Ok i'm starting to see why everyone hates the new death times.

You just make one mistake just ONE and you lose the game. At first i was like "good, that's what you get for fucking up". but after you see a game be done in just 28 MINS IN THE GAME you don't learn from that mistake. 40 sec death times are so broken and finally see why.

Oh, so the Quintessences of Revival will finally be viable? No sugar in my #Kappacchino, please.

No wonder LCS is so boring these days - there can't be any fighting if the match is over if anyone dies. And so the games end with a total of 6 deaths or something. That's some 14 deaths less than the entertainment value would demand (at least).

LCS is boring for a multitude of reasons

-Wards are very scarce, so it's hard to get picks in the enemy jungle -Teams would much rather get a tower than a dragon (That's why this bot support top lane is a thing) -Death timers are wayyy too long -Frequently played champions like Lulu basically shut down any chance for big flashy plays from happening.

Tobias Brackner9 votes

For me it's entirely the lane-swapping bullshit. It stops anything interesting from happening for the first 10 minutes, which shuts out a lot of cool champions and play making.

Ñapoleoni8 votes

If they just made Dragon give global gold again this problem would be fixed.

ModAcademy Kayn1 votes

How so?

FastAsHeck15 votes

"oh you want to send 4 people top? That's fine, we'll send 4 bot and get a dragon for free after towers are exchanged"

that's how [slayer-jinx-wink]

ModAcademy Kayn1 votes

This may be me being slow, but explain how it would be with people lane swapping?

Shinjusuke4 votes

lane swapping would have an actual tradeoff associated with it, thus causing it to happen far less.

That's why in, for example, season 2, lane-swapping was a rare strategy: It had definite benefits and definite tradeoffs. Giving up dragon MEANT something.

Sure, 5th dragon is scary. But the benefits without any kind of global gold are outweighed by getting another tower at the moment.

Darkslayer857 votes

Agreed. In the current meta, the only way drag is good is if it's five drags.

Currently it is more of a punching bag for devourer users.

Tobias Brackner1 votes

This would create a new problem (and the old-problem) of Dragon being a "win more" objective. It's like a free tower you can cash in when you are ahead to get even more ahead. And a losing team will struggle to get that tower.

GayFluffyUnicorn1 votes

Well let's give dragon the gold reward back additional to his buffs? You are taking a tower? Good we exchange drk for that. Buff the first dragon to 10% so it's actually worth contesting and gold rewards.

Tobias Brackner1 votes

Dude, the source of the problem is the gold. Look up why they decided to take away the gold in the first place.

Strawberrycocoa1 votes

Frequently played champions like Lulu basically shut down any chance for big flashy plays from happening.

I hate, Hate hate HATE, this line of thought though. Divers need some counter-play to exist to defend against their dives and save ally lives. Nerfing things that "stop flashy plays" just means making assassins even more oppressive than they are now.

Fuck, I don't think ANY balance decisions should be decided based on people sitting on their ass watching instead of playing the damn game for themselves. Thats how we got into this state of affairs, catering to people that aren't even playing the fucking game.

Ñapoleoni1 votes

Well yea, I really don't have a problem with it, I was just listing the facts as to why lcs is boring.

iMaB3AST16 votes

I just want the death timers to decrease by 5-10 seconds, all I need. The death timers now literally make u respawn right when they finish the game.

lmao they fixed them this patch

Why is this guy getting downvoted?

The newest patch reduced death timers. Do you people even read the patch notes?

Because the newest patch reduced death timers after 30 minutes. Final game that is bringing this up to light was Game Time: 31:33

They didn't fix them across the board. They only lowered them after 30 minutes therefore that won't change games like this at all. Most games are played in less than or close to 30 minutes which makes Riots change pretty negligible.

That's why he was downvoted.

{quoted} Most games are played in less than or close to 30 minutes which makes Riots change pretty negligible.

As a data point, my average game time in Season 5 was 36:25 over 155 games.

This season I am averaging 33:57 over 154 games.

I mention this because most people don't actually track this information, and just rely on how long they feel the games last.

So your data point proves what I just said which still makes Riot's change to death timers have almost no impact and is therefore negligible.

It's funny when a match lasts until the 50+ minute mark because neither team is coordinated enough to close out the game lol.

player 1: Hey we have 40 seconds to push mid and end game player 2: no lets get baron player 3: no lets get dragon

The majority of the team goes Baron and they get it, but the players who opted to push get killed by fresh spawns while taking an inner turret and the rest of the team wastes the buff in a 5v3 trying to end instead of splitting or defending...rinse repeat until one side's minions take the nexus.

Well either that or both teams are so well coordinated that neither ever misplays and neither are willing to take any risks because if they do they die. I watch the LCK a lot and this happens in every other game.

B1naryB0t2 votes

You just described my past 15 games.

Modwalla8 votes

buffing towers also solves the problem

So Gnarsty7 votes

I've honestly noticed its more reasonable to come back past the 35 minute mark with the new DT changes, but still feel its too punishing early on when this game is so snowbally

SoMNia6 votes

What if they reduced timers overall, but tacked on extra time for shutdowns scaling with your bounty?

z14GaKI7TO3 votes

Being punished for doing well. My favourite.

SoMNia3 votes

No. It's a death timer. You have to die. If it's for a shutdown, you have to die while fed. Being punished for losing from an advantageous position. Being rewarded for winning while behind.

z14GaKI7TO3 votes

Do you not think I understand that? I'm just saying that it's super fun putting myself far ahead and get levels + items ahead and then be dead for a year because I'm playing better than anyone else. Death timers should be based on game time not personal level and that's my opinion, although people will disagree and swear at me even though because this games playerbase can't accept anything but their own opinion.

Wimbledofy1 votes

why in the world should i get punished extra for my first death?

SoMNia1 votes

Because you're fed and you still got killed?

Wimbledofy2 votes

so being fed means invincible? Right so I play almost perfect the entire game and do 1 small mistake and lose because I have a longer death timer. It doesn't make sense to be punished for playing well.

SoMNia1 votes

Obviously not, because it's still possible to die. It's also possible to have a 0-death game. I will say it over and over: this would not punish people for playing well. It would reward people for making a successful bid for a comeback when they're losing. Death timers punish you for dying.

Wimbledofy1 votes

yes but since i have a bounty I'm punished MORE than someone else, they already get extra gold for killing me.

xNykyrian 2 votes

This doesn't seem like such a bad idea imo. Say an enemy is really ahead and gets shutdown by the enemy they should be rewarded for doing so. Would make super fed players take in to consideration how their death will affect the team more

SouL1ess5 votes

It's not broken by itself.

It's broken because how easy it is to push down towers. They take about 12 seconds each. The enemy can push from full HP T1 tower to inhib down at 25 minutes into the game...

Tobias Brackner4 votes

I don't mind having a potentially hard cap at 28 minutes. I like having time to do other stuff in my day.

Also you pretty much need to be aced with 0 kills of the enemy for the game to be gg @ 28. That sounds like they outplayed you pretty hard.

darapier175 votes

it was the FNC vs H2K game, where FNC was losing hard the entire game

Tobias Brackner4 votes

And they got outplayed @ 28 minutes?

darapier173 votes

H2K's ryze engaged early and got wrecked, then FNC went wild and got a 5 for 0 ace. 40 second death timers combined with graves, orianna, ezreal, alistar and gragas went from top mid turret to nexus in that time. THey didnt have to wait for minions tho because gragas could tank

Tobias Brackner6 votes

Sounds fair to me. 5 for 0 aces are hard to pull off against a team that is kicking your ass. H2K fucked up hardcore to give up all those kills and they lost for it.

PunisherJBY1 votes

So one mess up=gg is okay with you? Just clarifying.

Tobias Brackner1 votes

Since you can't read lemme copy paste my own words again. For clarification.

"Also you pretty much need to be aced with 0 kills of the enemy for the game to be gg @ 28. That sounds like they outplayed you pretty hard."

"H2K fucked up hardcore to give up all those kills and they lost for it."

PunisherJBY3 votes

Well that was a tad unnecessary. You could have just said yes.

Tobias Brackner1 votes

No it wasn't unneccessary.

You are hyper-simplyfing my opinion, which demonstrates a lack of understanding or a lack of respect. I am assuming the first because the second would make you a huge asshole and make me wonder why you are even participating in this conversation about balance.

It's not just "one mess up" it's "A HUGE FUCK-UP".

PunisherJBY1 votes

Getting aced with all your turrets up is not a huge mess up. It is literally supposed to be a situation where you can play risky knowing you have a cushion to catch you. You give your argument to much merit. To say "you all got killed while every single turret was up" to equal "you deserve to lose" is not how a game should go by any means. But seeing as instead of truly discussing you chose to simply say i am "a huge asshole" or just not intelligent enough to talk with you I see no further need to discuss.

FantasySniper4 votes

I'm ok with the death timers, actually.

They're way less of a problem than the turrets that collapse from tickle damage because their resistances start stacking long after they're usually dead.

Totalis3 votes

starting? STARTING!? They've been like this for months now, and this last patch actually REDUCED them, where the fuck have you been op?

MysteriousBootie2 votes

I thought riot was already reducing the timer? I remember last patch they mentioned they reduced the mid-game timers, but I can't even tell the difference.

Honestly this game would be so much more fun and enjoyable if the mid-game timers were just lower. I don't like having to play like a LITERAL GOD just to win in silver......
