@Riot How was Flex Q placement even decided with 1 game?

I am seriously curious how that 1 game new placement worked. I have been seeing people with practically 5-10 lost over win some how get gold off the bat. Hell I see people who got 5/10 some how got to gold 2. I went 7/3 in placement and won my 1 so called "Riot waste of time match that decide my placement match" and got gold 4 from when i finish placement and got platinum 4, Currently I'm 11/4 don't feel like playing flex since it is not fun and won't lie it feels easy as hell. The 3 lost I got from my placement had trolls in each one of them so that is how I lost but I want to know how does people who go 5/10 some how end up in gold heck even how they got to past silver amazes me? I see people who did even more amazing then these gold tier but some how ends up in bronze or silver while these lucky fellow some how get to skip the line to gold even though they did horrible in matches?

What was your amazing tactic of deciding how this 1 game place us Riot? I really want to know how your system works.

Placements (all placements, not just the flex ones) look at your mmr at the end of your placement matches and compares that to the average MMR of the various divisions, and inserts you appropriately based on that.

During the first week of flex many peoples MMR was messed up, with some people starting with legitimately 0 mmr. Those people could well go 10-0 and still get placed bronze 5 as a result (and in some cases thats what happened). Others had more normal mmrs, and I don't recall if there was anyone who directly had an abnormally high mmr. Still, the average mmrs of each tier/division were all messed up as a side effect, which resulted in people who had normal mmrs getting placed in unexpectedly high divisions.

When they fixed everyones mmr back to 'normal', the average mmr for each division/tier was brought back to 'normal' which in many cases resulted in people placing lower than before even if their mmr didn't actually change. As a result, for many people, the outcome of the one game after their initial placements didn't actually matter until they just happened to be on the very edge in terms of mmr of a division.

Flex is still pretty messy in terms of matchmaking, but it's just for the usual preseason/start of season reasons of people haven't had a chance to climb/fall to their 'true' mmr yet.
