Because at one point, the game held a higher standard for game play, content, and ranked system design.
Understandably yes, no matter what its free and they don't have to care what we think since people pay thousands of dollars for skins and they basically keep it free (Thank you). But that's not to say the player base cant hold them accountable.
Additionally, the primary problems in the game right now are their own doing. So you may defend Riot but to say its wrong to be upset with them in the current game state is silly (in nice words). Additionally, they have only gotten bigger, only gotten money, and don't have any excuse to not be on top of a game they've now run for 10 YEARS and also do yearly international events with "21.8 million Average Minute Audience (AMA)"(worlds 2019).
If thats not enough, on a more humorous note, remember they claim they are a small indi-game company... but with 200+ years of experience in game design. So it seems like they've burned their excuses. Which means its blatant disregard for its players which is frustrating since LOL has no considerable competitors, that I see atleast.
Because they are incapable of solving the problems that they have created. For reference, just look at akali. After so many nerfs she remains strong enough to be unbearable (Mostly in high elo).
You still want evidence? Aatrox for many patches was strong in proplay. Instead of, idk understanding that a juggernaut with 3 knockups is impossible to balance, they proceed to nerf him into the oblivion. Nowadays there is literally no reason to pick him. You want dmg? Go darius. You want knock ups? Pick a tank. You want sustain? Pick fucking sett.
Still not enough? Just look at sett. This abomination of a juggernaut has a big problem with his numbers specifically his damage and base hp regen. And what riot proposes? A small nerf in his hp regen (9.25->8 wow he is still going to regen a lot), an actually good call to increase the cd in his w (16-8->18-12) and finally -20 dmg on his rank 5 w. Funnily enough only the increase in cd is going to affect him. The other two do absolutely jack shit nothing. Because he doesnt need his w to kill most toplaners. His passive and q are more than enough to cover his ass.
You know a champ is absolute cancer when you are forced to pick a ranged top. I never NEVER touch ranged top (barring gnar and urgot). But this shit of a champ just gives me no choice.

Despite not being able to do ANY of this they got 2 new skin lines with 3-5 skins a piece coming this month
Having a free game is no excuse for it getting worse and worse and if we go by your logic, since you don't like people complaining about Riot, you might as well ignore them and not write a thread about them complaining

The game being free is not an excuse for not making the game good. Not being able to do everything at once is not an excuse for not doing anything to fix the problems.
We want the game fixed.
People get pissy because they want answers from Rito, not from fanboys that rarely bring actual arguments for defending Rito.
People are attacking Rito because they aren't satisfied with the evolution of a game they played FOR YEARS and/or SPENT MONEY IN IT.
People understand that Rito can't do everything at once until they see Rito sabotaging themselves with THEIR OWN CHANGES.

Eh, I'm willing to overlook most balance issues because that at least changes every two weeks or so. Therefore usually rants about them are usually taken as a grain of salt. Other times they just can't even balance things they have created, like yuumi. They give too much, and end up surprised when they can't be balanced due to overloaded safety measures.
But it's Kinda dumb to actively tote that things that are blatantly obviously broken are fine, from the technical side of things for months. I.e, like the client. Even their top streamers have client problems, so it's not even like you can argue "lol your PC just sucks".... No, the client is just garbage.

First off lets get the “free” thing out of the way. Anyone whos played league for at least two years has likely spend 50-100 dollars on the game, so that kinda falls flat on its face.
As for “just leaving”, some of us have played for a very long time, in my case i believe august of 2009, for done of us league is an immovable fixture in our lives, and so when we have gripes its mostly because we want a return to form.
As fr the “its fashionable to hate thing” tbh i see this argument al the time, not just here but on blizzard forums. Party A makes legitimate criticisms of said company, party B proceeds to gather up and circle jerk about the critical sides supposed circe jerk, lamenting about how its “fashionable, cool and edgy” to be a hater, all while ignorantly hand waving away the legitimate grievances people have insisting people should be eternally grateful for said company to have created the game in the first place.

because it's fashionable to bash on riot. and then we have EA, Bethesda and Blizzard really showing us what model game companies should look like. so really who even cares anymore, i wouldn't care if i was riot but for whatever stupid reason they still care as they state in all of their dev updates that come with vidya's where they list popular grievances of the community. so yeah if riot is all that bad, then shit i guess EA should be tried in international criminal courts (they are btw)
