Why are people asking for Lux buffs?

Chris Chiaki··67 votes·4,212 views

Her Q+R combo does 1014 (+180% AP) lategame with a Ludens proc and it's only on a 30 second CD.

She provides peel with her E and a shield to buff her 5k Cinderhulk tanks twice.

She's in a very good spot with assassins being weak and buffs could probably push her into OP FOTM status where she'd get gutted pretty soon.

It's basically the same 2 Lux "mains" who don't know how to play her correctly asking for buffs. Even with the mastery changes she still wins half+ of her games as a mid laner, and it's like this in every meta. She's really only bad in the support role unless you actually main it, but she's not balanced for that position anyways.

Ancestor0077 votes

Its not about damage buffs. Her Luncent Singularity costs 130 mana, which is way more than a Ziggs Q, Orianna W, Xerath Q and so on. Plus these deal more damage/have more utility/ both. She is literally oom in 1 QER combo in the early game. I find an Athene;s not being enogh for mana regen very often.

Double Rainbow8 votes

It's 130 mana on max lvl. You should have Morello/Athene until then easily. I play her a lot recently, and honestly, her mana problems aren't so bad as everyone says. Yes, she has problems with hard pushing champions, but otherwise, I'd say she's fine.

How about stop looking at 1 ability? Ziggs doesn't clear entire waves with 1 Q, Xerath isn't clearing waves with 1 Q etc. Xerath's combo, before using his passive, costs more mana than Lux's. If you bothered to look at mana costs, you'll see Lux isn't the only mage with an ability that costs 120~130 mana at max rank.

People just want to spam her nearly impossible to miss E without ever having to use her passive to kill her opponent.

Ancestor0071 votes

Fun fact: her E cant be detonated instantly once it reaches the destination, you have to wait a little bit for it. Also, its not the most damaging ability in the game.

killd0zer1 votes

It's a sizable AoE, and it's pretty easy to poke with it. The only thing that keeps it from being obnoxious harass is the mana cost.

I Main Swain1 votes

if they took away her mana problems, she would have no weakness aside from her lack of mobility and squishiness, which she can deal with by just staying at a long range and utilizing her shield. just like she can work around her mana problems by not spamming and building mana items.

Silents4297 votes

I get downvoted everytime I tell people I don't have mana problems on Lux.

WhiteFireOCN2 votes

That's because the only people that really complain about her mana problems are the people that CS every creep with an ability.

Shiela Hammond28 votes

Any champion that can consistently build and effectively utilise Soulstealer and not be punished for it is a champ that does not warrant being buffed.

lDontLiftIcarry12 votes

because the people that play her are shitters who cant manage mana or auto attack with a fucking ranged champion to cs properly. thats why.

But you're right her QR is retarded and always has been Infact I'm not sure why she isn't played. Probably because you have to actually land skillshots that cost mana. Unlikle 90% of the mid laners now that have low costs or no costs.

people bitching about mana iusses on ahri with her 1 button clear a wave or syndra or all these other broken mid laners that have 1 skill that clears a wave that costs almost no mana and has other stats attached to it. (syndra Q better at level 9...ahri Q heals...)

And then they go and play lux and realize thats what mana costs should be on a champion that clears waves. 120+ at max rank every wave clear spell no exceptions.

Means you cant spam your mana pool all day and never leave lane or auto attack correctly between spells.

Yes, this is it exactly. Get juked twice in lane and you no longer have enough mana to get the enemy low enough to be in danger. Her Q is quite slow, almost as bad as Morg's.

Plus, even if she does manage to land some spells, to get the full damage, she has to get into AA range; her AA range is not exactly a safe distance.

Stupafly1 votes

i agree with most of what you said. but just for the record, Ahri's q does not heal.

Xenohaz1 votes

Not by itself, but it does heal (very well) with her passive.

lDontLiftIcarry2 votes

yes it does. What do you think her passive is? infinite sustain. thats what it is.

Stupafly1 votes

yes that is what her PASSIVE is. You said ahri's q heals, and it isnt her q its her passive.

lDontLiftIcarry1 votes

I was stating that her Q /one spell is exstremely overloaded.

Point made. True damage. Aoe. Movement speed. Able to be angeled with flash/ult. Fast traveling. Low CD. High base, high scaling.

If you didnt notice this is a common theme on alot of new mid laners. They overload one ability on a champion exstremely hard. Or if its not 1 ability they spread it out with percentage damage on 1 and then the rest of the kit is just amix match of gap closer/aoe/skill shot/hard CC thats not effected by tenacity.

ChaoticPinecone3 votes

but isnt that a problem?

I like Lux. i find her to be one of the best balanced champions. but when every other midlaner can spam their waveclear without autoattacking waves, i feel that Lux should too.

Id rather have Lux be the standard and have all mages nerfed, but thats not happening.

Partholonian1 votes

Mages have been nerfed multiple times this season, actually. It's part of Lux's problem that she's already at the low end of a class that then gets classwide nerfs.

And then people notice that there are several really strong mids with no resource problems Katarina Yasuo Zed and say "maybe I'll just play one of those instead".

Erockandroll7 votes

She's a siege mage, all of her complaints surround her mana costs.

I don't really feel like riot will do anything about mana costs on Siege mages as they don't want them to be Mindless Waveclear. (which they will become anyway) But as it stands, Luden's helps the siege mage spike in the mid game, which compensates for the loss of endless waveclear. (which was part of the reason why Ziggs started to make a resurgence in the LCS)

SwiftKitten885 votes

i dont think she needs a buff damage wise but her "E" mana cost can certainly be lowered

Ancestor0072 votes

Why the downvotes. When someone suggests buffs for other champions, they get upvoted to oblivion.

JustMyBassCannon5 votes

Because her mana sustain is garbage since the mana regen nerfs.

Her kit is fine and strong, but all of her spells cost a ton of mana, and she doesn't have the best innate mana/regen.

Ancestor0072 votes

And now with the mastery changes, it is even harder for her to survive lane.

LankPants4 votes

Because having high damage means less than nothing when every viable champ in the game has a short CD dash that they can use to either dodge her bind or just jump on top of her.

Only Play Darius1 votes

Ever played against a Lux that actually has a team peel for her?

If she is lucky enough to get decent teammates, a lux is a free win if they can get to late game.

Critmaster Garen4 votes

ludens is not a great item for lux.

is hard to control the proc with the aoe abilities. and it doesnt grant any mana/mana regen which lux needs. and her base cooldowns and mobility are not that great to make full use of it.

ludens is better on spamable abilities with relatively low base damage and scaling, since it adds a 100 to 200 damage flat on these abilities.

akalis r would be a good example. together with lichbane it creates a ton of burst. you also need a bit of mobility to charge it quickly.

lux really fulfills neither of these conditions.

now how does your calculation look if you buy regular items on her?

im not saying shes in a bad spot, but please stop glorifying ludens on her.

You seem to be forgetting the metric shittons of AP that it provides with a Death Cap.

the only reason why someone might get it is, for a midgame power spike with a deathcap, maybe yes. but still. if you have deathcap and ludens you dont have much else. and youre gonna run out of mana after a handful of spells. could be a good idea if youre snowballing, but otherwise... meh.

Daedalus8717 votes

So what if it's a 3rd or 4th item?

A shit ton of AP is a shit ton of AP.

Because you can literally pick Orianna over Lux at any time because Orianna does everything Lux does. Orianna's full combo, while doing less burst damage than Lux, brings hard CC, vaccums the whole enemy, allowing for an automatic w slow to be landed as well as easy set up for wombo combo. Orianna, over the course of the fight due to her low cooldowns and zone control, will eventually out damage Lux after the first 8-10 seconds in the fight. The only reason to pick lux over Orianna is Lux has a better and strong shield. I'd like to see the cast time shaved off on that shield, make it more reliable and easier to cast while engaging/disengaging. This buff would help separate Orianna from Lux

Lux also has much more range than Orianna, a hard cc thay isn't on her ult which is also long range making catches very easy. Orianna and lux fulfill different roles as well, Orianna is a good poke make from 800 ish range while lux can do it from 1200 +. Orianna has better wombos in teamfights than Lux but lux does easily outranges Orianna in about the same time frame.

I don't main Lux but I do play her alot. If her E mana cost was lowered, I would be happy, but she doesn't need any buffs atm.

Vier3 votes

Why does everyone say she has a 30 second ult? If she has 40% cdr then yes but that is at max rank and not every game the Lux has 40% cdr.

The Whamboozler1 votes

Every Lux player had BETTER be shooting for 40% CDR by mid-late game.

Krys Star3 votes

Lux is in a fine spot, no argument there. But admittedly, the mana cost on Lucent Singularity is a bit extreme. I'd much prefer 110 at max rank over 130, since it usually takes two to clear a wave early on and that just guts her mana, leaving her unable to roam or fight back. It's not a NEEDED buff, but it'd be a nice buff without pushing her over the top. Otherwise she's fine as is.

ShadowParker3 votes

The buffs we're asking for aren't even huge buffs. We literally just want to see these 2 things: -Lower Mana cost on e max level -Sight of targets that are affected with her passive

We're not asking for more damage, or more mobility. Or hell, even lower cooldowns, we literally just want these small buffs.

And she's not in that great of a spot, the mobility creep is hard on her seeing as she is all skillshots w/ no mobility. She's not bad, but she's not "very good" either.

Partholonian2 votes

Assassins are only weak against tanks, they still destroy squishy mages like Lux. She was barely played BEFORE all mana users got nerfed into the ground at the start of the season. Partly because her mana costs were even more crippling than most. And now they're nerfing mana AGAIN, for everyone who uses it. While Zed Yasuo Katarina sit in the river and spam /laugh.

KING OF MASKS2 votes

Don't you mean "provides peel with her Q," OP? I mean E does have the slow but I think the harder peel would come from her root.

Lewpaka2 votes

I play Lux enough. I think she's fine. Everyone whos moaning about her mana costs just need to learn to spam less and make her shots count. She's strong if you can make your skillshots count (and proc passive with aas) and position yourself well. She can dissuade divers with her q, she can poke long range aaand get vision with e, she can add thousands of hp to a team with some good w's, and she got da lazr face. I think people are complaining because shes less "reliable" because all of her stuff can potentially miss, and can be harder to manage due to the range and need to continuously kite and reposition. But she's fine IMO. learn to play her better. Shes not veig or leblanc, shes not zed or xerath or orianna, shes lux. So learn to take advantage of her strengths as Lux.

Translation: if your enemy can't juke worth shit, even though they probably have at least one dash, then Lux might do OK. Not getting fed and dominating the game or anything, that's for mobile roamers, but OK.

DirkTarTar2 votes

the only buff I feel she needs is some love on her early game mana costs

The Soulforged2 votes

It's really just her mana costs.

Assassins aren't weak, and they still delete her if they get to her (lol e slow in the League of Mobility). ~Uiru

Froggy Poo1 votes

That is a nice bit of damage on a short cooldown, but plenty of other champions do just as much damage/more but with mobility as well. She's got her clear strengths and weaknesses; she's good in some instances and bad in others. I don't think she's in urgent need of buffs but a lower mana cost on her E wouldn't hurt anything.

Sammystorm1 votes

Not many champions can pump out that much that quick;y.

People are complaining about her mana costs. 130 for her e is a bit ridiculous when you look at Xerath that has built in mana regen, with easier to hit skill shots, apart from her ult.

Xerath loses a lot of combat prowess because his passive doesn't give him any sort of benefit in a straight up fight, unless he's close to OOM.

Lux trades sheer spell spam for having a passive that makes her more effective in actual trades. It's good design.

AMYS GRAVE1 votes

Her Q+R combo does 1014 (+180% AP) lategame with a Ludens proc and it's only on a 30 second CD.

so you have to go back every 30 seconds because you are oom then. that's really her only problem. heck you could even lower the AP scalings a bit in order to accommodate the mana cost reduction you're giving her and it would be fine.

Cerulean Laser1 votes

CD changes to compensate the MP cost, it isn't that difficult. 130 at Max with a full build is nothing unless you're spamming E off of CD for some reason. I've only been playing since S2 and one of my biggest issues with her is the way the MP cost scaled on her E relative to the size of her mana pool. Fiora can do alot under 2sec with Hydra lol.....
