why is zyra allowed to be a support

Im tired of zyra being in support lane, with a shit ton of damage in lane that goes THROUGH minions and a root CC all from a safe distance, can we please kick her out of support lane?

She's really similar to Brand in that she's immobile and lacks any sort of supportive abilities (heals, shields.) The best thing to do is focus on poking her ADC, stomp her seeds when possible, and gank her often because her immobility makes her a sitting duck.

Buying boots early always helps, too.

Teehee, that won't work if you play against my Zyra. I take Domination runes with Electrocute and the MS keystone at the end and it does quite well! I'm flying around the map while still doing tons of damage ;)

MS boosts =/= high mobility. Almost any meta champion will be able to run her down or get out of her effective range.

I rather go for sorcerer shoes on her for the extra penetration. The MS runes did just fine, and in fact that game no one was able to kill me. I had a perfect KDA :)

Why? She is a true peeling support that also is a very good poke support. I have played against her many times and I share your resentment towards her, but pushing her out of support is completely out of question mainly because she doesn’t have another role for her mains to effectively play her on. I would say that if she truely is a problem for the support role then Riot should look into a slight number nerf to the appropriate ability/item rather than gutting her to appease a very small amount of people.

EDIT: And her “insane” safety, CC and poke from range in compensated by how squishy she is, high mana costs on said abilities in early lvls, a very small duration in the early lvls of her E, and her reliance of her plants for damage that can be negated by:

  1. Stepping on the seed to destroy it before Zyra can “grow” it
  2. Killing the plants before they can deal lots of damage
  3. Using the plants to your advantage. Miss fortune, for example, can use the plants to deal lots of damage to Zyra by killing a plant with her Q and bouncing it on Zyra to crit, Nasus and Veigar can also use the plants to gain more stacks for their respective kits. EDIT OF EDIT cleaned up the edit above lol

I understand your anger at Zyra, I am just showing that she isn’t as big of a problem as you say because she has counters and bad matchups to show. My recommendation for you would be to either ban Zyra in your future games as support or you should actively seek out which supports counter Zyra, learn more about that champ (if it is a champ you are familiar with or you picked it up easily, learn as much as you can about that specific matchup to prepare yourself), you can watch videos on the matchup set up a custom game first against a bot (Zyra) then against a friend (will play Zyra in the custom to help you practice), then you can play normal games to both practice the champ and you can practice your pick against Zyra when she is picked.

rather have her on mid rather than support where all she does is poke at a safe distance through minions

Riot disagree. What can you do :/

With how mid lane is right now I personally don’t think she will survive as well as her current supp role. From what I can see Zyra seems to have a very low amount of self peel in early lvls, which makes her an easy target for assassins and/or junglers that want to snowball as early as possible.

FYI- She was a mid lane mage first when she was created. Then Riot pushed her to support. She would still have that role if Riot would effectively balance her for it but they don't want too.

Shh I totally knew and remembered that she was first a mid laner [sg-lulu]

I still feel like she would be better as a support because the current Zyra is very squishy in the early game and has next to no peel for herself without blowing flash pre-6. To me, Zyra as a midlane pick would make her a very big target for lots of assassins and midlaners (talon being the first midlaner that came to mind) because of how fragile she is now.

Well maybe if she was balanced correctly, she wouldn't be as squishy. Then mid lane would be safer. Even then, back in seasons five and six, I laned against assassins pretty well with her. Zed, Yasuo were the top ones I remember beating.

But now with all the extra damage and this snowball shitfest of a meta, I wouldn't take her unless I wanted to fool around in normals or if it was a very easy matchup.

Zyra surely is not a "true peeling support". You either play her in a "wrong" way or did not understand what "peeling" means. Janna, Taric, Lulu and Braum are true peeling supports. Their skills revolves around immediately stoppping and/or mending income damage. All Zyra offers as Support is an "ok" root (do not cancel actions) and a delayed knock up, aside from her damage (her main purpose as a Champion). Zyra isn't effective protecting, she is effective causing damage.

Yeah she isn’t exactly a true peeling supp with her entire kit revolving around protecting and peeling for the team, but I don’t think her CC shouldn’t be factored out. I value her CC pretty strongly considering how many times I, as an ADC, have gotten kills from it or at the same time have been killed by it. It’s not exactly overpowered but it also shouldn’t be overlooked when viewing the power of a champion.

Just to be clear I agree with you and looking back at my original comment I was wrong about some (or a bunch) of the parts in it.

Because instead of making fun to play supports, Riot has to allow assholes who prefer to be damage when their team already has damage covered so that people will actually queue as support.

If Zyra, Brand, Lux, etc. weren't allowed to support, that's half of the support players gone right there.

IS SHE ALLOWED TO BE ANYWHERE ELSE? THATS NEWS TO ME. Last time Zyra was played in pro as a mid laner must have been season 4 in EU when a naughty boy picked it agains Alex.

As a zyra main this is so offensive literally if you can dodge root or play a hook champion lane phase Is so hard on zyra you can barely run even when you see the gank coming on ward's she soooooo slow

They need to lower her base damage and greatly increase her AP ratios. Problem solved.
