Recharging Sightstones

Backing in League of Legends is a chore, but necessary for item purchases and health/mana replenishment. Supports have low gold income and many have efficient sustain, so backing for these reasons is unsatisfying, yet they have to back anyway to recharge their Sightstones; which is important, but especially dull.

I think it would be cool if Sightstones had a ward recharging system, to reward supports who manage their resources effectively and back only when they can afford key items. This would also encourage warding, make ward placement more forgiving, and allow for more extensive roaming, all of which adds to the fun of a role that has less compelling reasons to back and is more rewarded for staying on the map.

I can understand if people don't think supports and vision need this kind of buff, or think that this makes vision play too forgiving, so I'd be fine with Sightstones having less initial charges (say, 2) and a modest recharge rate. The recharge could be based on time, kills/assists, distance traveled, who knows. This idea would be tricky to implement, but I'm curious what people think about it.

I believe that having sighstone on an set # of charges makes a more fair playing field. You need to make a choice in order too be effective. With uptimes and downtimes you need to manage your resources efficently to stay safe in lane. Once you go past 20 mins i would appreciate this though. Might just be me though. Love to see how this thread turns out.

Hmm... what if Sightstones were recharged when killing Dragon and Baron?

Player with Sightstone would need to be present for the kill (i.e. attack once, heal/shield teammate), of course.

Ward shards, destroy a ward get a shard. 2 shards = 1 ward on Sightstone.

Upvote this wonderful idea. Not as crazy as 1 ward destroyed, One ward gained, but way better than just backing.

You pretty much just described the yellow trinket. If that's what you want, you can always just keep it.

Please. Always buy Sightstone as support. It allows you to have the Maximum 3 wards on the map, and you can buy a Sweeper.

I prefer the Sightstone how it is, I normally keep my yellow trinket for well past level 9..... the recharging yellow trinket and my sightstone just gives me more options than other things..... seeing as i normally use 3 wards to ensure full vision when taking dragon or baron. Yellow trinket aside, if i used sightstone to do this, the tradeoff is clear. I would run out of wards. I wouldnt be able to ward again until I got back to base. If it recharged, I would still be using it the same amount as the non recharging. Actually, there would probably be a decrease in wards used in the game because people would get rid of their yellow trinket sooner because "the sightstone works just the same way" leaving them with 2 wards and almost never having 3 wards on the map at a time.

I prefer the current sightstone because if I run out of wards.... Trinket and sightstone together.... then normally we have been roaming around for 5-10 minutes and so we are VERY vulnerable due to us having 1-2k gold for the support, and between 2-4k gold for the ADC (if neither of us died and we got kills, farm, etc etc). Effective managing lets it last for a while.

Recharging sightstone is an interesting idea but I personally do not think it is a very good idea...... And yes I am a support main so no I am not just a random laner trying to say this.

I would say that killing another ward should give you a charge.

ok, so here's the list of a typical support battle

  1. Clear Pink

  2. Put down your own ward

  3. Enemy support sweeps your ward and puts down their own

  4. Sweep their ward and then put your own

This all taking course of about a minute. The only reason someone wants to sweep is to deny vision, and if I'm not wasting the enemy support's wards, then nothing is gained out of this fiesta then is gold.

tldr; it makes sweeping pointless since no wards are spent in between interactions of said sweeper. All thats used is sweeper cd

I think if Sightstone would grant you a charge when getting an assist or clearing a pibk ward then it would be fine.

Recalling isn't a chore, it's an important tactical decision. It's only a chore if you don't know how to take advantage when the opponent recalls and opponents don't take advantage of when you recall.
