Aatrox rework: Success or Failure?
You see, just because you liked, it doesn't mean that is good; just because you didn't liked it, it doesn't mean that's bad. It's okay too like or dislike Aatrox's rework. In fact, if you liked it, it's great, makes you feel excited for playing it next patch.
But what defines a good rework?
R E · W O R K : verb: Make changes to something, especially in order to make it more up to date. "...he reworked the orchestral score for two pianos..."
To Rework a champion means you'll make changes to his kit in order to put him in date with other champions. You'll work with the champion's current art and gameplay direction to "update" him. That's what Riot was supposed to do; but instead, they completely changed the gameplay direction of the champ. The art and aesthetics of the champion were maintained, which is only half success; at least it would be if they wasn't downgraded from the previous one. Edgy burn-seeker teenager VO, exaggerated and flashy Animations. None of that fits Aatrox. And Aatrox currently has a unique and good characterization, so you can't justify such changes like you would with an champion that has almost no any characterization (Nunu for example).
The rework created a completely different champion, with the only similarities to the old one being the name, the Revive mechanic and - partially - the model.
With that in mind, now you tell me: did Riot succeed?
