobs run blue kayn". i legit had a game where the entire enemy team AND EVEN ONE OF MY OWN TEAM was badmannering me for not taking red kayn.

sure, he just came out, some number changes are inevitable, but if i had to toss my 2 cents into it i would say riot should mainly focus to give him a bit more balance to make the choices more worthwhile. as Things are right now, you do not wanna Play blue kayn unless the enemy has not a single melee, or maybe just one single melee champion being the supp. Riot should tone red kayn's flat damage numbers a bit on his ult and his Q, because keeping 100% of the flat damage but also getting so much extra for it just by being a lil patient, and camping someone, feels way too rewarding. meanwhile blue kayn only has a Little more to offer due to his passive applying Magic damage bonuses.

My personal suggestion being: -slightly shorten some of red kayn's numbers, give him more of an bruiser feeling if he already has this much sustain and percentage max hp damage numbers. -slightly give extra flat numbers to shadow kayn, and maybe change his passive to being tick-counted and not on a timer. an example, when the passive is ready you have 10 hits, if you hit a champion once, one hit gets ticked down and the extra Magic damage is applied, if you hit 3 enemies with your Q or W, then you get 3 ticks counted down and have 7 left, and the passive only starts it's cooldown once all ticks are used. and maybe make his ult proc the tick 2x OR give additional ticks to the ones already there. +5 or something along the line.

3 second of extra damage that scales with your main damage is trashcan material if you don't have that main damage. Don't get me wrong, blue kayn also has his plus sides, having more mobility, slightly bigger ranges, but it is not nearly enough to compensate for the near-broken powerspike red kayn gets from just his ult alone. an innate healing that scales with AD, horrifyingly high percentage health damage and a passive that can heal you additionally up to nearly 50% of said ult damage.

i do wonder what everyone else thinks about this. sure, kayn is a sensible topic, but i feel like this really needed to be addressed.

I think Red Kayn is fine. He doesn't do a lot of damage to Squishes because he lacks flat numbers and scaling. Instead he has Max % HP which makes him better against Higher HP targets.

Blue Kayn on the other hand is trash. He doesn't do enough damage and needs something more to really get you to pick him. As an assassin he is weak, as a fighter he is pretty strong.

I think in general too it's just way to easy to rush Red Kayn so your effectiveness is pumped up quicker than you'd think. I think the charge rate on melees should be reduced so he isn't getting his Darkin form in about 10 minutes from just basic ganking. He should also have some numbers touched up on his early game. He is a little too strong at his basic clear and could use some changes to weaken his early game a little, and push it into his mid-late. Namely buffing Shadow Assassin.

again shadow is fine people are probably running lethalty and not straight ad crit.

I mean you may as well play Yi at that point. It's clearly want they want, but Shadow just needs something more.

the damage is there people are trying lethlity and finding it weak just like on rengar. i like the darkin due to the knockup

Same here. Darkin just is a lot better. Shadow is meant to be a risk, but it's not rewarding players enough for investing in that risk. That's the major issue I have.

Like for example, I can get Darkin in about 10-15 minutes where Shadow takes me closer to 20 and it's generally harder. So not only am I working HARDER to get this form, but my hard work is being not as rewarded. Even if I went for AS, Crit build, I just don't feel I'm being rewarded at all, where Darkin I am getting all this good stuff and a solid build path.

depends on what u want and who they have on there team, u can get either one fast if u choose to gank the right lane. range for shadow melee for darkin. i just like the knockup. Stormraiders is what they say is good on him but its meh tbh. better off getting thunderlords, deathfire, fervor, grasp of the undying, or hell the shield you could argue is decent. I built him like i buidl skarner or udyr. which is more or less something like this. warriors, merc treads, frozen heart, triforce, so on and so forth

Yeah that's what I was thinking. His a fantastic brusier and the knockup just massively helps his kit.

Blue Kayn is a good choice when you are ahead, it lets you roam much more effectively with the buff it gives to his e (70% increase movement speed)
