How is vlad balanced?

Dewott610··37 votes·14,885 views

He's in such a strong spot right now it seems, and even with grevious wounds he still heals back alot while dealing a shit ton. Not to mention his untargetable "get out of jail free card" even moreso with phase rush. So if he is balanced, please tell me why he is

Vlad is less op mid lane and way more op top lane, simply because him and other top laners (Cass or Kennen come to mind) can easily invalidate melee match ups with their range and move speed or cc.

I might get downvoted for this, but Vlad DOES have a weak early game, BUT it's only way more noticeable when he's mid, since he'll have to use W more and E will be his only way to keep dmg high enough for all ins. Plus, you can actually punish him if he tries to do a non-empowered Q. At level 3, he'll have maybe 700hp? Maybe a bit more.

W+E does 28% max together, so that's maybe about 200 HP he's losing, on his own accord. If you look at his mid lane stats, he's actually a fairly balanced match-up, even in high elo, and his ban rate comes from top lane abuse.

Honestly, I think the problem is less Vlad and more strong ranged top laners in top lane. It would be really nice if Riot buffed items like Dorans shield or item 3211 for melee champs like getting more HP back, or gave tanks and bruisers more ability or opportunities to get on ranged champs, so they're less oppressive in general, like adding a sort of Bork or Gunblade active on some tank/bruiser items that apply a small slow for a few sec, or something like that.

Afk on Lane1 votes

I think that on top lane he get rekt hard early game lol, just take bruiser with dash, lane bully or an assassin freeze lane, and just wait until his jungler will break your freeze, if he won't he is fucked, I always win against him on top, its so easy, just jump on him all the time early game whenever he want to farm. On the other hand i have problems with him on mid when i am playing mage, because i basically do 0 dmg early game, so he can scale easier except if he is playing against assassin, kinda similar problem if i am playing against kassadin as a mage, I just don't deal dmg at all and will loose every trade. Even look that he has lower Wr on top that on mid.

If someone forces trades on vlad consistently and doesnt let him succ them with the big red Q, they'll bully him pretty hard. The problem is a problem a lot of champs have: you put yourself at a much greater risk doing so than he does avoiding it.

That sounds good on paper, but nowdays he brings CDR on runes + Cosmic Insight and his first purchases are components of Zhonya's and Protobelt's that have CDR (item 3108 + item 3067 ) and gets easy acess to at least 25% CDR + 10% from scaling runes + 10% from Transcendence at lv10. He invalidades his early game problems by doing so while buying Doran's shield against hard matchups so that he can stay back and only focus on farming and the enemy can't really punish him unless he makes a lot of mistakes. Overall, he's still a problem in mid lane too, it isn't only a top lane factor. He has got a pretty safe lane considering the monster he becomes mid and late game.

One thing to remember though is, you're not actually pointing out his weakness, which is all ins. You're talking about consistently poking him, which is what you'd do against a Garen. I mean, sure, poking does work, but as you yourself pointed out, Vlads will have to be really stupid to let that happen, and it's impractical since it's not his weakness.

However, Vlad dmg is horrible early. Using a W more than once early or spamming E is never worth and either forces back, or puts huge kill pressure on the Vla player.

Riven beats Vlad, because she can all in him easily. Fizz (when mid) beats Vlad, because he can all in easily. Irelia (sometimes if plays smart and starts corrupting potion) beats Vlad, because she can all in easily.

All of Vlads counters in his lanes, just need high all in dmg and some form of mobility so they can reach him ( or any ranged match up really), then you notice that his cdr means nothing in all ins, until he hits that sweet 3 sec Q and E.

His early game is piss poor and abusable.

Side note, if you ever want to find out why a champion has anything, play them, your perspective changes real quick.

His early game is actually pretty strong, it's late that he will be struggling in, once everyone has an item to counter his healing and enough damage to burst him.

I've never had a problem with vlad late as long as we had someone to apply grevious wounds to him, unless he was seriously overfed, but that's with every champ.

No it isn't, his CDs are insanely long early on with his W alone being nearly 30 seconds, also the heal on his Q is meph at best unless he is using third Q. Vlad is a late game scaling champion with piss poor early game.

Well Cause2 votes

How about the fact that he can heal back everything easily?

If you sit back and let him Q on minions, yeah he can, you can engage on him though, and there is literally a bar above his head telling you when his main ability of his Q is up and when to back up.

Yes a champion that is frequently firstpicked has a piss poor early game. Seems legit.

uhhh...Kayle gets picked and her early game is utter trash too?

A champion that can be unkillable and oneshot entire enemy team without much effort

Of course he's balanced

Just buy grievous wounds 4Head

Sir Saltarin3 votes

Just buy grievous wounds, he will delete your backline through his Pool and Zhonyas anyway but he will heal less, sounds good.

"Just build armor" "Just cc him" "Just dont hit Play" "Just dont install leage" "just play somethign less retar...............OPS almost went there again" "just play something better, like Anthem"

Saevum6 votes

Unpopular opinion.

The strenght of Vlad is being pushed up by 2 items. item 3157 item 3152 he is resourceless, these two also have CDR.

Sir Saltarin2 votes

You are right, and add Phase Rush to that.

Runes and items solve the weaknesses that he used to have.

So, anyway he still should get a nerf.

Madsin256 votes

He is one of those champs that has his own playstyle and you need to master it to do good with him.

You cannot just pick up vlad and proceed to collect freelo, it does not work like that.

Sir Saltarin2 votes

We are not sayint that he's easy, we are saying that he's too strong

Similar to Azir, hell he's one of the hardest champs in the game and has needed uncountable nerfs

xDogMeatx4 votes

play a rusher type champ that forces attacks on vlad like jax's Q or irelia Q or E stun.

AHarmlessTaco4 votes

No hard CC. No major mobility. Single target damage and split capabilities are fairly subpar. His safety net skill costs him a significant amount of health and can be followed with relative ease.

Not saying he's not obnoxious sometimes, but if he wasn't there would be no reason to pick him because he wouldn't offer anything to the team.

lil koda3 votes

my issue with vlad has always been, on top of all the AOE burst damage and sustain he has, he also gets to walk around with 4k hp late game due to his passive, the champ is FAR to safe for how much shit he does.

Nhika3 votes

Plays Vlad. Gets ignited Pools -Lose more hp. DIES

Never play vlad again LOL

OneMustFall3 votes

It's great to come into a topic and discover that only the downvoted comments are the one's worth reading. Everything else is just circle jerk spam with no actual insight or facts to back up their ignorant claims.

Perma CC3 votes

Easy answer. He isnt balanced. But Riot doesn't know what to do about him.

Prince Vladlmlr1 votes

True

4th3t0s1 votes

Hence the nostalgia for Morello's policy for these things.

Feel Apathy2 votes

There are champions like Veigar that will kill him once he dips below 80% health.

He isn't balanced, but counterpicks are available.

DontLewdOrianna2 votes

He's not, there's literally 0 counterplay to a Vlad lategame

Mordepool2 votes

He is a Low range mage. He has counter play. He has a windowed single target heal that is powerful off of champions. When his bar turns Red Back off. He is strong not unbeatable.

Vs a Vlad requires you alter your build ( which in a lot of cases = your not going to snowball) so don't pick a snowball reliant champ.

Neptunia xoxo2 votes

Vlad has never been balanced and never will be. Even Riot posted in the past that he was a giant mistake and they regret ever making him and hes on a list right now for being reworked entirely.

Sucction2 votes

Depends. In top lane, he's probably too strong due to Phase Rush and the cdr rune letting him come on too early, and rushing deathcap so quickly isn't really fair. It's only enabled by the runes, though.

Vladimir mid is probably pretty balanced considering how scuttle meta is and that he can never gain priority until like 12 minutes and protobelt.

He's on the strong side due to the rune, but I wouldn't call him vastly overpowered or broken, more just obscenely annoying.

He's not anywhere near Vayne, Riven, Kai'Sa, Jinx etc

Kadexe1 votes

Nowadays people build him as a full AP burst mage, so grievous wounds actually aren't that effective against him. It's better to buy magic resist so that he can't oneshot you.

ReySolomon1 votes

A lot of different opinions about Vladimir but all I am going to say is..

Who's ever balanced around in this game?

Dope Solo1 votes

He isn't balanced. He's not over the arbitrary line riot has drawn which says a 54.5% win rate isn't overpowered, which is bullshit.

Anu3isII1 votes

In the Early Game he is a squishy immobile short-ranged champion that is vulnerable to both ganks and champions with decent damage plus engages.

The problem though is that he scales really hard, to a point where he can destroy squishies by point-and-clicking them while being decently durable and hard to peel (because of item 3907 item 3152 and occasional item 2065 ). The fact that people pick him into safe match-ups makes him a ton more oppressive, since the opposing laner would definitely need jungler assistance to at least be able to interact with Vladimir.

If he didn't nuke people Late Game, I would consider him ok...

Suleymanneke1 votes

he isnt, but riot is making good money thx to hes skins so dont expect a nerf.

Vladimir's true opness is that you have to rush these items item 3155 item 3091 item 3123 item 3165 while you can't build something else, while also he builds this item 3065 denying your grevious wounds and than just goes ap thx to lategame he get's back while rest of the team is ad and this was just a waste of counterbuilding champion that in certain state of game ignores counterbuild...

That's what I did in ARAM, bought Spirit Visage from 20% to full hp lol.

Idk Vlad is easy to play for me, legitimately one shotted adc with full build just with R and empowered Q.

I find it hilarious that I'm low enough elo to pretty much never see a vlad. I see people play (bad) Kai'sa, irelia, jax, etc. all the time, but no vlads at all.
