My Conclusion on the Support Issue

(To Clarify The Issue I Am Referring To Is The Lack Of Players Playing The Role Of Support)

After Reading a good chunk of post on the boards about Supporting and i have come up with my conclusion The perception of support has been fairly standard between the 2 camps: The Support Mains (or people who willingly play support) and everyone else

From what i read i do not think the whole topic has changed any minds, comments have generally boiled down to either

  1. Nothing is Wrong With Supports (generally coming from people who play solo lanes)
  2. Supporting is Fun,But Could Use Some Spicing Up (i am in this camp)
  3. Support Singed
  4. Supports Should Stay Bot
  5. Supports Should Roam All The Time
  6. Supports Are The Marksman's slave
  7. Sightstone Or Not To Sightstone

And overall if i was not a support main these discussions would not have swayed me to the role

But as i have said before, I am a nobody so i want to hear everyone's opinion, negative, positive,Insightful, or just funny

The thing the most people don't get is that the support sets up the rest of the game for the ADC. If you have a passive support vs an enemy aggressive support, the enemy ADC is going to have a better game.

Solo laners focus on CSing and occasional poking, whereas in bot lane the ADC can focus almost sololy on CSing and the support focuses on poking. Obviously some supports are more engage supports like Thresh, Leona, etc so their poke isn't exactly normal, but still. The point though is that when a non-support player is autofilled into support, more often than not they do nothing. Picking a Braum and playing like a Soraka doesn't help the ADC. Picking Zyra and never using a Q all lane doesn't help the ADC.

For me, when I play ADC, I honestly don't care if you play something like Darius support and go full damage. So long as you are willing to help ward and willing to poke/engage, I honestly don't care what you play. However, if you are playing something like Brand or Thresh and do nothing but stand 10 feet behind me all game not using a single ability, I'd rather you just not be in my lane.

If people actually understood how important the support roles it, maybe they would take it more seriously. Yeah, your name isn't often flashed across the screen, but that doesn't mean you didn't impact the game.

honestly I think it is time to retire sightstone. It exists for no other reason than to keep warding the supports job. And while I understand the power of the vision it provides, if Riot wants to make it a team effort control vision, Sightstone is sending me mixed messages here.
