@Riot: You never did explain to us why we couldn't have both Magus and Runeglaive...

Unless I totally missed it, there was no explanation given as to why we couldn't have 2 choices for AP jungle items. 2 choices (instead of having Runeglaive shoved down our throats) would've been great for Riot's lauded "strategic diversity", but instead they chose not to give us more to work with and instead just decided to only let us have one choice.

Sure, some AP junglers like Diana or Elise need Runeglaive it for mana sustain, but other AP junglers like Evelynn or Fiddlesticks liked Magus because of the 80 AP and 20% CDR. Why couldn't we have the ability to pick between the two?

You keep talking about "diversity", but you're being hypocritical in this instance, Riot. Why did Magus have to be removed when it wasn't necessary to remove it? Why didn't you just introduce Runeglaive and keep Magus at the same time?

From a gold efficiency standpoint, magus was pretty terrible. it didn't give enough AP to justify its lack of a decent passive and the CDR could also be achieved with other lane items after your jungle item. All it really gave was a small amount of AP, and cdr for a high price. The new runeglaive gives a really good passive that eliminates the 3k+ gold you would have to spend getting lichbane / gauntlet, while also not giving ap junglers too much power.

I personally don't finish either in most cases, but that does cripple you because your going 10+ minutes before you get your first major AP item. So if i HAVE to finish a jungle item to be relevant as a jungler Runeglaive > magus

Fiddlesticks and Karthus still would've liked having Magus rather than Runeglaive.

My point is, why eliminate one option and replace it with another when they could've just kept Magus AND added Runeglaive? Everyone would win with that setup.

You are mistaken. Diana, Eve, and Nidalee are the champions who like Runeglaive. Elise is probably better with Cinderhulk, and pretty much the only person who liked Magus over Runeglaive would be Fiddlesticks. Diana and Elise were probably the least mana hungry AP junglers before Runeglaive when clearing, so I don't know why you used those as your examples.

I will say that Magus should have been kept for those pure Mage junglers such as Fiddles and Karthus, but every other AP building jungler prefers Runeglaive over Magus.

I'm kinda bummed that Runeglaive is getting nerfed so hard though. Not having the conversion of your attack to magic damage really hurts the efficiency of M--pen and it also reduces your damage early before laners have built meaningful MR. Having no AOE when you hit a champion also hurts your 2v2s and teamfights as an AP jungler. I would understand it not working on lane creeps as this would reduce Ezreal's effectiveness with the item without hurting junglers as much. I would be fine with one of these changes, but I think both of these in conjunction is overkill.

Fiddlesticks and Jungle Karthus prefer Magus over Runeglaive.

...such as Fiddles and Karthus...

That's what I just said. Fiddles and Karthus are the only ones who like Magus over Runeglaive, and I think that Magus should have been kept for the pure Mages that could jungle.
