Hextech GLP on supports

It seems to be one of the least used mage items, so what about running it on supports?

The Ice Gun thing. Was playing Janna a waifu of mine and thought that I needed more up front mana and not regeneration. My build at the time was Eye of the Oasis (Sightstone + Coin line), Boots of Mobility, and Ardent Censor. We were ahead, so I thought I could get away with getting redemption or locket a little later and not getting Mikael's since I'm complete crap about using that item. I've tried it on Nami and Lulu to some success before, but that was before the new items.

Any thoughts on the item on supports? Good stats (AP, Mana, and Health), good active for peel or engage if you're a champ who can engage well or have a team that can follow up. Only issues are that it's expensive and takes up an item slot potentially used for something else.

If you're worried about Mana, Lost Chapter into Mordello's will almost always be a better choice. It's hard to go wrong with 100AP, 400 Mana, 20% CDR, Grievious Wounds, and gaining mana on Kills and Assists with any AP champion.

True, I just thought I'd be wasting the CDR since almost everything else I was building would give it too.

I really liked the old FQC active and like the GLP active, but it just seems so bad on most champs except maybe A. Sol and Swain. I'd love to see some others use it.

It could work on a pure heal bot like Janna/Soraka who desperately need some offense at times. But it might be hard to justify in place of other items that actually benefit what they do well. Crucible, even with it's annoying active that doesn't work (or matter in this era of chain CC's) half the time, still has the single strongest Heal/Shield increase out there.

The GLP could be a useful item in the right hands on the right characters. The ones that jump to mind are the Tanky initiators that could make full use of the active at short range. Blitzcrank, Alistar, Thresh could all make fine use of the item as a part of their burst initiation.

Haven't built that item in a while, Just remembering how clunky it's active kinda was.

It's stats are decent, but I'm not sure I would take that on Janna. If your not playing a tankier support, the Eternity passive will simply be underutilized.

It's also fairly expensive for a support item. Now if it had 20 less AP, and reduced it's cost by 400-500 gold, I might consider it.

One thing I did consider, if you were running a support with relatively low cooldowns, I have considered a tear into arch angelstaff for a boost of mana and AP. But if I tried that, it would be in niche cases on a select few champions.
