Riot: Maybe hire a 'tenth man'

Dear Riot,

I'm not going to assume I know how things work when you're balancing/designing/reworking things. I'm going to make some very simple and vague examples below. I believe they're still relevant, since a lot of people seem to think this is how things work (which would mean you're giving them reason to).

Balance Guy 1: Cheaper ADC items! Balance Team: Yeah! Ice cream!

Design Guy 1: Zoe gets all of the summoner spells! Design Guy 2: And burst! Lots and lots of burst! Design Guy 3: And new, confusing and powerful CC that also amplifies damage! Design Team: Yeah! With sprinkles!

Rework Guy 1: Irelia! Rework Team: nomnomnom ithe creem!

For anyone who's seen World War Z and remembers, there's a concept mentioned called the tenth man. Basically if nine people all agree on something, the tenth guy must take a contrarian approach and tell the team why the idea is bad. It helps to solidify and reinforce plans by avoiding things like groupthink. For example:

Balance Guy 1: Cheaper ADC items! Balance Team: Yeah! Ice Cream! Balance Guy 10: A lot of ADCs are designed to have poor gameplay early with strong mid-late game item spikes, allowing the enemy team to punish their champion choice and play around that weakness. Cheap, accessible items allows these champions access to those spikes too easily, even if they've been focused in the early game.

Design Guy 1, 2, 3: *See Above Design Guy 10: If we're going to make a new type of CC, we should at least attempt to provide some clarity on how it interacts with abilities and items that players are already familiar with. Considering how powerful it's going to be, perhaps we shouldn't make it such a powerful zoning tool in choke points as well, considering this mechanic already exists in a few other champions, such as Ziggs and Fizz. (Insert more Zoe balanced designs here)

Rework Guy 1: Irelia! Rework Guy 10: Pantheon.

Perhaps this 'tenth man' can get a feel for ideas that are going to be implemented from some of the people who are most vocal against these kinds of changes. I know that's not always (or ever) an easy group to isolate or communicate with, but it would be a wonderful baseline for determining just what those contrarian views are that seem to be lacking from your choices.

Regards.

Those conversations by supposed Rioters are awful misrepresentations. I highly doubt that the balance, design and rework teams say things like that.

Aside from that you've got a good point. Riot should probably incorporate a nay-sayer role into every team if they haven't already.
