Mordekaiser syndrome.
With Morde just getting a slight nerf and him seemingly being brought back in line. I'd like to get something off my mind that's been bothering me since his rework.
Mordekaiser, as a champion (not as a concept) is currently a bad champion. What do I mean when I say bad champion. Is he doing badly? Doesn't seem to be that way from the outside looking in. is his kit inherently bad? No, at least not in it's entirety.
Morde is a bad champion because he is gated by his ultimate and it's interactions. What do I mean by this?
When Morde is strong it's not mainly because of his ult, it's because his stats or damage is too high and has to be toned down. I think this is mainly due to his ult being countered by a
.By allowing his ult to be completely shut out by an item you've essentially set yourself up for a balancing nightmare. Any smart player will get a
and just raise the middle finger to Morde and basically keep him a 3 skill set champ for lane phase. So what this in essentially does is force power to be distributed to other parts of his kit. That's how you wind up having a damn near 54% winrate Mordekaiser that the balance team has to tap around like minigolf trying to find that sweet spot but never able to find it because he keeps winding up in the damn water, drowning or an accidental hole-in-one, walking around bopping kids like he owns the place.
QSS's active basically had to be nerfed many seasons ago because of their interactions with
's ultimate. You used to be able to QSS Zed's ult off you or Fizz's fish and just walk away. So by removing their ult interaction and QSS, Riot was able to maintain some sense of stability and balance (even though many at the time would disagree) with those champs. And personally I think Morde should have that treatment on PBE or for a patch cycle to see if it helps alleviate the Minigolf issue.
Quick edit Mordekaiser syndrome can be interchangeable with Azir Syndrome. The changing or re-arranging of one's kit to where the champ in question doesn't even feel like the champ they started out as.
