Has Riot ever considered removing surrenders entirely? Just comparing with Heroes of the Storm.

Heroes of the Storm deliberately has "no surrenders allowed period", though this is partially due to how it's much easier to make a comeback in HotS even if you fall behind early. Even if you have a leaver or griefer, you can't surrender, something I view with a mixed opinion.

League, however, is plagued by early quitters. I'm not ashamed to say I've thrown in the towel early a several times, but out of curiosity, I just had to ask whether or not Riot has ever thought of removing the ability to surrender outright.

I imagine they will never do it, but I just wonder if they've entertained the notion.

Surrendering early is I guess a bad thing but HoTS is such a terrible example. There's no real "comeback" mechanic in that game. Your comp smashes into theirs better or its GG. There are no laning phases and you very very easily lose at hero select before anything even happens. Same with this game but in HoTS its 100% worse.

I've never heard of them considering such a thing and I certainly hope that they never do.

"Haha dude this game where the matches last on average 15 minutes and have a dozen come-back mechanics built into it doesnt have a surrender option, how come this game that lasts half an hour and is extremely snowbally has one?"

The ability to surrender is only available after 15 minutes, or 20 if one person disagrees. The average HOTS games go 15-20 minutes at most generally 25 or so. Thus, the surrender mechanic in League is already after the games of HOTS are over.

You get to a point where allowing a surrender would waste champ/hero select as well as loading just for a 2 second long game. There is a balance, and in HOTS there is not enough gameplay in the average game to justify having a surrender mechanic. Compare to League where the average game goes 40+ minutes and it becomes clear that there's a point where people shouldn't have to sit through more.

Speaking as someone who plays both, Heroes should also have a surrender option. Even in that game there are unwinnable games.

And how much more popular is HoTS compared to League again?
