Okay Riot, here's how you can change Vel without really changing Vel

Change his passive from true damage to a stackable MR shred, **slightly ** lower the damage on his spells and their mana costs and lower his CD's. BOOM, uniqueness!

Now he shows the idea of learning about his enemies through lasers because he's finding their weaknesses and able to do more damage to them and he provides something unique to his team in that he's good for a heavy AP comp because he can shred the enemies MR for his whole team.

He'll do less damage initially without the true damage but he also has lower CD's so he can deal damage more often and if he can continue to stack his passive then he can not only increases his damage but increase the magic damage of his allies as well.

The problem with your suggestion is that his passive being true damage is true damage for a reason. His kit lacks the same raw damage that other immobile mages have, which is why he gets the bonus true damage as a reward for hitting skillshots. You'd have to BUFF his ability damage significantly if you were to remove his true damage.

But if I reduce his CD's so he can dish out his combo more often to get more MR shred and reduce the mana costs to facilitate this then he'd be an even bigger pain in the ass when it comes to waveclear than Ziggs is. I'm saying reduce his damage slightly because he's going to be outputting his damage more often.

I'm just trying to come up with a way for them to change him to fit a niche without really changing him much because I don't want them to ruin my favorite Mage.

He already fills the niche of a mage "sniper" with his Q, while having aoe damage in teamfights if he is properly set up. Positioning, timing and aim are more critical on Vel'Koz than most any other mage.

I can change that name and you would not even know I changed anything.

To me Vel'Koz is a kiting combo mage. My favorite moments with him are running from an enemy while throwing my spells out behind me to whittle them down before suddenly turning on them and finishing them off either as they run from knowing they can't catch me or because I jut pressed R and melted them.

Xerath does not have to think about his skillshots as much as Vel'Koz, which is why Vel gets the true damage and flexibility that Xerath lacks.

All immobile mages are fairly similar in design, but its the small changes in how they go about doing their damage and CC that makes them different.

Except Riot has shown they don't accept that as an answer. Skarner had plenty of interesting mechanics and ways to go about playing against opponents in his last iteration with the Crystal Venom passive but they still decided to siphon his power into a bunch of stupid rocks.

Would you rather keep yelling, "Don't do it, don't do it!" when in the end Riot will still go through with changing Vel or would you rather say, "Okay, if you're going to change him then at least keep this." or "Here's an idea to change him that doesn't ruin what I like about him."

Why is me trying to be proactive and mitigate the potential damage that could be done, seen as so terrible that I deserve a bunch of downvotes and people sticking their fingers in their ears and saying "Nah nah nah!"?

It's because the change you suggested might be even bigger than Riot's proposed changes, whenever they come, and because at some point Riot has to start listening to their playerbase or they will go the way of Jagex. I'm not letting this game die out over the next few years without a fight.

Okay then, so you think my proposed changes aren't the right way to do it, then do you have any ideas of how we could change Vel without it ruining him? What is it you like the most about him and what suggestions do you have for making him distinct without destroying his current gameplay?

He has a unique gameplay pattern and abilties. He has a unique power of gaining "ease" of damage and zone control the closer his opponents get, rather than just "are they in range or not" because of the delays on his skillshots function.

If anything would be changed, just a small change to his ult perhaps. Make it deal less damage per tick, but ramp up the rate of ticks rapidly throughout the channel. Maybe have his ult stop on champion collision but deal massively increased damage to them. Maybe make it so that champions cannot walk towards him when he's ulting them, like the power of his ult is repelling them.

Very small changes, but makes him even more unique without changing his power at all.

Perhaps they could make it so his ult knocks back enemies when it's activated (Perhaps half the distance of a Janna ult) and then he radiates damage around him for half the damage of his laser.

Maybe they could also have it so if he uses a W right on top of another W then you get a special effect out of it?

i mean his ult like rumbles do so so much damage and can be the turning point in teamfights

SpecterVonBaren1 votes

Indeed. It's one of the most satisfying spells in the game.

for them to say vel koz doesnt offer anythign is plain dumb. i mean vel supp rocks hard with his range and the disengage on his e and slow on q.

"Unique MR passive shred."

Tfw people forget Fiddlesticks is a thing.

SpecterVonBaren1 votes

Fid has a nonscaling 10 MR reduction on ability use. It's one of the worst passives in the game because it falls off like a truck driving into the Grand Canyon. Having Vel'Koz shred MR means it stays similar to his current passive in that it allows him to ignore an enemies resistances but also gives him utility and means the longer the fight goes on and the more combos he lands, the stronger both him and any other magic damage dealers get.
