Why is Taliyah AP?

I was kind of hoping for her to be a AD mage because we never seen that yet. Is it because all the AD items are auto base? If so, are we going to see any AD items that can support the idea for a AD mage in the future?

We have AD Mages. They're called assassins. And Ezreal and Lucian

Assassins are all about killing. Mage are about zone control or poke and we still don't have that yet. Ezreal kind of is, but you only see him bot lane. Unless you are the mood for some AP cheese.

Sure you have. Varus, Lucian, Ezreal, Graves, Urgot, Zed, Talon. These are how AD "mages" work. Mainly spell based, but they autoattack too because that's the entire point of having a champion be AD.

Taliyah is AP because there is no reason for autoattacking to be a significant portion of her gameplay. Autoattacking would not make her a more interesting champion, so she's AP.

Don't forget Pantheon Jayce and Yorick.

If by AD mage you mean ranged AD caster*, we already have one: Urgot

*As opposed to ability heavy marksmen like Ezreal Lucian

Not for long when that rework comes in.
