Before season 6 there was a mastery that reduced the damage taken from AoE spells. I think that buff should be introduced for everyone in ARAM, because it's crystal clear that AoE mages win games most of the times (they might lose only if they find themselves against beefy champions, but they still have a chance to win if they snowball their inevitable early lead and itemize magic pen).
