Nunu and Willump rework was both a failure and a success

Old nunu was all about two things. Blood boil and Counter-jungling.

Now back In Season 1Early S2 when only like 36 champs could realistically jungle this champion was god among men. His ability to steal camps was unparalleled and it carved out a very strong niche for Nunu as a invading champion. HOWEVER As time went on and more champions got added to the game and as reworks happened counterjungling,objective control and invading became more and more accessible through other champions and ESPECIALLY who is the undisputed epitome of counterjungling imo.

this left Nunu with one trump card for drafting and ONE trump card only.... His blood boil. Nunu had a name carved out for him because he carried what was one of the most powerful carry buffs in the game and this ability often became the sole reason for drafting him pushed even FURTHER in patch 8.2 when he was given Ability Power super charge on his blood Boil. Imo this was one of the BEST things Riot could've done for the champ because it carved out a DISTINCTIVE NICHE for him and it created exact moments and teamcomps where Nunu had a obvious calling besides other tanks. Nunu now had a completely unique job of doubling down on the effectiveness of Ability Power carries granting them that extra boost needed to match traditional hard carries at the lategame and it was GLORIOUS!

So this brings me to my problem with nunu update. Nunu LOST THIS ENTIRELY not only the AP supercharge but even the raw potency of Blood Boil was massively nerfed and moved to the background innate passive so that instead Nunu got access to more offensive and disruptive abilities befitting that of a frontline tank.

the part of this that I cant stand is while NUNU MAY NOW BE UNDOUBTEDLY MUCH MORE INTERESTING AND FUN TO PLAY he has also LOST WHAT MADE HIM UNIQUE instead becoming another "play him if you feel like it" generalist champion rather than a "Draft him to compliment Y strategy". Something this 140+ champ game already has FAR too much of.

In other words _Nunu went from having a very strong identity to becoming just another or . A generalist tank champion with a slurry of AOE magic damage and disruptive abilities who now only exist to come and go from viability depending sheerly on the state of his numbers vs other tanks. _

anyways This was just something I wanted to get off my chest there because I feel like as League goes on the champion pool deteriorates more and more strategically. Being Free to Play was our greatest strength at one point but now I feel like it is quickly becoming our greatest enemy due to Riot needing to make money off of champion releases and skins constantly. Time and time again it seems like champions with unique identities and niches are disappearing from the game or worse yet...being cloned onto a newer,flashier more expensive model... Time and time again the urge to make money guides the hand of the balance teams forcing less than ideal changes (like dragging your feet to nerf Zoe and Garen to eek in those skin sales or prepping some ridiculous Yasuo buffs when hes already in a acceptable state).

anyways before I segway off too much I just want to close with this. Please,please, PLEASE pay careful attention to how you rework and what you add to the game. Right now I feel like we are not cultivating League of Legends for a long term future but rather we are razing and exploiting it constantly for quick bucks not that much different to how we do our own mother earth. At this rate ideal "balance" seems all but impossible and will slowly but surely we are crossing that Threshold of "soul" to "Soulless".

tl;dr

although its a difficult concept to grasp what im trying to say is that a champion like is more healthy for the game than despite the latter being far more interesting and MUCH more fun to play than the former because Trundle brings with him a strong calling and niche.
