I see a pattern, and I don't like where it is going

Every single targetted spell in the game is being taken away one by one. I'm not kidding, riot consistently says that insert targetted spell here lacks sufficient counterplay due to reliability. But if every skill in the game does become a skill shot, it will be impossible to get new people interested in the game due to difficulty, and champions that have low cooldown mobility (Glaring earnestly at Kalista) are going to become rediculously overpowered. Especially when there is no targetted CC anymore.

People who consider a skillshot too hard shouldn't be playing League though.

There's a big thing here. Some spells can be targetted and some can't. There's a reason Taric was nerfed to competitive non-existence, because when he's strong, there's not really much you can do outside his stun unless you have a Spell Shield ability or Morgana or took cleanse, QSS, or Banshee's Veil which you can't buy early and if you don't get it early he's gonna stun you and you're gonna lose.

Then there's the "How strong should a skillshot be to a non-skillshot" issue. I mean, let's say you have to spells that perform the exact same way. They each do 100 damage. One's a skillshot, the other's a point and range click of the same range. Why would I want the skillshot that has a chance to miss over the point and click that's certain damage that can't be stopped? Then again, a Skillshot can be used to check unwarded territory or poke while the enemies in bushes which you can't do with a point and click.

TLDR: It's more complicated than just yes or no.

PS. In Smite, everything is a skillshot (including auto-attacks) and it doesn't seem to have a problem getting new players. Not as popular as League, but it seems to be doing just fine.

Well I would say though that due to the third person play skill shots aren't as hard with them always going directly in front of you instead of the over the shoulder style we play here where everything is angled.

Uhh...people are saying that Smite failed and S2 is back to injecting development money into HoN.

Totally agree, I've been thinking the exact same thing also regarding Kalista and Yasuo. Also I don't think it's rEdiculous, maybe ridiculous, sure.

I pronounce it r-ee-diculous and since a forum isn't an english assignment or official paperwork im going to continue spelling it rediculous. And glad you agree with me on Kalista.

It's less civilized to misspell words on purpose.

It also can make your argument go from valid to seemingly terrible. Proper english can go a long ways in sounding and looking better.

I think point and click CC should go, or be difficult enough to pull off that it's basically on par with skillshots.

Things like Leblanc/Talon/Kass silence have zero counterplay.

Although I also think that all AoE CC should be restricted to ults (with some exceptions, like Liss's W, which has a very short duration and is a root)

One of the more important effects of targeted abilities which is the reason I'm terrified that they'll skillshotify Ryze's Q (making it Ezreal's mystic shot sans on-hit stuff basically) is that units can't block them.

Usually anyway, but I don't know of a single target, point&click ability which can be blocked by interceding units, The closest you get as far as I know would be Lulu's passive.

So why is this a big deal? Because you can't farm with single target skillshots. You can snag opportunistic last hits, but you can't use abilities like Mystic Shot, Glitterlance, Light Binding, to farm.

Which is why I'm terrified about Ryze, because all he has to reliably help him farm is a targeted point&click single target spell, which Riot stated they think is an obvious candidate for being turned into a skillshot.

As for point&click CC

It's fine, it should pay for it's reliability in duration, strength, cooldowns, resource costs and range. The problem with stuff like Taric's stun, is that it has too much range for Taric's otherwise melee profile, and too long duration for something you can't avoid.

Then you have Ryze's root which is short range, and doesn't last very long at all.

It's more about what the ability is supposed to do, and more importantly what it does in play, than it is about what kind of ability it is.

And It's not like there aren't skillshots that are a lot more reliable than targeted abilities anyway, due to being AoE and having range a targeted ability couldn't afford.

They're being very particular with which targeted abilities they convert to skill shots. Point and click abilities with too much weight often get shifted to skill shots so that there's a larger range between the minimum possible effect and the maximum, in order to offset hard CC or highly condensed damage from being too oppressive. That doesn't mean every targeted skill is being attacked. Zilean's Q was certainly going to change because it was the entirety of his damage in one single package; you can't have that as two clicks with a rewind in the middle and keep it worthwhile. Adding the stun to the combo clearly makes up for it and makes it even more reasonable to become skill shot based.

Whether or not the rework will be functional or not is up in the air, but that particular change was inevitable.
